Really effective handcream

Could I have recommendations please for the best and most effective handcream?
My hands are feeling tight, shiny and puffy . I've got a range of nice handcreams form LOccitane to Body Shop etc but I think I need something a bit more 'medical' if you know what I mean? I want it to sink in straight away and really soothe them as well. They are not sore as such, but current creams are not working. I'm going shopping today and will be near a Boots, Superdrug and M&S but could also buy from amazon etc
Thanks in advance!

I have never found anything more effective than Neutrogena Norwegian Formula. It's about £3.50 in the supermarket. Put it on last thing at night.

This one.
Nothing compares.

I know different things work for different people but I don't get the Mumsnet O'Keeffe's love. Hand, feet or lip balm all seem to dry to a waxy finish and then leave my skin far drier than it was before. That said, it's the bestselling hand cream on Amazon so might work fine for you. I save up for L'Occitane - the only thing that stops my hands shrivelling over winter...

So1invictus · 04/03/2023 18:56

I bought the O'Keefes at the beginning of lockdown and the tub is still in the drawer. I use it on my feet every so often but it wasn't much good on my hands.
There are also worse creams than good old Atrixo around.

Something with urea in works really well overnight. This is what those really thick foot creams use and why they work so well.

L'Occitane's shea butter works best for me. The others ones might have lovely scents, but none of them hold a candle to the Shea butter one. Flexitol for cracked heels.

Loads of excellent ones to try here. I tried Aveeno on one hand and Neutrogena on another but they felt the same as my normal ones. Will try O Keefes. Someone in real life today suggested Nursem but they didn't have it in store

Overnight & wear gloves. The O'Keefes one is excellent

Totally agree. Weapons-grade hand and foot care.

CeraVe Reparative Hand Cream, it’s the only one that’s ever repaired my chronically dry hands and it isn’t greasy, either!

fajitaaaa · 04/03/2023 19:37

The nursum one smells too much for me

lissie123 · 04/03/2023 19:39

I use Weleda skin food. Excellent stuff.

Twillow · 04/03/2023 19:41

O Keefe's Working Hands is your friend - the one in the green tube rather than the tub (which has a different texture for some reason). It's about £6 I think, lasts quite a while. Mine get so dry they snag on clothes and this lets me get on with my day almost immediately without being slippery.

Spudina · 04/03/2023 19:46

I have really dry and often sore hands from over handwashing (nursing). I use Diprobase or body shop hemp. I have cotton gloves, smother them in cream and wear them to bed. Both work well.

This is the nuclear option for me:

balmonds.co.uk/collections/featured-homepage/products/skin-salvation

Best used with cotton gloves. Doing this overnight will transform your hands. I also highly rate Skin Food.

Agree, powerful stuff - not ideal for a quick moisturize in the day though.

Same, think I have weird skin as anything else just makes my hands feel even more dry and I have tried them all!

Reading with interest as I've started getting psoriasis on my hands.

Body Shop Hemp or Garnier Intensive 7 Days for dry and chapped hands.

BrimFullOfAsher · 04/03/2023 20:32

Definitely Kielhs. It's amazing stuff. Not cheap, but worth it.

Reastie · 12/03/2023 19:21

L'occitaine shea butter 20% has been my saviour for eczema for years but they've changed the recipe in the last year and it's not a patch on how good it was. I'm so devastated as I've tried so many hand creams and this was always head and shoulders above the rest.

greenacrylicpaint · 12/03/2023 19:23

weleda skin food.
it's quite greasy though but very effective if you put it on before bed.

Fleamaker123 · 14/03/2023 19:18

I've tried many hand creams over the years.
The best, by far, is Lotil. It's amazing.

TheBitterBoy · 14/03/2023 19:22

Eucerin, available at Boots. 10% urea. I put it on generously before bed and wake up with new hands. Seriously, I have tried many of these listed above, used to rate the body shop hemp hand cream, but Eucerin is the best, I feel stressed if I dont have a spare tube in the house.

Wbeezer · 14/03/2023 19:24

Gloves in a Bottle is what I rate, it's a shielding lotion that forms a barrier that lasts 24 hrs after it's dried. It stops the drying from the elements/ household chemicals etc and also keeps the skins natural moisture in. It cleared up the hacks in DHs hands.

HScully · 14/03/2023 19:27

I find you have to put it on far more regularly than you think, several times a day and every time you wash your hands. This one from Aldi is a great budget one for the day time and then I would use a more expensive one overnight
