Tell me about Botox...

Early 40's and been thinking about Botox for a while, 3 areas. I'm worried it's going to look really false and also about the needle - I'm mard.

Please tell me if you had it, does it hurt and did you like it or regret it.

Dentists are by FAR the best people to do your Botox. They know much more than beauticians about what is going on with the muscles in your face.

I don't think that people are questioning the dental qualifications of dentists. But what you don't want is someone doing it as a sideline to their dentistry etc

Ideally you want someone who specialises in this area and does this all day long and has an eye for the finished look, as the beautician might. The place I go to offers surgical procedures in addition, so we have qualified plastic surgeons. I wouldn't go to a dentist for anything other than teeth.

Ah fair point. Agree, you want the technical knowledge plus the experience

Hilarious that people don't think dentists are good for Botox. What do you think dentists spend 4 years studying at university? 1st year is shared with the medical students. Then they specialise in the skull. Teeth yes but also all the facial muscles. They are the highest trained in exactly what is going on under your facial skin.

Filler literally fills the skin with something. Botox paralyses the muscles so they cannot wrinkle.

Every injection will leave a teeny scar. These will add up over time.

Would I trust a nurse or a beautician? Absolutely no way. They may well be good but they just don't have the in-depth knowledge.

Every woman with Botox and filler age 25- do you really think you can stop time? All those injections will have a cumulative effect on your skin. Goodness knows what everyone will look like in 20 years time. I'm just sceptical that there aren't downsides.

Can someone tell me the difference between Botox and fillers? I find it confusing

I'm another who says definitely go to a healthcare practitioner

I've had 2 bad experiences with botox and they were both with dentists. So that kind of put me off them.

I go to a lovely lady now
She's a radiographer and her knowledge of anatomy and aesthetics is great.
I wanted fillers last time I went and she told me I didn't need them..could have made another £300 off me. I like that about her.
She hardly advertises but is booked up way in advance.

I look like me after 2 weeks of rested annual leave 🤣 still some movement.

OP, I'm 53, but started botox at 38, which makes it easier as I've got older, as my wrinkles have never become pronounced. I was petrified the first time, now its like going out for a coffee, even though I'm a wimp with needles. I go every 4 months, and I have forehead, crow feet, frown lines and above my top lip (I don't smoke, but I desperately don't want "those" smoker style lines). I've never looked like I've had borox, if you do it's a bad job. I've always chosen Dentists or qualified medical professionals.

Any one have any recommendations for a Botox practitioner in central London ?

I went to Phi in Harley Street a few weeks ago. They are incredibly professional, best London Clinic awards. Tapan Patel who owns it does the aesthetics on Channels 4s "10 years younger". All the staff there are highly trained.

Ive had it 3 times now and I would 100% recommend. Each time has taken less time to take effect and lasted longer. I get 3 areas, great practitioner, correct prescribing process.

Clearly you are frowning in your first pic so do you have any (resting) bitch face pics to compare the second pic to.

*you aren't a bitch, I just like that phrase haha

You don't need any time off work, it takes less than 30mins and there isn't any down time.

Hope you like it OP. Only thing I would recommend is that if you are going to have your forehead done I would also get your 11's done at the same time. I've always been told the 2 areas need to be done at the same time so the forehead doesn't get too heavy

Totally depends on the areas injected - on the eye lid - horrific pain - rest of face not so bad.

I get it into my jaw to stop me from grinding my teeth. The needle is so small I hardly feel it going in at all. I found the COVID jab very stingy and I'm normally a pain wimp.

Is it worth trying Botox for the first time in your 50s or do you have to have started earlier to see any benefit ?

Yes! Definitely worth it, and older.

You might not see lines erased 100% but the same might be said of people in their 30s, and past posts here show that if you search for them. Repeat botox will help, and the gap needed between botox should lengthen from around four months to six, at least it does for many people.

Agree with @LoisLane23 about using someone qualified.

I've started having it last year at 49. It's interesting to say what you've booked before hand, mine is a doctor (don't go somewhere that is a dentist!).. and was an ex plastic surgeon, she took photos of me and she discussed what she thought and where it would have most impact. We went for 4 light areas, in between eyes, crows feet, and under brows, def a bit stingy but only moments, no bruising ever, and worth every penny, within 2 days I look younger/fresher/less tired. I go about 3-4 times a year. Did take me ages to think about it though! Def go on a recommendation, and don't go somewhere because they are good at hair/teeth/waxing!! It's quite a big deal so make sure they know what they are doing! And that they offer a review a few weeks later.

How did she manage to get your deep set wrinkles around the eyes out?

Your local dentists. All the dentists near me do facial
Clinics and Botox.

Dentists are maybe good with lip filters
