Anyone up for “making changes to feel and look better” thread?
Embelline · 18/03/2023 16:25
Had a rough year last year and it shows on my face! Determined to feel and look better this year so:
I’ve got a dupe of the Stanley cups and I’m drinking two of those a day and trying to cut down on coffee - failing on the latter
started doing my nails again
using a body scrub twice a week and moisturising daily
signed up to skin and me and got a gorgeous cleanser to go with it which I’m using night
got a silicone facial cleansing brush
booked in for Botox consultation for my forehead/11’s
dragged my old designer bags out of the wardrobe. Going to sell a couple and start using the rest - decided I don’t care if they’re in fashion they make me feel more together
ive started taking b12, iron and magnesium supplements and spoke to the GP about my anxiety and have recently upped my dose of meds which is helping hugely
i really need to sort out diet and exercise too but I’m struggling with this at the moment

Yes! Igot Botox almost 72 hours ago and it's the best thing I've ever done for my appearance already. I've also lost the last bit of post-baby weight recently and now want to build some muscle, glutes especially as they are looking rather flat and sad. I've also started on the Sali Hughes skincare regimen and am seeing benefits a week in, looking to add in a retinol in the evening. I want to learn how to style my hair, I'm 33 but somehow have never really learned to do it, and start making a bit more of an effort in general. I've tinted my lashes so maybe not makeup everyday given my skin is looking quite decent, but more often.
I'd like to figure out how to avoid constantly being covered in bruises, especially on my legs, but I think it's the kids treating me like a climbing frame that does it.

I’m in!
I’ve got one single horrible frown line between above my nose / between my eyebrows which I hate.
DD has taken me into town today and I now have CeraVe hydrating hyaluronic acid serum, resurfacing retinol serum and moisturising cream. SPF50 spray for my face too, apparently SPF15 just isn’t good enough (who knew?!)
I’m going to add in Omega3 supplements too, this is supposed to help skin that looks dry. I really need to drastically increase my water intake during the day but I find that really hard!
70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/03/2023 17:43
My hair was fighting its way off my head at the end of last year as a result of illness and menopause . I;ve perservered with Elasticiser , a few inches off to remove some length that was pulling my scakp and some The Hair Dctor capsuals .
I've bought some The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion. (not tried it yet)
Debating having eyebrow tattoos but keep changing my mine ( my 20yo DD tells me this is your FACE , if it's shit , it's on there for ever and she's right ) might have to re think to microblading or something that will fade .
I want more piercings (ear /cartilidge )
Sunsetandsmiles · 18/03/2023 18:28
Me please🙋🏼♀️
Currently attempting (and failing) to get over a break up. Have good moments and then moments of ‘can’t be bothered even brushing my hair!’. It’s time to get ‘me’ back!
I’ve been getting my nails and eyebrows done more frequently.
I’ve just washed my hair and I’m about to put some fake tan on and paint my toe nails. All small things at the minute.
Also, need to work on the diet and exercise but that will come once I pass the feeling sorry for myself stage🙈
mrsfennel · 18/03/2023 18:32
@Embelline What's stanley cups? B12 and magnesium sounds good, I keep meaning to start that myself.
Im going to go back to using Minoxidil again, had such good results before annoyed at myself I didn't keep it up. Also start using body moisturiser every day as my skin is so dry and flaky its itchy.
QuizzlyBears · 18/03/2023 18:47
Oh yes! I have a Stanley cup and it’s been sat on the counter with the labels on since I got back from the states a fortnight ago. So, first step - at least one a day plus whatever other tea/sparkling water/squash I can drink. Less coffee. I need to improve my hair but need some tips for that! It’s thin and breaks despite everything I’ve tried. Watching with interest!
CouldIHaveThatInEnglishPlease · 18/03/2023 19:09
Intrigued to know what a Stanley cup is. Will Google in a minute. But I’m definitely jumping in on this thread.
so I (re)joined slimming world at the end of last September and, at the start of this month had only lost 7lbs as I just keep loosing and gaining the same 2lbs. So start of March I gave myself a good talking to and told myself to sort my shit out. So I’ve been on that for the last 2.5 weeks, very focused. I find it helps to make all my lunches and dinners for the week on the Sunday, then freeze them and just get a lunch and dinner out each evening for the next day. That has really helped shift some pounds.
also upping the exercise. I’ve joined Clubbercise and am planning on restarting couch to 5k. I’ll start that when the clocks change and the evenings are a little lighter.
this week I have my hair booked in for a balayage as my roots are down to my ears. Also having lash extensions which I’ve never had before. I need to update my make up and am going shopping tomorrow to lakeside so will pick up some bits then.
I’m going to uni in September as a career changer, and I want to go in looking like I’ve got my life together, ready for a new start, so that’s my deadline I’m working towards
ImAvingOops · 18/03/2023 22:09
I've started - I take b complex, d3 and c vitamins plus magnesium.
Have massively cut down on sugar consumption and only drink alcohol at the weekend.
Bought some nice new makeup. Got eyebrows threaded recently.
Still need to lose weight/tone up though.
BadgerCive · 18/03/2023 22:14
I need to do all this. I don't recognise myself any more. If I want to make myself look half decent it takes me about two hours and I'm not exaggerating- that involves washing/ blow drying and styling my hair and then make up. Also my usual make up doesn't work on me at all anymore as if I put powder on it looks awful and I swear it never used to.
I've started supplements. Also on list is:
More water
Botox
Facials
Get nails done
Wax
Haircut
Regular skincare
Get eyebrows micro bladed
Buy some half decent clothes to wear every day
Littlemiss74 · 19/03/2023 06:51
I’m in, 48 and really noticing changes in my appearance now. I need to take up some exercise but am so knackered after work in the evenings it’s a struggle to motivate myself. I really need some new clothes but have no idea where to shop anymore, most of my trusty favourites have closed down now
thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/03/2023 07:16
I’ll join you, I’m on a ten week countdown to my holiday with young skinny people and I really need to lose some weight. Exercise is good, I work out or run every day pretty much but I need to cut out bread and sugar and reduce alcohol to actually see any benefits.
I’m not one for fancy/expensive skincare. I don’t have a skincare routine of any sort so expensive stuff is wasted on me because I won’t use it consistently. However, I’ve bought a new facial wash cloth and I intend to use that every night with a face wash, and then use a retinol serum/oil that I got from TK.
I’ve just had some dental work done and now feel that my teeth might be strong enough for some whitening- so any recommendations of kits or products I would appreciate.
for the first time in my life my hair is behaving itself, it’s really shiny and my frizz is going. A combination of vitamins and the fact it’s now almost entirely grey under the colour and I think that’s changed the texture. Who knows? I have a haircut booked on 31st March..
for me, it’s about a routine of self care. Moisturising my skin and my feet (I’m a runner, my feet are genuinely hideous); drinking 3l water each day, taking my vitamins, getting decent sleep, making an effort to do my make up and hair even though I wfh. Doing yoga a few times a week.
I also need some new tops, some running shorts, and a new lipstick as my current one is just the wrong colour for me and it sucks all the colour out of my face.

