Beauty Pie removing £5 membership rate

SlippinKimmy · 02/03/2023 17:05

Just got an email about this - it's so annoying! I've been a member for about five years and used the site quite often in the beginning, less so since the pandemic and working at home. I've accumulated about 3k in spending limit! Now they say they're going to remove the spending limit for everyone and in a tiny line at the bottom of the email say they're also moving everyone on the £5 to the £10 monthly fee. Argh! I don't need an unlimited credit amount as I never used mine up anyway. I suppose I'm unprofitable for them is the bottom line. I think I'm going to cancel - I like some of the products but can't justify doubling the membership rate per month to access them. Anyone else in the same boat?

Yes I also cancelled today for same reason. They offered a 3 month extension but oddly didn't offer me the £69 per year annual fee. I am going to see if I miss it and then rejoin for annual fee if I do.

Mercurial123 · 02/03/2023 17:19

I pay the £59 annual membership and have just cancelled. I don't buy from them often enough to justify renewing every year.

SlippinKimmy · 02/03/2023 17:38

Yes, I emailed to cancel and they offered me the three months extension, so I'm going to take it, stock up and then hope I don't forget to cancel! I use the Jeju cleanser regularly, and I like the face oils. I just don't get through enough to justify a tenner.

I’m in the same boat, and have emailed - it feels disingenuous if I’m honest! At this point why do they have membershIp at all, surely they’re making enough to cover their ‘cost price’ schtick? I tend to buy products every few months as needed and resent being pushed to either pay £69 up front (which isn’t in the budget right now with bills as they are!) or £120 over the year rather than my current £60 a year.

Lola001 · 02/03/2023 17:56

What is beauty pie? And what's the membership for?

BatFaceOwl · 02/03/2023 18:04

@Lola001 why not have a google?

I don't like their business model. Vastly inflated rrp's and a lot of smoke and mirrors with their marketing

BillStickersIsInnocent · 02/03/2023 18:05

Just read that email - sneaky that bit at the bottom, I wouldn’t have read it if I hadn’t seen this thread.

I’m going to cancel, I love the japanfusion cleanser but not enough for £10 a month.

Greencrocs · 02/03/2023 18:12

Thanks for the heads up as I would have missed this too. I’m really disappointed and I hate how they had the nerve to write “some good news about your membership” in the subject line!

Wowzel · 02/03/2023 18:12

I'm going to place an order now and then cancel. Wtf. It's not worth 120 quid a year just to be allowed to purchase

SlippinKimmy · 02/03/2023 18:25

I know, I felt the email was so sneaky! Talk about burying bad news…

I used to like them pre pandemic but then their membership model changed a bit

Artemisty · 02/03/2023 20:35

I've cancelled my membership now. I don't know who was 'asking' for the new model with the unlimited sales limit but ultimately I had a massive amount saved up and now it doesn't mean anything
When they started it was about no marketing and no mark up - they talked about cost of advertising, cost of overheads with a shop - both of which they've gone full throttle on in the last year. I don't see what they're saving money on any more.
The prices for full price seem vastly over inflated and looking at what I used to pay for their products vs now (and vs other brands) I'd say it's just not worth the money any more. Such a shame. You can get the same thing for the same price elsewhere.

olivehater · 02/03/2023 20:42

When they introduces annual fee I complained as I had something like 4 months worth spending allowance saved up which now meant nothing and they did refund me. It’s such a shame they keep changing their business model. They were supposed to be a real game changer but now just starting to look like another brand.

dizzyupthegirl86 · 02/03/2023 20:43

I had a £5 monthly one for a while and I ended up paying £59 (it might have been £69), for a twelve month membership but I let it lapse in the end and didn’t renew.

they reformulated some products I really liked which wasn’t great, but the prices were also really starting to creep up. I used to enjoy that it was a one stop shop for all my skincare, but then I realised that I was having to buy certain things from elsewhere and the things I was buying from beautypie seemed expensive compared to similar products from other brands.

I checked my old orders one day and in the space of 18 months, about half of my regular products had gone up by nearly 50%!

having said that, I couldn’t find a moisturiser I liked as much as the pure oxygen one - there’s a Facebook group for beautypie members and a lot of lovely members on there with excess allowance will let people order on their account - so I’ve just stockpiled!

Oh I wish I had thought of that brainbox @BatFaceOwl

I did Google actually -- but it just seems so wierd. I understand you pay to be allowed to order? Why would you when there are loads of other places to order from.

BatFaceOwl · 03/03/2023 15:59

Welllll @Lola001 you did want someone to literally explain the whole model to you and sometimes it's easier to at least do a little of the work yourself ..

BatFaceOwl · 03/03/2023 16:00

But think of it like Costco. You pay a membership fee and in return, this gives you access to lower prices

Artemisty · 03/03/2023 18:51

Exactly @Lola001
It used to be a good model because you'd pay your membership to get things that were really good for a vastly reduced price because they weren't paying for advertising and stores.
Now what you get is pretty much the price of what you would buy elsewhere..
There are a few good buys but the full price is vastly over inflated to make it look like you're getting a much better deal than you are.

Marinapeppina · 03/03/2023 19:35

I always thought beautypie was such a scam. They just sell stuff any other retailer does, it never felt high end, but they convinced people to pay for the privilege of being able to buy things from them

BillStickersIsInnocent · 03/03/2023 19:48

Apology email out about the comms, doesn’t really explain things though!

stropster · 03/03/2023 21:29

I bet that's to back track as they've seen a flurry of cancellations now and probably seeing some social media back lash. They've def lost me.

BillStickersIsInnocent · 03/03/2023 21:40

Yes I’m off too, I don’t like the way they’ve gone about this.

HaroldTheStallion · 03/03/2023 21:43

It used to be good but has become a scam with prices rising higher and higher and now this doubling of the monthly membership fee while claiming its "good news." Some of their products are good but not worth the price plus fees.

OliverBabish · 03/03/2023 22:02

Such a shame to hear because I loved it during the pandemic. I did miss it and went back onto the site recently but I can’t justify £69

itsthefinalcountdown1 · 03/03/2023 22:32

Paying to have "access to low prices".. It doesn't work out any cheaper, the RRPs are ridiculous and the products are nothing special. The whole thing baffles me tbh.
