how much is the most you've spent on a pair of socks?

I'm curious as I saw a pair of sports socks style socks on the BA&SH website with the perfect coloured stripes for trainers I have and I thought I'd buy them....but then I saw the price €35 for a single pair of socks so I backed away from the laptop.

However then I was reading a thread here about what coloured socks to wear with white shoes and there was link to a pair in around that same price..

And I followed a link on another thread about cashmere and there were socks on there for £350 per pair and they had to be specially ordered.

It's set me thinking and wondering if I'm missing out on a world of luxury socks?

I generally buy plain ones in M&S. I still want the first pair I saw though...

Around £20ish for walking socks.

earsup · 06/03/2023 22:10

About £12 for one pair for the boots and walking, worth it...a local foofy overpriced gift shop local to us sold socks and gloves at £77 a pair...it closed down after 3 years of trading....no idea who was buying their stock!

If searching for cheaper alternatives try the entering the keywords ‘ skater socks’ or ‘retro tube socks’ into Google for more in a similar style

Things like this come up …

For all those receiving multiple free bam socks - do you live in really fancy postcodes?? I am incensed that my over loyalty to them means no free socks
(op - I am also a big fan of BA&SH- buy the socks)

You've "paid" more than £18 if you add in your time knitting them.

But maybe the pleasure is in the knitting. 😃

I live in central Bath. Until lockdown I seemed to get a pair of socks every 6 months or so (I had at least 1/2 dozen pairs). They just turned up with a catalogue (no with compliments card or anything). I am guessing each pair gets worn 20-30 times/year and I easily used to walk a couple of miles/day

I am sure we had a thread about the mystery BAM socks a couple of years back.

Have you tried any of the clothes, Vermin?

I have leggings (excellent but lurid pattern I would not have chosen) and a crop top. Unfortunately I am very short so the distance between high waist leggings and long line crop top is insufficient for the two to be worn together, but they are delightfully soft. I fear my postcode isn’t good enough for free socks, like central bath is :(

I signed up to their newsletter when I ordered the first time but opted out of the free socks. Might be worth a try if you haven't already done so?

I have the most gorgeous, soft and comfortable set of socks from small brand Sox LDN, they are £14 a pair. I got 5 pairs for £56. I intend to get another order in soon as they’ve gone from being exclusively gym socks, to assimilated into every day wear!

South east. I’ve been sent about 5 pairs. Never signed up for anything don’t know how I got on their mailing list.

I spent €60 on a pair of cashmere socks for my dad when he was complaining about cold feet. He used them once and now they sit in a drawer.

£45 on a pair of cashmere bedsocks from Brora, and that was in the sale. They're very nice, but if I'm honest, I prefer the lambswool bedsocks from Pairs as they just are more sturdy. Got three pairs of them now and use them in the day (round the house, not out) as well as at night.

I used to get loads of free socks from BAM too but it must be at least a year now since I've had any. Maybe I've dropped off the special mysterious mailing list. I'm not in a fancy postcode at all.

My sister bought me 5 pairs of adidas sports socks for my birthday as I loved the colours. We saw them in the airport JD sports and they were £27 😱 definitely the priciest socks I've ever had.

Just over 6 months later and well over half of them have holes in. I thought more than £5 a pair would guarantee quality but apparently not...

EllaPaella · 11/03/2023 09:03

@doorwo same with those bloody Nike socks my DC all wear, very expensive and get holes in within a couple of weeks.

buckeejit · 11/03/2023 09:13

@Galadriel90 what would you recommend? I have a couple of pairs of falke socks that are my favourite.

I think a really good pair of socks is a great gift. We bought everyone Bam bamboo socks at Christmas which were expensive and are just ok. @EllaPaella why are they sending you free socks & how can I get in on that action?! All the free ones are putting me off & make a bit more sense how overpriced they are now as we've also to fund all the freebies! Grin
