(bag needs to be big enough for a breast pump- this would be a fashion item so looking at under £50, Zara/mango price range.)

I want to dress the dress down rather than up. Was keen to wear it with trainers but the champagne colour of the dress looks off with my existing dad trainers or white gazelles. I think that look would be better with a black or bold coloured dress and doesn’t work here.

any ideas?

i’m 29 if that’s in any way relevant

Leather jacket and Converse. Lovely. But I’d worry about pale satin and leakage.

It’s fine with a bra and some pads in, so don’t worry about that. I would haven’t selected it if it didn’t work for me…

I think your hunch about black boots / shoes is correct - too much of a contrast.

The straps on the dress are very thin so will you wear a strapless bra - or will a bright standard bra with contrasting coloured straps.

What about a trainer in a different colour such as blush pink or baby blue? New Look had a cream trainer style shoe with blush pink trimmings on it that I think would work

I'm not sure I'd put a belt with it personally, I think it would spoil the shape.

I love the fluffy cardigan/jumper idea with some chunky DM sandals.

I wish I could wear it!

declutteringmymind · 10/04/2023 10:10

Maybe a buttery soft biker jacket and any flats. With an anklet.

ProstituteHair · 10/04/2023 10:28

It's a nice slip dress. Certainly not a nightie.

I wouldn't be listening to your 'hens' telling me what to wear though.

Bollox to that.

I honestly don’t think there is a ‘nightie vibe’ that needs to be lessened. It’s a satin slip dress. I have two in my wardrobe and saw at
least four out last night in varying hues. I’m just really struggling to style the cream shade of it. My old faithful clompy boots look jarringly black and just…odd

But I do like the idea of a chain belt anyway, and a top handle bag would be a nice addition to my accessories as I don’t have one! Thank you 😊

Sorry for inadvertently adding to the nightie comments! I was more referring to the colour, which as you say makes it trickier to style than, say, a black slip dress (I have one!)

What about a cropped boxy cardigan, maybe cream/white/grey (whatever suits you best), unless you don’t want too much of a bridal vibe, in which case a bright colour?

nope, it’s definitely a dress

Unfortunately once one starts, they’re all at, parroting one another and thinking they are being hilarious and original. If you can wear that dress well, you are very lucky. I’m not sure how best to style it but I’d stay away from the hackneyed biker/denim jacket/clunky boots that so many on here seem to default to. Like wannabe early 2000s Helena Bonham Carters.

Disclaimer: soooo completely out of touch with anything remotely 'trendy' or stylish, so please disregard if this is a total style faux par!

What's the world of cardigans like at the moment? I feel that maybe instead of a chunky jumper could a cardigan be a good idea/stylish? Partly thinking of the 'going back and forth to car" etc comments, where it may be easier to whip a cardi on and off, and also not mess up your hair - but I have a lot of hair and can imagine by the end of the night it'll look like I've had a dozen balloons rubbed on my head if I were to take it on and off. Also would have the benefit of still getting a glimpse of more of the dress than a jumper would. Rather surprisingly - to me! - I actually really quite like the wedge sandals from Pull & Bear that pp posted. I initially thought some type of gladiator sandal in similar colour to those would go really well, and then saw those posted.

Apologies, entirely forgot the * changed to bold. Still, at least my warning of potential lack of anything stylish won't be missed! 😂

Yes I like the idea of a chunky / cropped cardi maybe in a grey mohair as a texture contrast and lighter than a jacket

DontCallOnMe · 10/04/2023 11:16

Goodness the bitches are on a roll. Shitty family Easter lunches maybe?

OP you’re 29 and I’m guessing some of the nightie comments are from people who would send you links to tweed skirt suits as the perfect hen outfit.

the chunky boots and biker or denim jacket work well but so does the more neutral jumper and trainers. If you can take the dress on your shopping trip and try it out.

ArseMenagerie · 10/04/2023 11:47

What about some platform converse and a fringed jacket?
I’m currently obsessed with a suede one in jigsaw (it’s £400 😳) but I think the look of a slightly longline jacket would work well.

ignore the nightie chat - same energy as my mates husband who always comments on anyone wearing Co-ords that they are ‘off up to bed’. Aye mate and your fecking Next trousers and Hackett rugby shirt is straight off the Parisian catwalks.
