Frizzy hair (picture for ref) - no effort soloution?

pontipinemum · 07/03/2023 12:03

I've attached a picture. The first picture is what my hair looks like after I shower and let my hair dry naturally without brushing it. I brush it before I shower.

Then there is this morning, after I brush it. It goes into a puffy frizz bomb, doesn't actually look too puffy in that pic .

I normally tie it up or straighten it. But I am thinking if I could get it to look more like how it does when it naturally dries it might be quite nice, apart from the fly away wispy parts.

Any thoughts on if the 'last night' picture is a nice way to leave my hair? And if so how do I keep it looking like that? Or should just keep straightening it

Thanks

If you used curly girl care regime or similar you would have defined lovely curls. I wash, condition, add definer cream and leave to. Dry or use a defuser and add a bit of their serum. If I've got all day a clip it up to dry in a bulldog clip. Overnight a silk scrunchy then finger comb and drop of oil

Tessisme · 07/03/2023 21:20

Your hair isn't frizzy. It looks in fabulous condition to me. Great colour too. I am a total bog woman. I have coarse, Celtic hair that doesn't know whether it wants to be straight or curly - so it does both. All on the one head. It's a fright.

CakeJumper · 07/03/2023 21:24

Don’t mean to invalidate but bloody hell in no way is that frizz. Even by the wildest stretch of the imagination.

For a deep condition and smooth hair the next day I leave in garnier shea conditioner (the natural one in a tub that looks like food). Seems to work well. Philip Kingsley swim cap makes it lovely as well but as it’s so pricey I only use it when I swim (2-3 times per week). Something in it works magic though and I have horrible dry curly but thin hair.

carriedout · 07/03/2023 21:28

I'm actually irritated you're wasting your time worrying about this!

You have lovely hair, both pics look great, and no one gives a shit anyway.

FizzyStream · 07/03/2023 21:30

Your hair is lovely! Mine looks like Hagrid's if I brush it.

FlickyCrumble · 07/03/2023 21:36

It’s not frizzy but I see what you mean. A small amount of cantu hair styling cream will accentuate the curl while flattening the wispy bits. Put it on after drying. Or a small amount of hair oil or shine serum will capture the wispy ness. Personally I would leave it as by day 2 I bet your hair looks fab.

journeyofsanity · 07/03/2023 21:41

I don't understand the no brushing when dry thing. It all clumps together during the day if you don't brush it a couple of times.

SleekMamma · 07/03/2023 21:52

Hahaha you think that's frizzy?
It's gorgeous!
Just need the right curl serum and pack those straighteners away.

pontipinemum · 07/03/2023 21:55

Maybe frizzy is the wrong word. My knowledge of hair maintenance is minimal. My hair is in good condition I think a few people said I'd like it to look more defined. I like the wavy look it gets when just dry.

I'm only doing it for myself at home to feel nice 😊

Deffo curly girl method.

Stop using sulphates and silicones
Only comb when wet with wide toothed comb
Scrunch in mousse when wet
Scrunch in old school gel when wet
Leave to dry in turban hair wrap for as long as you can / use a diffuser

RhadamanthNemes · 07/03/2023 23:18

I don't brush my hair.

It does it's own thing.

Satin Pillowcase. Denman brush + join a Facebook wavies (curly and wavy hair page)

Niftythrifter · 08/03/2023 00:28

What? Where is the frizz? I suffer from frizz and find using Garnier no rinse conditioner helps as does spraying with Aussie leave in conditioner which for me acts like hairspray to tame my frizz.

I don't understand the no brushing when dry thing. It all clumps together during the day if you don't brush it a couple of times.

i can tell you that that is certainly not the case for my hair. I can only brush it through properly right before I wash it. I went to a hairdresser once who tried to brush it after it was dry when they were blow drying it. You could see the panic on their face and they started grabbing hairspray, oil, twisting it etc. I don’t even get mine blow dryed in a salon anymore, I go to one over the road from my house and just get a wet cut and go home and leave it to mostly air dry. But my hair is curlier than OPs so that doesn’t apply anyway.

OP, I was actually wondering if you’d posted the same photo twice as I honestly can’t see any difference between the 2. 🤷‍♀️

CurlyhairedAssassin · 08/03/2023 04:36

Yes @Valentinesquestion , I’d love OP’s gorgeous hair. My hair is an abomination since having kids. I had hair like a young Nicole Kidman when I was in my 20s, proper spirals. The curls have gradually dropped so that it’s just coarse frizz. Like a cavewoman. There is a very specific way I have to treat it to try to keep it a bit curly. I don’t suit it straightened but guess I’d looked more “groomed” if I did, but it’s too time consuming anyway.

Morestrangethings · 08/03/2023 05:26

In the morning I wet my brush and then brush it through my hair. Then I just let it dry. It dries without frizz, flyaways. I use a Mason and Pearson brush which is very kind on damp hair (no tearing or hair breakages). Any brush with soft bristles should probably do the same. You can also use a little smoothing cream for the ends. I never blow dry my hair. You have much better hair than I OP. I did finally find a haircut that suits my hair which helps, but your hair is gorgeous as is.

Noicant · 08/03/2023 05:31

I’d be so happy if that was my hair. I found the olaplex oil quite good, it’s very non greasy but gives a shine. Few drops on wet hair.

Goodyetalso · 08/03/2023 05:41

But…there’s barely any difference between the two photos and it isn’t even the tiniest bit frizzy in either of them. You have lovely hair and are overthinking it.

FastFood · 08/03/2023 09:43

Your hair looks great OP.
I have similar hair, I just brush it before washing it (which I do maybe twice a week). I sleep with a bun to avoid frizz in the morning, and just run my fingers through it, with a bit of Bumble and bumble Invisible oil to give a shine (and it smells fab)

SleekMamma · 08/03/2023 10:25

It is so funny isn't it, how noone is happy with their hair!
If I got out of bed with hair like that I would be so happy!

Embrace the curl OP!

CactusPeach · 08/03/2023 12:44

Don't brush it when it's dry, it pulls it and loses any definition.
I use the curl jelly you linked, it's for use on wet hair, it would help hold the wave then in the morning just finger brush something like Superdrug's argon oil through it.

How do people manage to sleep with braided hair?

jannier · 08/03/2023 14:35

journeyofsanity · 07/03/2023 21:41

I don't understand the no brushing when dry thing. It all clumps together during the day if you don't brush it a couple of times.

If you brush curly hair it just goes into an undefined wavy mess. Spray with fine mist of water turn upside down a tease out using fingers like a comb, flick hair back and finger comb into place small amount of serum warmed in palms lightly fingered through hair done.

Shitfather · 08/03/2023 18:24

Gorgeous. That’s not frizz.

travelllbugz · 08/03/2023 18:32

Your hair does not look frizzy to me! But it does look a bit flatter in the morning naturally. You could try the "Denman brush curling technique (search on youtube) which is what I often do. You just get some curl cream or jelly on the hair when wet, and then use the brush to twirl long loose curls into the hair, (google the technique). and either let dry naturally or use a diffuser to make them more pronounced.

Then in the evenings, if I can I will put one or two plaits in my hair to sleep in, so it doesn't go completely flat overnight, and in the morning it's usually still a bit wavy, which is fine by me!
