What should I do with my hair (with pic)

Going to get a haircut tomorrow and I am going to end up doing my usual shrug when they ask what I want done and end up with a basic trim.

It’s very thick, somewhat wavy. Has a tendency to grow into a triangle shape because it gets weighed down at the roots but thick and wavy at the ends. I’m very low effort with hair, no interest in spending time on styling.

What should I do with it?

Have a good trim and splash out on a Dyson Airwrap with the smoothing brush, it is miraculous LOL.

Maybe I do need to upgrade my tools. I used like a babyliss big hair, but I broke three of them. But it did make me look a bit like I’d actually blowdried my hair rather than just dried it.

A layered bob would be easier, scrunch dried, unless you want a smooth look. It's the fashion to put waves in, using styling aids but if you have a wave you can do it without. Just a dryer to rough dry and then scrunch or twist it by hand. Kinder on the hair too.
I say this because it's what I do with mine, lifts the top a bit and shapes the rest. I can't spend ages on it and the back is more wavy than the sides so minimum work on the back, and just put the sides where I want them to wave.

Fringe and bob and boost the colour

I used to have v short hair and to go through a bob stage to grow it out, and it was hideous. I looked like Javier Bardem in No Country for Old Men

😂😂😂

(I bet you didn't though!)

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 25/02/2023 18:25

Does your hair suit you "up"? Maybe have a squiz at instagram. There are loads of people doing quick updo's. Maybe experiment with a couple of easy ones so you have some variety?

Hatehairdressers · 25/02/2023 19:36

I rarely manage anything more elaborate than a mum bun! It does suit me but I’ve never found an “easy” up do that hasn’t taken me half an hour, 30 Bobby pins and half a can of Elnett

You can always do a Demi/Britney 😏

MistySkiesAreGone · 25/02/2023 19:44

I have vv thick hair like yours. I've been through it 🤣 My best style is a side fringe. I don't care if they are fashionable or not. And some layering round the front. And lots of weight taken off the back. I keep the length about a third of the length of my torso. I tried shorter but with dark thick hair it can look a little severe.

Beautifulcoconuts · 25/02/2023 19:44

I'd get a shag long bob. Shaggy? Shag? Ya know what I mean!!

I have the same hair type as you. Takes ages to dry. It's wavy. It's a menace. It fucks me off 😂 on windy days it gets tangled and when it rains - it goes frizzy and wavy.

If its short - it's a triangle.

Shag long bob is so easy to manage x

Beautifulcoconuts · 25/02/2023 19:46

Shaggy! 😂😂 oh my goodness I'm embarrassed

MistySkiesAreGone · 25/02/2023 19:46

I do it up a lot, my best are either a bun, a high pony tail if feeling sporty. I have also taken to a lot of half up styles. The best clips for this are metal claws! If you have thick hair. Also I sometimes plait the half section. Really fun and chic and stays all day.

MistySkiesAreGone · 25/02/2023 19:47

I'm still traumatises by the 90s when I went and asked for a shag bob like winona ryder. It looked awful. If you go for it please post a pic OP!

tinselvestsparklepants · 25/02/2023 19:50

If you already have wavy hair, perhaps go for an Italian Bob but without a fringe, blunt cut with shattered ends. The shattering will remove weight so your hair will have more of its natural wave, a blunt cut will look modern and lovely. IMO layered bobs look a bit old. You can wear it with a central or side parting, natural or use straighteners to give it a structured curl.

Beautifulcoconuts · 25/02/2023 20:11

@MistySkiesAreGone omg i deffo didn't mean that! But damn her outfits are so cool 😂 (just had a Google!!)

Does anyone have one you could try? I borrowed one for a couple of weeks, then bought one before I gave it back.

I just rough dry it with the hairdryer attachment, then go through it upside down with smoothing brush. Work of minutes, and no art to it, and it stays smooth.

QCKC · 25/02/2023 22:42

Your hair is like mine in terms of weight and volume.

  1. DO NOT get a fringe
  2. DO NOT get a bob

🙄

  1. Ask for some graduated longer layers around the front (to frame the face)
  2. Consider some highlights in that area?
  3. Ask them to take the weight out of the ends.

Good luck!

PurplePansy05 · 25/02/2023 22:44

A lob with very delicate honey blonde babylights.

Your hair is beautiful
I would just ask for a tidy up ! Agree with the hint of colour and some long layers

AllOfThemWitches · 25/02/2023 22:47

Im also extremely lazy low maintenance and I have collar bone length hair, long layers, balayage and I plait it every night. It looks messy but in a good (ish) way.

WhereAreWeNow · 25/02/2023 22:49

You've got really nice hair @Hatehairdressers . I'd love to have your hair. I like it as it is. If you want a change, I think I would go for a long fringe. Something tousled and lovely like this

Wallawallakoala · 25/02/2023 22:50

Definitely longer layers, my hair is exactly the same and shorter layers made it poof out and not in a good way. When I had a fringe it was an absolute nightmare because kept trying to go wavy.

trim, longer layers and good tools! But your condition and colour is lovely

mimiarm7 · 25/02/2023 23:07

I'd avoid a Bob at all costs. It's much harder to maintain and will take longer to style.

At least longer hair looks good even when not styled as the weight keeps it down.

I'd go for a longish side swept fringe.

Your hair looks lovely.

milkyaqua · 25/02/2023 23:26

I’m very low effort with hair, no interest in spending time on styling.

Then get a bit of a trim, ask advice for some product for the ends and apply sparingly, and leave it be.

I wouldn't even bother with the trim, frankly. All these suggestions for bobs and fringes are just recipes for faff, and you have no interest in such faff.

Quitelikeacatslife · 25/02/2023 23:39

I've got think hair and bob is hard to keep nice, looks more triangle if you just leave it. But centre part with long fringe is easy and best hair I've had for years. Think a grown out fringe look. Curtain bangs . I def style (blow dry and style with straighteners ) after washing but only do that twice a week.
