Stylish comfortable sandals for city break in heat?

Justkoko · 26/03/2023 14:12

Off to Rome in the summer and I'd like to pack as light as possible. I'm aware I'm going to find the heat a challenge so am thinking of taking several simple linen dresses.

I have tevas, Salt waters, and random various sandals. The saltwater are thin soled and while I find them comfy, I'm not sure about 3 or 4 days always on the go? The tevas are comfy but not terribly smart.

Is there a best of both worlds?

Saltwater now do a soft sole version that may fit the bill

EmmaGrundyForPM · 26/03/2023 14:16

I can walk for miles in Fit Flops, but I know not everyone can. I have a white leather pair for daytime and a black leather pair for evening, but you could get away with just one pair if you have different evening stuff (I tend to wear black).

I wear Birkenstocks (Mayaris) for the cobbled streets and all the walking. It's going to be super hot I'd go for comfort every time.

Rayna37 · 26/03/2023 14:49

I've had a couple of pairs from Ecco that have been the holy grail of this, but not sure about their current stock.

CinnamonJellyBeans · 26/03/2023 15:15

I can also walk miles in fit flops.

SheisMammyof2 · 26/03/2023 15:20

Birkenstock Mayaris.

professionalnomad · 26/03/2023 16:13

These are like walking on clouds and very stylish

Justkoko · 26/03/2023 20:16

I have some like mayaris but with an ankle strap. I was thinking birks might get a bit tiring with a harder sole. Hmm, I'll have to dig them out and see how they feel.

I would suggest Birkenstocks too and this style is quite pretty. I’ve walked miles all over Rome in Birkenstocks on many occasions.

SirChenjins · 26/03/2023 20:22

Birkenstocks wrecked my feet - far too hard soled for all that walking. You need something really soft - Ecco’s are good or give in and go for trainers like every other tourist.

Might be too hard for your feet. I've never had an issue walking long distances with them. I love them.

poppym12 · 27/03/2023 10:09

I wear Birkenstocks all the time. I used to wear different sandals too but after months of very painful plantar fasciitis, it only resolved when I stuck with Birkenstocks.

I'm looking for some dressier ones now as all mine are Arizona.

Definitely too hard. There are so many softer soled options out there that would suit the OP better if her feet are more like mine.

steelseries · 27/03/2023 10:23

Birkenstocks so a softer sole version. I've walked 15 miles a day in mine with zero problems.

bookish83 · 27/03/2023 10:24

Camper sandals are very comfortable as are birkenstocks to me. Its the thicker sole!

I find saltwaters comfortable but not for city walking days at once.

Otherwise i would just admit defeat and wear trainers Blush

hashisucks · 27/03/2023 10:41

In the past I've had Ugg sandals which have been incredibly comfortable for city breaks (I can't bar Birkenstocks for any length of time). Their current styles are mostly a bit chunky but the Kaitie and Solivan ones come in different styles - I'm thinking of trying the Solivan Gladiators or Slingbacks. It's a fine line between nerdy and cool! And on a city break you want to look at least a bit stylish (well I do!)

lordloveadog · 27/03/2023 10:47

Rome streets quite manky. Feet probably happier in light trainers.

Why so defensive? Everyone is different.

MrsOrange · 27/03/2023 13:18

Recommendation from a previous thread and I love them for comfort
https://airandgracelondon.com/

But they seem strangely short on stock for sandals online.

What’s defensive about that? They’re definitely too hard for my feet, if the OP’s feet are like mine Birkenstocks will be too hard and there are softer soles out there.

Justkoko · 27/03/2023 13:22

I'd wear trainers if it was not going to be so hot.
I just need airy if possible and trying to decide if I need a softer sole. It'll be a lot of walking.
I don't think I've ever had soft sole birkenstocks.
It shouldn't be this tricky to get comfortable and stylish!

I have sketchers sandals and if you're looking for comfort these are similar comfort to their trainers.

I give up.... not everyone has feet like you.

I agree, but it is. If it's a contest though and it's going to be hot and lots of walking, comfort always wins out. I have a pair of Merrell sandals that I've had for 8 years and they're brilliant. So comfortable, arch support, I can walk for miles in them and I can chuck them in the washing machine when they get dirty and smelly. They're not especially stylish, but I have arthritis in my big toe on one foot, so fashionable sandals can leave me unable to walk at all!
