Frizzy hair (picture for ref) - no effort soloution?

pontipinemum · 07/03/2023 12:03

I've attached a picture. The first picture is what my hair looks like after I shower and let my hair dry naturally without brushing it. I brush it before I shower.

Then there is this morning, after I brush it. It goes into a puffy frizz bomb, doesn't actually look too puffy in that pic .

I normally tie it up or straighten it. But I am thinking if I could get it to look more like how it does when it naturally dries it might be quite nice, apart from the fly away wispy parts.

Any thoughts on if the 'last night' picture is a nice way to leave my hair? And if so how do I keep it looking like that? Or should just keep straightening it

Thanks

Your hair looks gorgeous in both pics. I'm very envious 😘

SBAM · 07/03/2023 12:08

You’ve got lovely hair. It looks naturally wavy to me, so don’t brush it when it’s dry!

Would loosely braiding for bed work then just running fingers through in the morning?

You could try some curl gel or serum when it’s wet to help maintain the wave definition as it dries.

pontipinemum · 07/03/2023 12:11

@Ihateboris thank you I think my hair is quite boring. I always wanted to be a red head but I'm too lazy to dye my hair.

@SBAM there is a bit of a wave to it naturally. I'll try the braid and see how that goes. I WFH and live on a farm so can go the whole week without seeing anyone bar DH but I want to start making a bit of effort for myself. And the postwoman/ Tesco man 😂

Your hair is gorgeous in both pics and not very frizzy at all.

I have sort of similar hair (but definitely not as lovely)

Second the plaiting overnight, so it's not tangled in the morning. When you wake up just undo the plait and run your fingers through and never ever brush when it's dry!

CatOnTheChair · 07/03/2023 12:24

I wouldn't call that frizzy!
What happens if you don't brush it? Either detangle with your fingers or a (really) wide toothed comb?

dontgobaconmyheart · 07/03/2023 12:29

I don't think it looks particularly frizzy really OP, it looks completely fine (and nice!) in both pictures. I think when you are used to straightening your hair a lot you get used to it being much sleeker than it would typically be and so perhaps by comparison it feels messier - but that isn't a negative.

I would probably just buy a shine spray and brush it through, I don't think your hair looks coarse or frizzy enough to need heavy serums which would weigh it down.

pontipinemum · 07/03/2023 12:35

I don't straighten it much only if I am going somewhere so maybe once a month.

I think I'll try the braiding, I've never not brushed my hair in the morning, I suppose it's a habit from childhood. Brush teeth/ brush hair first thing.

Would something like this keep a smoother wavy look - www.boots.ie/umberto-giannini-curl-jelly-scrunching-jelly-200ml-10222389

I wish my hair was that frizzy! It looks great in both pictures. Mine is curly, but I can't be doing with high maintenance styling. I only brush it before it is washed. Then I just comb through a small amount of coconut oil and leave to dry. Run my fingers through when nearly dry. It only gets straightened for special occasions (ie when my hairdresser does it!)

Blueey · 07/03/2023 12:38

My hair dries similarly.

The next day, I brush it with a Wet Brush which is gentle (or finger comb it) It then is smooth but a sort of slightly frizzy and non style looking, much like your second picture. So at this point I put a little Aussie Work That Curl Serum through - I rub it on my palms and between my fingers then finger comb. It makes the waves come back out and the frizz subsides. I've used it for years now and couldn't be without it.

Pashazade · 07/03/2023 12:44

If you use the curl jelly only apply small amount when your hair is wet, it's designed to dry tighter to enhance curls so I'm not sure sure what effect it would have on waves like yours, (which are lovely). Only brush/comb when wet. You may find combing conditioner through then rinsing out works well. You could try plaiting wet so what effect that has. Using a silk pillow can help too as the hair follicles get less dragged around, but honestly I'd say you're looking at minimal frizz there 🙂. I'd just gently shake out the plait in the mornings using fingers. But brushes will always make it frizz if you do it dry!
Alternatively you could try a leave in conditioner spray in the morning, or mix 50/50 with some water for a thinner mix and this might give you the calming effect you want.

I bought a jar of JVN serum on Sali Hughes recommendation. A tiny amount works miracles.

squirrelnutkins1 · 07/03/2023 12:47

It looks lovely! I'm with the others, don't brush!

IrisJoy · 07/03/2023 12:50

It’s lovely hair but if you want to emphasise the curl then look up merwave. I started using it about 6 months ago. It’s no effort and really make such a difference! I think it would really work on your hair

pontipinemum · 07/03/2023 15:21

@Pashazade I was told years ago never brush your hair when it's wet, cause it'll break it, honestly not sure if that is true or not. I bought silk pillow cases last year I hated it. I'll look up conditioner spray.

Loads of great suggestions on here, I guess I'll just try them out over the next while and see what works for me. 😊

I keep banging on about it but i use a heatless curl band its like a wire in a tube of padded satin you wrap slightly damp hair in it and leave for a few hours or sleep in it and when you take it out you have lovely curls that last ages, mine drop on day two to beautiful waves. Its transformed my frizz prone hair to hair that looks styled with minimum effort. I got one like this link, don't go for the rounder harder rubber style if you want comfort. Lots of you tube instructions on how to use, its basically a modern day version of rag curls and can apparently be done using a dressing gown belt.

WhereAreWeNow · 07/03/2023 17:41

Wow. If you think that's frizzy, you'd be horrified by my hair! I think your hair looks amazing in both pics. I wouldn't do anything differently.

Lindy2 · 07/03/2023 17:51

Cantu leave in conditioner and using a wide tooth comb rather than a brush.

DD has long curly hair and this method is working well for her.

macbooks · 07/03/2023 17:53

It doesn’t look frizzy at all. If anything, you have more flyaways in the “last night” image. But I think hair serum is the answer to your issue generally

RosaBonheur · 07/03/2023 17:55

I wouldn't say your hair looks frizzy in either picture. I slightly prefer how it looks in the first picture. If the second picture is how it looks when you've styled it, I wouldn't bother!

I bet your hair would henna well if you want to give red a try.

SweetSakura · 07/03/2023 17:57

Your hair is beautiful, it doesn't need anything!

macbooks · 07/03/2023 17:57

Also if you mean you want your waves to stay defined and not brushed out, get a wide toothed comb. There’s a certain way you have to brush your hair to maintain the definition, you don’t brush it like you would with straight hair. It’s hard to explain the technique as I’m not an expert. You kind of hold your hair up and brush out?

You can also use hairspray or a texturising spray to keep the waves in for longer.

thinkfast · 07/03/2023 18:01

Your hair looks lovely in both photos. It's not frizzy in either picture. I prefer the last night photo as it has more volume.

Backstreets · 07/03/2023 18:01

Both look lovely. Plaiting or pineappling (sleeping with a bun on top your head like a pineapple) are easy ways to reduce frizz.

Summer2424 · 07/03/2023 18:01

Hi @pontipinemum you have lovely hair, not frizzy at all!

RuthW · 07/03/2023 18:03

Don't brush it. Wet it in the morning.
