Eyelash serum? Recommendations for what works (and what doesn't)

Just that, really. Have you tried any and what would you recommend, and what would you avoid, please?

Are you all aware that these kinds of products can cause loss of fat around the eyes and lead to a sunken appearance? Because I don't think this side effect is publicised enough.

Definitely please consider this.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 21/03/2023 22:39

I now have reoccurring blepharitis which I'm convincing has been DH own to this (the hormone ingredient works by interrupting/halting the lash growth cycle) so it absolutely worked and I had amazing bambi lashes very quickly but also blocked and irritated my upper eye lid margin.

Stopped using it about 6 weeks ago and my eyes have been irritation free for the first time in months.

Boy I miss those lashes tho ...

Soooo many typos Grin

You'll have to Google it as I don't really understand it, it's something to do with prostaglandins in the products. I just know it's a widely recognised side effect and can be permanent. I was thinking of using these lash thickeners but was totally put off when I read about it.

Thats the problem with saying stuff you don’t understand. Non-prescription UK products don’t contain prostaglandins. Only the US products do.

I came here to say this. There's previous posts regarding this ( not widely publicised ) detrimental side effect

Rebel2 · 22/03/2023 00:18

I use rapidlash, and have done on and off for a good few years
Not had any side effects so for me personally I'm happy to carry on using it
Bering looking at pics before I used it and now and I can't see any difference except for my lashes!

That is why I don’t use them, also the eye colour change. If you have mixed colour eyes, eg green, hazel , eyes with amber flecks, they can turn brown. Blue eyes are not affected .
I don’t want my eyes to become sunken or change colour.

notangelinajolie · 22/03/2023 00:28

I use this as prescription medication and have done for nearly 20 years. The only difference is to the colour of my eyes that were once hazel and are now inky black. Don’t do it.

StrawHatOnTheParcelShelf · 22/03/2023 01:33

I used The Ordinary one for a couple of months. I didn't notice any discernible benefits but no unpleasant side effects either. Actually bought 2 tubes but haven't bothered opening the second.

My lashes are already quite nice but I was hoping it might help growth in a few thin patches in my brows.

I have hazel eyes and they definitely didn't change.

teaandcake22 · 22/03/2023 03:02

I also use Revitalash, it definitely works. I have been using since December and can see a difference. I didn't know about the other things people have mentioned here so will take a look tomorrow. I was sceptical at trying them as it was expensive but it totally works on my eyelashes!

UK Lash works but I have stopped using it after reading about orbital fat loss.

I looked at the ingredients of UK Lash, and it seemed fine to use.

Artemisty · 22/03/2023 07:09

Revitalash absolutely works but also I noticed the skin along my eyelid near my lashes looked darker/ inflamed. Didn't sting or anything, but I don't think it was particularly good for my eyes.
I've actually got half a bottle left.

LoveLabradors · 22/03/2023 07:41

I tried revitalash for just a fortnight and my eyes felt tired and uncomfortable. They suddenly looked older and hollowed very quickly. I read all about peri orbital fat loss and other side effects and stopped immediately. It took ages for my eyes to look better again. I felt cross with myself as my eyelashes are just fine. Sunken hollowed eyes are not worth it for longer lashes. Do think carefully. I was naive about it and I’m usually very careful.

kuime · 22/03/2023 08:45

This is interesting/worrying! I've used eyelash serums in the past and not noticed negative side effects but won't take the risk again.
Is the fat loss likely to be an issue when using these serums on eyebrows? Desperate to help my patchy brows!

The Ordinary one doesn’t contain the prostaglandins that can cause hollowing and colour changes.
Not all splash serums contain them, but the ones that work particularly well on lashes are also the ones with prostaglandins in, as they are very effective at increasing eyelash growth. Not worth risking hollowed out eye sockets though !

Christmasbird · 22/03/2023 09:58

Revitalash works very well

Candlesandflowers · 22/03/2023 10:24

I was also coming on here to recommend UK lash but now googling the sunken eye thing !

teaandcake22 · 22/03/2023 10:38

I have been googling too. I think I may have it?! How would I definitely know? I hadn't heard of any of these warnings until now.

Mercurial123 · 22/03/2023 10:40

For those concerned about UK Lash, what's so concerning? I can't see anything to be worried about unless I'm missing something?

Eyelash serum? Recommendations for what works (and what doesn't)
TopSec · 22/03/2023 10:45

I use PrimeLash via Primecosmetics online (I hope I am allowed to put this on here)
I lost a lot of my hair and volume/length of my eyelashes after catching covid. This brand was designed (apparently) for ladies who have lost their eyelashes / brows through Chemo and other cancer treatments and I find it has made such a difference. My eye lashes are now as good if not longer than they were before. I use their serum and mascara but they do also sell a small selection of other cosmetics.
Hope this helps

It's this, apparently:

Isopropyl Cloprostenate

Taken from the link someobody posted just after your post.

I bought UKLash a few weeks ago and have been using it (not seeing any results or side effects yet) and this is the first I've ever heard of this orbital fat loss issue.

Thinking I might stop using it now.

Premium Eyelash Growth Serum and Eyebrow Enhancer by VieBeauti, Lash boost Serum for Longer, Fuller Thicker Lashes & Brows (3ML) https://amzn.eu/d/44d0E3Q

I use this ans have done for a few years. I’ve not noticed any side effects (apart from the benefit to the lashes). I think the ingredients are mainly amino acids, and no prostaglandins, I don’t think.

chloechloe · 22/03/2023 11:58

I’ve used Revitalash for years without any problems.

Can somebody please explain how this can lead to fat loss around your eyes? It gets applied to the lashes, a few mm away from the eyelid in a minute quantity which is unlikely to transfer to the surrounding skin.

Not trying to cause an argument, just genuinely intrigued!

Laiste · 22/03/2023 12:33

Oh great. So the Revitalash i've been using (to great effect) is dissolving the fat on my eyelids.

So - if i paint the rest of it on my hips ....

😆