Does anyone have suggestions for puffy under eyes I seem to have aged terribly in the last few months
Runforthehills82 · 19/03/2023 09:06
I’d like to join please
I’m going to book for a Botox consultation
I’m going to book a consultation with a cosmetic dentist as I hate my teeth and they seem to be getting more noticeable as I get older
I have booked a haircut
I am in the middle of a wardrobe revamp, I want to start to look more put together, even when casual, and to actually use my nice shoes/boots/bags etc rather than just let them sit in the wardrobe
I am trying to drink lots more water and walk every day.
I am making an effort with my skin care but I do need to get some retinol
I need new bras and pants
Iusedtobedontcall · 19/03/2023 09:17

I have had Botox and feel more refreshed already.
superstar63 · 19/03/2023 10:38

I'm in!
Having had a couple of horrible years, I'm really sad to see the neglected state I've got myself in.
Today I've started a renovation project on myself! I've started with a semi permanent hair dye. I've got medium ash brown hair with quite a bit of grey and after reading a thread ages ago, I've just put a dark blonde dye on it. Natural colour is still the same but those pesky greys are now light brown and look like highlights!
Next up is a foot peel as my feet are shocking.
RuthTopp · 19/03/2023 15:07
I've decided to go for regular cut / colour /half head highlights regularly instead of my quarter yearly hairdresser appointments.
Have been a yoyo dieter all my life , and we are talking several stones . Currently in the wrong end of that so dieting ( keep telling myself ) for the last time.
In the meantime taking more care of my skin , putting on make up and making an effort .
Lastly once at a reasonable weight will get rid of all my clothes in the bigger sizes as it's so easy to slip into next size up if you have them in the wardrobe waiting for you !
Secretboringsister · 19/03/2023 15:49
I’m in. So far: Botox, regular mani pedi, laser eye surgery, did laser hair removal but need to do bikini and to my surprise and delight
cheap as chips eyelash serum from Amazon that has given me amazing length !!
what I need to do:
I had braces on my teeth, they were beautiful, didn’t wear my retainers like a goofball and now need Invisalign or something.
I have zero skincare routine so need to sort that but my biggest dilemma (comments welcome)
I have long thick pure silver white hair. It’s very polarising. Every time I am in public (no joke) I hear one of these 2 comments at least once:
Your hair is absolutely incredible! Can I ask where you get it done and how long does the process take? (Women)
when I tell them it’s natural they usually don’t believe me
or
You dress so trendy/stylish/fashionable, why have you let your hair go? / You’re very pretty, but your hair is ageing you. (Men and women).
I went prematurely pure white at 25, coloured it for years, decided to grow it out in 2018 and of course the lockdown helped. I don’t miss the expense of keeping up the high maintenance Blonde I had with shadow roots but I am so tempted to colour again especially after an “off” comment. Because of my colour (absolutely pure white) the whole salon “situation” isn’t just covering greys it’s a full blown base, highlighting lowlighting etc.
I’m 53.
Minirrriot · 20/03/2023 21:42
I'm up for this, already have made some tweaks over the past year, including losing weight and purchasing a few nice clothes, bags and shoes and have grown my hair (it used to be short and dyed blonde) and dyed it black but am finding I want to make a few more adjustments.
Here's what I plan to do:
Botox in forehead and crows (lines are developing, I'm 43)
Purchase and use tretinoin
Flesh out my nice new basic capsule wardrobe a bit - I have my eye on some nice dresses from Cos and Mint Velvet, plus have seen 2 nice jumpsuits on eBay that I like
Book in for a course of laser hair removal on bikini and legs cos it's a pain doing it myself and summer is coming. I want to not have to bother about hair removal.
Go to hairdressers - haven't been since I started growing my hair, I cut my own fringe and do an okay job but the ends do need a trim.
Buy some new eyeshadows - I prefer creams, liquids and crayons to powders, if anyone has any recommendations I would highly appreciate - prefer neutral natural colours (have a pale olive complexion)
Start a regular exercise regime - I am so lazy and want to tone up, especially after the weight loss. I don't really do any exercise apart from the occasional walk, as I work from home.
Find a lipstick shade I can actually wear that doesn't wash me out but isn't bright or obvious.
Think that's about it for now but I'll probably think of some more..
