Stylish comfortable sandals for city break in heat?

Justkoko · 26/03/2023 14:12

Off to Rome in the summer and I'd like to pack as light as possible. I'm aware I'm going to find the heat a challenge so am thinking of taking several simple linen dresses.

I have tevas, Salt waters, and random various sandals. The saltwater are thin soled and while I find them comfy, I'm not sure about 3 or 4 days always on the go? The tevas are comfy but not terribly smart.

Is there a best of both worlds?

I’ve had two pairs of these. Was a bit unsure about the toe post when I bought the first, but OMG they are so comfortable- I can do 4 days city break pavement pounding in them with no problem at all. And they look like something you’d actually choose to wear!

Timberland Malibu Wave. Best sandal ever! They're even fine doing in the sea

These are like walking on clouds and very stylish

Yes I had these and wore them til they fell apart. Excellent for lots of city walking.

Another one saying Air & Grace sandals. These would match anything and go well will linen trousers or dresses.

Gorgeous but pricey - have you tried them? Are they comfortable?

I have feet that easily get rubbed & blistered, especially in the heat. The knitted type Sketchers are the best shoes hands down. I’ve worn them in the Florida heat, spending all day in the parks and my feet remained fine. They are very breathable even with socks on.

We are off to Rome this summer too and won’t even consider any sort of sandal other than maybe wearing in the evenings.

OP I would look for something with chunky sole, so no no for Salt Water. Birkenstocks feel bit stiff and hard for me. If you have feet like me, you're going to suffer. I like the ones above me that @midsomermurderess pasted. Something in this style. Great with dresses and trousers.

I wear Birkenstocks (Mayaris) for the cobbled streets and all the walking. It's going to be super hot I'd go for comfort every time.

Yes, my Mayaris got me round Rome in comfort (in 40+ degrees).

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 31/03/2023 18:20

Birkenstocks

You need the support on the uneven ground and for the distances.

I did 37,000 steps one day in Rome last time I went. In Birkenstock Madrids, over various similar trips (hot, lots of walking, cobbles) my Birkenstocks have never let me down and I have had Madrid, Gizeh and Mayari.

I can't even wear trainers in Edinburgh past April 🤣 my feet would melt.

Skechers Reggae are my go to, I walk many miles in them. Dirty feet? Enjoy a blissful cool soak and exfoliating scrub back at the hotel. Heaven!

Padstow58 · 31/03/2023 18:38

Vionics

Most comfortable sandals ever. And stylish too.

Hotter tourist sandles

MorrisZapp · 31/03/2023 20:15

Hotter tourist are good.

Magpiecomplex · 31/03/2023 20:21

Thirding Hotter Tourist, they served me very well round Rome, Amsterdam, New York and more. Vionics are not wide enough for me.

thesonicoscillator · 31/03/2023 20:33

I've used Birkenstock soft several times in Rome in August, they have to be the soft version though for me.

NannaKaren · 01/04/2023 18:37

Fitflop Fitflop Fitflop no need to look anywhere else !

Gemcat1 · 01/04/2023 22:09

Skechers and Hotter are both designed to be comfortable and cushion your feet as you walk. Some of the styles are aimed at older people but others are attractive.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 01/04/2023 22:32

Do Not wear Skechers for Rome.

I developed plantar fascitis after a day in Rome in Skechers, they are not supportive enough. Luckily I had my Birkenstocks to fall back on.

Lykia · 01/04/2023 22:51

I'm off to Rome in the May half term break and have just bought these to wear:

Adidas Oxweego they're ridiculously light and are like walking on air. I'll also be taking my trusty Teva's too.

Teva's in black I've worn these around London in August a few years back and they were fine.

Stormydanielss · 01/04/2023 23:10

I've got the softest black sandals from select femme
had to do one wear to break them in and now they are like the softest things and supportive too

Stormydanielss · 01/04/2023 23:12

Sorry selected femme

There's some suggestions here including mine as I'm off there too next month.

Rhubarbina · 03/04/2023 02:01

Meant to add- they look fine with skirts and dresses and not too clunky despite touch sole as the wraparound strap keeps them quite neat and streamlined, but obvs I don’t know your style preference

Justkoko · 05/04/2023 15:42

Have been considering some saltwater sandals with the Soft soles but also taken with some birkenstock mayaris. The colour I liked were birkoflor rather than leather. And not soft footbed. Would I be mad?
