how much is the most you've spent on a pair of socks?

I'm curious as I saw a pair of sports socks style socks on the BA&SH website with the perfect coloured stripes for trainers I have and I thought I'd buy them....but then I saw the price €35 for a single pair of socks so I backed away from the laptop.

However then I was reading a thread here about what coloured socks to wear with white shoes and there was link to a pair in around that same price..

And I followed a link on another thread about cashmere and there were socks on there for £350 per pair and they had to be specially ordered.

It's set me thinking and wondering if I'm missing out on a world of luxury socks?

I generally buy plain ones in M&S. I still want the first pair I saw though...

35 pounds on cashmere socks.

Stinkymalinkyfromdownthelane · 06/03/2023 18:24

£18 on sale from toast for my birthday. I thought myself wildly decadent.

Habreathmint · 06/03/2023 18:25

I buy from Jimmy Lion. They're around £10 but are superbly comfortable and look perfect after dozens of wears. I've bought gorgeous cashmere bed socks for £20. £350 is demented!

I do not own these and will not be buying them, but these cashmere socks are £270.

That is obscene.

Bookaholic73 · 06/03/2023 18:40

Wow, I’m about to spend £17 on 2 pairs of running socks today and thought that was too expensive.

journeyofsanity · 06/03/2023 19:36

If you want striped trainer socks why not get these from Adidas? Good quality. They last and way cheaper. Lots of colours.

£15 - a couple of weeks ago, they were Scandinavian and 80% wool. Got them to wear inside my wellies when it's cold.

CalamityClam · 06/03/2023 20:32

@StephenDedalus I was on the same thread as you with the same reaction! I want the metallic socks so badly 😂

greenacrylicpaint · 06/03/2023 20:36

about 25€
from the shelf of shame (you know, the one where you get a toothbrush and a single shaver) on a ferry

CrochetBug · 06/03/2023 20:44

I wouldn't dream of spending more than a couple of pounds on socks.

But I have more than 1 ball of yarn that's cost £18+ and will be enough to make 1 paid of socks.

So i wouldn't pay £18 for socks, but will pay £18 to make my own!

I love Bam socks but have never had to buy them as they seem to send me a free pair every couple of months! I would actually pay for them as they are great quality but quite happy to keep getting my free pairs.

I’ve bought about four pairs of leggings from Bam, which I love. My friend who also buys their leggings tells me she has received several pairs of free socks. I have been a customer of theirs for a while now and am yet to receive socks. I even told them when my birthday is in the hope of some free birthday socks. Why haven’t they sent me socks yet?!

(To be fair, they did give me a £10 voucher a while ago which I spent on some socks for my OH).

You've "paid" more than £18 if you add in your time knitting them.

As someone who loves Bam socks but haven’t tried any of their other clothes. Can I ask what the leggings are like-are they comfortable and wide waisted?

I know. It makes no logical sense. Other than the enjoyment I got from crocheting them!

countrygirl99 · 06/03/2023 20:57

There was me feeling wildly extravagant when I spent €38.95 on a 3 pair pack of alpaca socks in Finland. It feels quite thrifty having read this thread.

Vermin · 06/03/2023 20:59

Ffs Bam have never sent me free socks! I am however a HUGE fan of theirs and will deliberately save one pair from a multi pack for a day when I need a need a massive treat. The trainer socks are like a warm cuddle for your feet, and the (ugly) mid calf striped ones have cushioned toe sections- they are the very best, even if not free.

I am also a fan of tabio socks and can easily drop £20 on a pair in there. Toe socks for Pilates…
(buy the socks)

The leggings are divine! They are SO comfortable. Very, very soft and stretchy but full coverage so won’t go see-through when you bend over! They have a deep, wide and very comfortable waistband. I am large of waist and find them super comfortable- they are the only leggings I wear now. Absolutely recommend. I always wait for the sales because full price is a bit steep for me, but they are worth the price- even at full price, if you can afford it!

They do several different styles and I think the fabric differs slightly as my friend has a pair that feel a bit different to mine. I’ll see if I can link to my preferred style.

waterlego · 06/03/2023 21:14

@Shinyandnew1 The Enduro are the ones I have. They are what I would consider casual, daywear leggings as opposed to gym/sport leggings. They’ve several different prints and colours:

Cornelious2011 · 06/03/2023 21:16

£25 for Bridgedale hiking and ski socks. They're fantastic though- not a blister in sight!

Fairislefandango · 06/03/2023 21:21

About £15 on walking socks (Bridgedale or similar). My most special socks are the ones I knit myself though, because I only make them out of fairly expensive wool, and the sheer time it takes to make them means they are a bit of an indulgence!

StephenDedalus · 06/03/2023 21:27

Thanks @journeyofsanity but these are the ones I want to go with these trainers

At the risk of derailing the thread, I think i must now have at least 8 pairs of Bam socks (all pre-lockdown), all free. Mostly stripey ankle socks, but two pairs of stripey trainer socks.

They have lasted for years, but I have worn out the top of the ankles wearing in new boots.

Good to hear that the company is still around. I should probably spend some money on a few pairs just to thank them for what must have been 4 or 5 years of unsolicited sock deliveries.

Stoic123 · 06/03/2023 21:53

@Mercurial123 - like the look of the Izzy Lane socks. Have just ordered a pair for myself. Thanks.

megletthesecond · 06/03/2023 22:04

£20 on Bridgedale socks. They're warm and indestructible. I have accumulated several pairs over the years.
