What should I do with my hair (with pic)

Going to get a haircut tomorrow and I am going to end up doing my usual shrug when they ask what I want done and end up with a basic trim.

It’s very thick, somewhat wavy. Has a tendency to grow into a triangle shape because it gets weighed down at the roots but thick and wavy at the ends. I’m very low effort with hair, no interest in spending time on styling.

What should I do with it?

Your hair is like mine in terms of weight and volume.

  1. DO NOT get a fringe
  2. DO NOT get a bob

🙄

  1. Ask for some graduated longer layers around the front (to frame the face)
  2. Consider some highlights in that area?
  3. Ask them to take the weight out of the ends.

Good luck!

My hair is similar to yours. I had a Dyson air wrap for Christmas-bloody game changer!!!

mangosmoothieisthebest · 25/02/2023 23:56

What about a dark textured Bob?

You have lovely hair. My dd has hair similar to yours. When she was about 8, the hairdresser said most women would kill for hair like that. I like the long fringe idea (deffo not short). As you have a side parting, to cut it on the side - unless you fancy a change and do bear in mind this means you’ll always have to part it in the same place - and ask the hairdresser to cut it on the wave so it sits straight. As for the shape, the hairdresser cuts into the hair at the ends rather than layering. It reduces that A shape.

I use a denman clamping brush, I think they are about a tenner. My mum bought it for me on a whim about 15 years ago. Still going. Game changer. I also searched specifically for a hairdryer with the highest wattage I could find. It was surprisingly not an expensive revlon one from argos.

Don't go short! I have your hair and it needs length to cope with the weight.

My hair dresser takes some of the weight out of mine by sort of chipping into it. And then just trims the ends with some long layers (not short or you look like a mushroom).

Get a fringe. Before I went to the airport, well in advance I'd have my outfit ready, read a book or a couple of magazines and have a leisurely coffee and people watch

Am I being thick? What's an airport got to do with things?

lucykk · 26/02/2023 08:11

Agree with no bob. The wavy hair (and slight frizz if you don't mind my saying, it does often come with wavy hair after all) would make it a higher maintenance style, and you have no interest in styling.

For the same reason I'd avoid a pixie. It's too short for layers in my opinion, unless a couple of subtle layers at the front.

Otherwise just another good trim. Ask for a colour or conditioning treatment if you're bored.

HappyFannyPetrow · 26/02/2023 08:26

I’d be happy leaving the hairdressers with hair like that! Try looking like Mick Hucknall, nothing can be done to make mine look half decent.

Glad someone asked this as I was puzzling over that post for ages.

Layers layers and more layers. Curtain bangs.

All 90s and swishy.

I am so jealous! I wish I could that to my hair. You really do have great hair!

Please upload an after pic.

Same!

Hatehairdressers · 26/02/2023 19:42

Sorry to disappoint but I’ve ended up with a trim - well, a good couple of inches lopped off and weight taken out with hidden layers. It looks fine, always difficult to really judge straight out of the hairdressers as it always looks better for a proper blow dry. Will try to get a pic later, though DH has already claimed it looks no different!

I think I might invest in going to a one of the fancy London hairdressers I used to go to for a bit of proper advice next time as the local place is a bit of a production line.

@Hatehairdressers have an undercut next time. I have hair like yours and it's just the bane of my life, but since having about a third of it shaved off I spend much less time frizz fighting and actually have time to run the tongs through it now and then, or throw a plait in the front or something.

sorcerersapprentice · 26/02/2023 20:20

I would get it layered and some highlights put in. It'll look great.
