I've got a milestone birthday this year and I'd like some real gold earrings. Studs that are comfortable to wear all the time and ideally a screw back so I don't loose them. Neutral enough to go with everything. What are your favorite jewellers for something like this?

I have some little gold Vivienne Westwood orb studs for every day wear.

Mouthfulofquiz · 24/02/2023 13:03

Go to a vintage jewellery shop. You’d be surprised what you can get for your money. I won’t buy gold plated and pay over the odds for it.

Heart earrings are timeless in my view, can be worn by anyone!

You can convert Tesco points and spend them in Goldsmiths.
Has to be full price.
I have done this a couple of times now.

Do you like these?

Have you thought of pearls?
I have these and used my Tesco points to make them cheaper.

I like the folded heart earrings - classic with a bit of a twist.

I don't see how they are "too young" but then I am pretty playful in my style (or lack thereof - these things are subjective!)

Twazique · 24/02/2023 17:08

I like the hearts as well!

Talipesmum · 24/02/2023 17:12

I bought these for myself recently- they’re gold vermeil rather than solid gold, but they’re on silver and I can’t see them not lasting - I’ve had other things from the seller before a while ago and they’re v good quality.

I like these because there’s a bit of substance to them and they look a bit more distinctive, but are a very simple everyday go-with-everything but not boring shape.

I've got a few things from Monica Vinader and so has my mum. Really like everything tbh. I only have silver but I know she has the gold plated and they're still looking good after 2-3 years' wear.

I like the look of Swarovski as well, they often have some classic designs and are often gold coloured rather than gold.

I think with these the drop is detachable (it would be worth checking). I like the Kiki McDonough earrings where you can mix and match but cant afford them!

Irena Chmura Wolf&Badger I have a few of her flat gold studs, very simple and understated.

Also love Alison Moore jewellery, more silver than gold but still lovely quality.

Swiftbushome · 24/02/2023 18:07

Do.you like sparkly? Laura Bond does lovely huggies and studs and lots of them have a flat back that screws on so won't dig into your head when you sleep.

savvy7 · 24/02/2023 18:51

I like the heart earrings and am wearing simple hearts myself.

I do like that first link, my current titanium ones are very similar looking. Not sure about pearls, possibly a bit fancy/feminine, I associate them with glam black tie events or the queen!

'Classic with a bit of a twist' is what I'm after, perfectly sums it up :)

Oh thanks! These are what I was looking at on there www.monicavinader.com/gift-sets/ziggy-green-onyx-teardrop-gemstone-huggie-earrings-set

However I wear a ring with a large red bead in it and wonder if it would look odd not matching?

I saw these at the bicester village MV and they are stunning irl

NickyT64 · 08/03/2023 21:53

Gold plating is much better quality these days. My tip would be to look at gold vermeil- much thicker layer of gold plating, ideally plated on sterling silver. My go-to brands are Missoma, Astrid and Miyu and Astley Clarke
