Tell me about Botox...

Early 40's and been thinking about Botox for a while, 3 areas. I'm worried it's going to look really false and also about the needle - I'm mard.

Please tell me if you had it, does it hurt and did you like it or regret it.

Hey OP, I have it every 6 months. I'm also a massive wimp when it comes to needles, I have to have a fizzy sugary drink before hand and a bar of chocolate or bag of sweets - otherwise I start to go a bit lightheaded. It doesn't hurt though. A little tip though - if you have it done when you're due on or on your period then it tends to hurt slightly more and also bleeds a little.

It's so worth it, it doesn't look false. I'm quite low maintenance, I don't wear make up or have many beauty treatments done but I couldn't go without Botox now. I also have 3 areas.

Just make sure you get it done by a registered nurse / doctor incase you have any problems.

It doesn't really hurt and it does really work but you MUST go to someone good.

I gave it a go and don't think it was for me. Made my eyes feel heavy and it didn't last long, only 2-3 months. Back to being wrinkly and I think I'll just embrace the ageing.

I have what I think is called "baby Botox". It's two injections above each eyebrow and one in between. I have it because I had migraines that came down my forehead into my eyes and I couldn't cope once they came in my eyes. I was worried it'd look weird but the migraine eye pain was worse than that fear!

It usually doesn't hurt that much to get the injections. The last time one injection really hurt, which was odd. Only lasted a few seconds though.

It looks fine nobody actually noticed at all! I told people because I thought it'd be really obvious and none had noticed! 😂

I did find people smiled at me a lot more and I think that was because I wasn't able to walk around frowning!

As it's not permanent you can always start with one area and see how you like it and then build up at the next appointment. Also worth remembering its not permanent so if you went for it all and didn't like it, it'd have worn off by 6 months, probably before.

I have done it now for about 18 months. No intention to stop but also none to increase the area because I don't mind the wrinkles that much and I'm also wondering if it would look too much.

One thing though, definitely go to someone who is medically qualified. I know there are some good people who are not but I just don't think it's worth the risk. I go to a cosmetic surgeon which costs a little - not much - more than some of the competition.

Thank you for replies. I've gone and booked it for in 2 weeks 😁 so nervous!
It's registered nurse, who I trust and has lots of good reviews. Paid deposit so no going back now 😁

I'm planning on getting Botox soon so this thread is of interest to me. I'm going to get it in forehead and around eyes to start with but probably those are the only areas I need anyway. My practitioner, who I already see for other stuff is really good, so I just need to do it already really.

Does anyone have any tips on how to find someone good? Where do I start looking?!

Report

Your local dentists. All the dentists near me do facial
Clinics and Botox.

Fine needles. It doesn't hurt much at all honestly. Though I'm told those near the eyes for crows feet hurt more.

Look for someone medically qualified but also their gallery and reviews because they also need to have an eye for the finished aesthetic and look. There's an art to it I'd argue.

I now use someone near London who fits both criteria.

Hi OP

I got Botox for the first time last week after wanting to get it done for ages and so far I'm so really pleased with the results. I had 2 areas done - forehead and '11s' between my brows.

I have my follow up appt in a week to check everything is okay and whether I need any top ups etc.

I'm not great with needles at all but found the pain really minimal, the injections above my brows were a little stingy but others were fine and I only had one tiny bruise which was gone in a couple of days.

Hope all goes fine when you get yours done!

I had it done for the first time a couple of weeks ago - I was adamant to the doctor (and I would advise that you always go to a qualified medic rather than a beautician- I’m not entirely sure about dentists either). Was adamant that I wanted to go very very lightly, which the doctor did. It’s a slight sting when the needle goes in but that’s all.

I noticed a slight difference after a week but now the movement has come back entirely and there’s no change at all - I think she went so lightly the dose was a bit low! I will go back for a follow up appointment and she’ll top it up….anyway, I would definitely advise doing it this way - starting very slow at first to see how your face responds, and go from there!

I love it

I go to a registered, highly experienced nurse. I've known her since school!

I go about once every 9 months and have 2 areas, between my brows and at the side of my eyes (crows feet)

Just makes me look less tired and pissed off 😆 but seriously it does make me look fresher.

Report
Schmutter · 19/03/2023 09:27

I have it in my forehead, eyebrows and crow’s feet. About every 9 months. At 51, my forehead is completely line-free. 10 years ago, I had noticeable lines and number 11s.

It doesn’t hurt me in the slightest. I get it done by a dentist.

There is nothing like it for freshening you up.

My advice is go to someone with an extensive medical back ground.

I have it a couple of times a year. The woman I go to was really clear that if she said no, to a treatment, then it was a no. I really like that. She won’t do something she isn’t comfortable with.

I have asked about all sorts of treatments, not just injectables. And she is really honest wether she thinks I will need it or not. I have had a few other non injectables. She could have sold me all sorts in the last few years, but hasn’t.

I still have some movement, so not frozen. I just look better rested rather than younger. We had a long consultation where we went through what I wanted, my expectations etc.

Wow @LapinR0se you look incredible!

I am thinking of having it on a little horizontal line across the top of my nose. Has anyone had it at the corners of their mouth? Noticed my mouth has gone a bit downturned and miserable looking.

The first time I had it I went to my ex GP who had worked in Harley street and omg it was horrendous - just so so much, felt like I had a brick on my forehead . Hated it!

the last couple of times I went to an aesthetician who is so much better - it’s a well established salon, properly trained staff and she gives great advice and doesn’t over do it .

for me it does hurt, but it’s fleeting stinging and it’s over in 5 minutes so we’ll worth it

Did anyone bruise at all? I'm wondering if I should book a couple of days off work

I had it done for the first time three weeks ago. I was so nervous and had cancelled several times because I was so anxious about it. I went to a registered nurse who does it. She did a very light dose for crows feet, 11’s, and brow lift.

It really didn’t hurt just a very small scratchy feeling. It was over very quickly also and virtually no bleeding. You should be fine to go back to work but I was advised no bending over, lifting or exercising for 24 hours. Although it’s not blatantly obvious, it has really freshened up my face. I look less grumpy and it hasn’t got rid of all the lines but 90% have gone.

Go for it as long as it’s someone qualified medically and follow their advise to the book! Good luck!

I've been having Botox for about 15 years. I'm 53. I did take a break once for a couple of years and I really looked much older, so had to go back to it. I go twice a year, and it does last me 6 months. I went to a new lady last week, because my other practitioner retired. For some reason, it was quite painful, whereas it's never really hurt before. I was just about to start my period (yes, still having periods at 53 - grim), so perhaps it was that? Anyway, it worked really well, so I'm happy. Make sure you have Allergan. It's the only proper type of Botox. Some clinics use other products and they just don't work as well, which is a waste of money. Two of my friends went to one of the biggest clinics here and didn't get noticeable results - I suspect it wasn't Allergan.

I've got this at the corners of my mouth as well. My practitioner said Botox won't work, so my only option is filler. Might try this, but bit nervous, as I've never had filler before.

I've had a small bruise before, but they're very small and are easily covered with make up. I was advised not to have any alcohol for a few days before- this helps reduce bruising.
