Cross body / small bag - help me not look like my mother

So I’ve had a lovely taupe small cross body bag for years (very similar to a Chloe bag). Suddenly I believe it’s very frumpy looking. I was at a festival last year and I think people were sniggering at it.

what’s a more up to date version of the cross body bag - style wise ones ?

Lovely camera bag is now in Sainsburys TU range.
It has some quilting on and actually looks cool.
I got the beige one, has a very colourful strap, but I have few of these straps so I can swap them over.

I am not very fashionable but love the look of this

Maybe they were snickering as you brought an expensive bag to a festival where it may get ruined? X

@24KaratCucumber

I just ordered the Roka Willesden , I'd been idly searching for a new backpack style (I usually buy Kipling but they've been a bit meh -samey / ugly colours/ugly prints )
I had a browse through the Roka site some really nice , useful looking bags .

I'll come back when it arrves

Please do come back. I first saw one being carried by a very stylish and slim young woman in Tesco. She looked so put together, confident and cool... and I admit to being very jealous.. 🤣

Does anyone with big boobs have either the Cos or Uniqlo one? Not sure if it would be flattering!

I have the Uniqlo bag, the strap is adjustable so you can lengthen it and wear it like a normal crossbody rather than under your bosom (as you say, not very flattering!)

It isn't my favourite bag but then again it was only £15.

PillBoxes · 18/03/2023 13:31

How do you all know the brand names of things by just looking at someone using a "thing"?

If I see something I like I buy it, fashionable expensive label or not!

checkedcloth · 18/03/2023 14:08

@FordCreek thanks for the sanctimonious post. I’ve actually dedicated my whole career to the care of older people and work actively to combat ageism. But yeah, you go ahead and judge me on a joke about a bag.

budget could be up to £150 for something that I will get years worth of use off. (Hence why I want something relatively current but clearly a class of too)

Thanks for the tip re the M&S one - will
give it a miss

Im a similar age to you and use a small Chloe Marcie for everyday.

Look at Pom Pom London - not expensive and similar to the M&S one you've posted but with interchangeable straps (waits for someone to come along and tell me how unfashionable that look is now)

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 18/03/2023 15:21

I have the Cos one linked above and really love it. I got it in cream about this time last year, then liked it so much I got the black a few months later when it came back into stock. It holds a surprising amount for being quite small! I’m not busty and find it very comfortable to wear. I’ve used one or the other every single day since last spring so cost per wear they are doing me well.

ArianahX · 18/03/2023 15:55

Has anyone got any ideas for me??

I like to be on trend but the shorter strap cos & Uniqlo bags are problematic for me as I have large boobs & tummy unfortunately.

So I do need a bag that I can wear with a longer strap also because I need to position the bag towards my front as I do a lot of walking where there are muggers etc.

I really hate the feel of nylon & polyester both as outer & as a lining for sensory reasons.

I also need to fit: a wallet, a phone, a drink bottle, sunglasses, ear buds, makeup & small umbrella in it!! (I don't drive!)

I'm currently using an old grey suedette River Island bag with 3 zip sections which I updated with a pale pink wide camera bag strap.

I like black, grey.

My budget is absolute max £50.

ArianahX · 18/03/2023 16:04

Sorry I didn't mean no polyester at all, I meant no nylon only!!

bringbacksideburns · 18/03/2023 16:19

Love the Pom Pom bags but can’t justify spending £90 right now on a bag I don’t really need. Love the straps.

may look at these ‘camera bag’ cheaper options.

MaPaSpa · 18/03/2023 16:21

The row have a banana cross body bag it’s lovely.

Summerhillsquare · 18/03/2023 16:23

I have a black mock crock rigid leather one from Paul Costelloe. Which I managed to obtain in a Hampstead charity shop for 12 quid. Looks good with jeans or a suit, Def a classic. Get yourself on Vinted etc.

CaveMum · 18/03/2023 19:23

I’ve got a few bags from Cambridge Satchel Company: www.cambridgesatchel.com/collections/cross-body-bags

Newladyeveryday · 18/03/2023 22:15

Johnny Love Rosie have beautiful little bags.
Also Topshop.

CharlotteSometimes1 · 18/03/2023 07:29

The M&S camera bag you posted is a bit cheap looking in real life, also camera bags have been around a while so aren’t the most on trend.

Love a camera bag. But not in black.

ruthieness · 19/03/2023 00:09

I have that M&S bag and I love it. Nice leather and the fittings are good too. Been using it every day for a year.
I have a few interchangeable straps.

Definition of trump. I’m 43 and wouldn’t wear that. Don’t think my 76 year old mother would either.

mumda · 20/03/2023 21:31

Any ladies with bigger boobs wear one of these?

Floordilemma · 20/03/2023 21:32

I have the lottie. I don't think it anyone has ever laughed at it. Would be fine at a festival...not that I'd go.

QueSyrahSyrah · 20/03/2023 21:34

I'm nearly 40 and just can't imagine myself wearing one of the short strap crossbody bags that looks like a bum bag worn in the wrong place. They're for my teenage nieces.

This is my current crossbody. I love it and don't care what anyone else thinks of it. I do wear the strap a bit shorter than pictured.

My 60 year old Mum has it too in black Blush

I'm a big Mia Tui fan. Just got my 2nd Lottie after the other got too tatty after maybe 3 years almost daily use. I love the Isobel for holidays as it's tiny but tardis-like, so I'll drop it in a backpack or beach bag for days out.

TicTac80 · 20/03/2023 22:06

Would any of the bags on the Kipling website suit? I was looking at the beautiful bags on the Cambridge Satchel site just now and then went down a bag rabbit hole!!

YouOKHun · 20/03/2023 22:29

If you are after a camera style cross body leather bag there are quite a few from Italy on eBay c£30-40 and lots of strap too for about £6-12.

Also this shop has some fun colours www.pinkpenguinboutique.co.uk/collections/bags

more expensive there is zoom Pom as mentioned by someone else and also Meg & Bee.
