Those M and S sidestripe trousers

Are they now ok to wear everywhere? Just saw Deborah Meaden wearing them on Dragon's Den with a blazer, and then one of the women seeking investment was also wearing them.

I have one pair of these and love them, but not sure if I would wear them in such formal settings. Thinking about buying another because they are the last word in comfort for women of a certain age.

I'm being increasingly convinced that mumsnet have shares in M and S and are paying someone to say how wonderful m and s clothes are. Let's see how many lemmings jump and buy them now. Kerching!

Notice M&S have forged brand connections with lot of middle aged instagram fashion influencer's. And the striped trousers were on all there posts.

Good on M&S for updating their marketing, I'd hate to lose the brand from the high street

Although lots of older, not amazingly stylish women, have started wearing side striped trousers to work, so mine from last year and staying in the wardrobe.

PegasusReturns · 08/04/2023 11:43

I think they’re too casual for work unless you have a particularly casual dress code, not because of the stripe but because of the elasticated waist- it’s difficult to wear them with anything other than a sweat shirt.

ImSoShiney · 08/04/2023 12:14

I think they're awful. I'd maybe wear them as pyjamas if I was given them as a present but I certainly wouldn't wear them outside

America12 · 08/04/2023 12:22

I've got the navy and white I love them , get compliments a lot.

I am definitely middle aged but not any kind of influencer. I have posts on all kinds of things.

I knew somebody would say this though!

The photos all show people not wearing a sweatshirt so it can't be that difficult!

@JaneFondue sorry wasn't suggesting your post was disingenuous, just replying to a earlier poster that I think M&S have modernised their marketing and are using influencer's to spread their brand.

I know this as I am also middle aged Smile and follow a few of them and they have all styled the trousers and some other M&S items really nicely.

ShagratandGorbag4ever · 08/04/2023 12:52

I think they look like exercise wear rather than workwear, but then I hate stripes and would not have them on anything including gym kit.

I'm getting a mental image of a 1970s PE teacher.

Real 70s tracksuit vibes.

Exactly

They're jogging bottoms redefined as formal wear. The middle-class version of pyjamas on the school run. You've been played by M&S.

Fine for wearing around the house, or even to go to the corner shop, but wearing them to work shows you CBA to acknowledge that you're in a professional environment

Agreed

GretaGood · 08/04/2023 13:23

The contestants troos were such a different black from the lineny jacket - Shiny polyester black - why!

LivingDeadGirlUK · 08/04/2023 13:35

I'd love some of these woth a flat waistband on the front!

Nearlyadoctor · 08/04/2023 14:20

@LivingDeadGirlUK - The White company do a pair with a flat waistband and they’re not quite so wide which works better for me at 5’4.

MissingMoominMamma · 08/04/2023 14:26

They look like joggers…

Agreed

Also agree. I bought a green pair online a few months ago. They went straight back. So unflattering, and I thought I'd be tall enough to rock them but they were awful.

UserHope · 08/04/2023 14:28

I saw the lady wearing them at Dragons den, and thought it wasn't a good look. I definitely don't think workwear appropriate if dress code isn't casual.

Because god forbid older women dare wear something that you want to wear!

I wear mine for work with a fairly fitted jumper and heeled boots. I may be older and not so stylish, but I find them comfortable and absolutely fine for my work place.

That's told us. I mean we've all "been played" by fashion every time we buy a new item if you ask me.

Honestly S&B never used to be so sneering

WelshNerd · 08/04/2023 18:17

I bought them last week so they are officially "uncool". I got the white ones with the zip which give off real sporty spice vibes.
