Is this OK to wear for a July wedding (guest outfit)

It’s a wedding in a country house/posh barn. Day into night.

Is this dress too cocktail dressy (it’s darker than the pic) or would it be OK? Should I go for something a little more summery or do the florals get around that?

And what do I wear on top e.g. what colour and style? I get cold year round and wanted to be a little more covered during the wedding bit).

See, I genuinely don't get this p.o.v.

Surely the most obvious answer is because you might be freezing, even in July???

What is the OP supposed to do - just sit there slowly turning blue if the good old British weather doesn't play ball on the day?

Wear a jacket, OP, it will be fine.

If op is sensitive to temperature don’t chose a off shoulder dress and then frump it up with a bolero or cardigan or pashmina
Chose appropriate attire she won’t freeze in
that dress is all about the lines the off shoulder it’s designed to be worn unencumbered, to appreciate it. If that dress is accessorised with bolero, cardi etc it will ruin it
Turn blue? No. Just chose appropriate warm enough attire

Usually I say wear what you like, but for a wedding day time I would want to cover my shoulders with a light jacket , doesn't have to be MOTB look, I would think something funky and a contrast would work ,with chunky footwear.

Thanks everyone.

I have thyroid issues and various other things going, plus you never with an English summer. 😆

And even though I’m size 10 and a B cup, the dress looks a bit more booby on me than the model so thought having a cover up might be worth it for the ceremony part.

I definitely wouldn’t be asking otherwise.

How about a jacket like this?

Hmm … Grin

If it were me, and I was determined to wear it, I might look for a beautiful, sheer silk shirt (in whichever of the dress colours is most flattering) to wear underneath the dress. That way it would look less cocktail-y. And be marginally warmer.

(I have a similarly shaped, corseted dress in tweed - far more often worn over a white shirt or cashmere t shirt than on its own.)

Get a jacket if you need one but not a bolero jacket or cardigan and definitely not a pashmina. That's all I was saying.

I think a blazer might work in the right colour just not too structured.

It would be a no from me - it is a cocktail dress. Too fitted and too much flesh on show. I think you would probably be much better off in a dress with shoulders rather than trying to put a jacket over this.

Kai1981 · 18/05/2023 18:16

Thanks all. Will have a think.

@Drowninginoptions I did wonder if it was a bit cocktail-y but it’s a day to night thing. Do you mean too much flesh because it’s a wedding or just you personally wouldn’t wear it?

For me it is too much flesh for a wedding, think about what you'd traditionally wear in church. That's it for me. As for cocktail , it is but you can dress it up or down I think. Sorry butting in.
