Help me find some lovely everyday earrings.

I've got a milestone birthday this year and I'd like some real gold earrings. Studs that are comfortable to wear all the time and ideally a screw back so I don't loose them. Neutral enough to go with everything. What are your favorite jewellers for something like this?

I like Monica Vinader here for everyday although most of my day to day stuff is costume jewellery from department stores or places like Oliver Bonas. It does depend on what you want too - if I was buying precious stones in my gold jewellery I'd probably start with my local independent jeweller on my high street.

I like 'huggies' for this, maybe worth googling to see if they'd suit.

Are you thinking gold, silver, rose gold? Budget? Stones or not?

Budget up to £80, I like the huggie style and thats what I'm currently wearing be it titanium in a gold colour.

There are some lovely ones with a green stone on the MV site posted above, does gold plating last long?

Take a look at Liberty Online. They have a wide selection of "proper" jewellery brands including studs etc in gold.

SavBlancTonight · 24/02/2023 12:12

As far as I know, gold plating will last indefinitely. I could be wrong but certainly haven't had any problems myself, certainly not with ear rings.

SavBlancTonight · 24/02/2023 12:14

If you don't necessarily want real gold, I'd also look at Oliver Bonas then. I have quite a few earrings from there and generally like them.

Kate middleton seems to get a lot of ear rings from Zara. Just sayin' Grin

RosesAndHellebores · 24/02/2023 12:18

Will you get classic gold earrings for £80? I've a pair of classic knots from the 80s which are 18ct (9ct makes my ears itch) and they were over £200 then. Then I had my colours dine and found out I was a summer and shouldn't wear gold!

For £80 how about some nice pearl studs or the tiny rings with little diamond like stones in them. I bought those for £72 in John Lewis. I also think a good quality 0.2 or 0.25ct imitation diamond is a good option. Small enough for people to think it's real if it's good quality.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 24/02/2023 12:26

No I think I will have to up the budget for the real deal.

Do you think these are a bit 'young' www.libertylondon.com/uk/10ct-gold-bijou-small-folded-heart-stud-earrings-000725109.html?queryID=44e3b37c2a401983401b988ad1bcf167&objectID=R393925006&indexName=production_emea_libertyltd_demandware_net__liberty__products__default

I want classic but get drawn to extravagant, no idea why as I very rarely go anywhere fancy!

TBF I think maybe I should start with some costume jewlery to find a style I want to commit to. If its good enough for Kate...

@LivingDeadGirlUK I think those Liberty ones are overpriced for what they are.

SavBlancTonight · 24/02/2023 12:30

Honestly? Yes. Grin Sorry, I feel like heart ear rings are generally not appropriate for full grown adult women on a day to day basis.

I am relatively new to Monica Vinader (but have bought an embarrassing amount LOL) - it does seem excellent quality. They have a five year guarantee, and then ongoing support at a low price if needed, so presumably they are fairly confident.

SavBlancTonight · 24/02/2023 12:35

If you really want plain gold (coloured) try looking at John Lewis.

I have gold knots, probably similar to what @RosesAndHellebores is talking about and on JL they're about £190. I also have something very similar to these. One day, I'd like to buy a bigger set, with real stones (mine are multi coloured stones).

On a day to day basis, my "good jewellery" is a pair of diamond studs in white gold. They're small - 5 pointers I think - but I love them.

Whitney168 · 24/02/2023 12:35

By the way, there seems to be an 'influencer' Monica Vinader code knocking about for 25%, which I have used successfully this week.

We can't wear heart earrings now past a certain age? I have worn a pair of Elsa Peretti open heart earrings in 18 carat gold for years now and at £700, dunno if I can just chuck them 😀

OP, take a look at Muru as it fits with your budget and the pieces are nice

LivingDeadGirlUK · 24/02/2023 12:39

There are some pretty styles on the Olivia Bonas site!

SavBlancTonight · 24/02/2023 12:40

Having just done some diamond research, my ear rings are not 5 pointers I don't think. They must be a bit bigger although they are small. But big enough to be seen!

Thank you, I have lots of silver jewlery but have come to realise it doesn't suit me, just fitted with that goth astheic (black doesn't suit me either) I wanted. So yes am looking for 'gold' coloured.

Oh thanks! These are what I was looking at on there www.monicavinader.com/gift-sets/ziggy-green-onyx-teardrop-gemstone-huggie-earrings-set

However I wear a ring with a large red bead in it and wonder if it would look odd not matching?

OP posts:
SavBlancTonight · 24/02/2023 12:48

I think if you just want gold coloured, you could try a few different styles, some plain and some with stones, in cheaper brands. I've got a few plain hoop style ear rings in yellow gold, rose gold or silver from places like New Look, Accessorise, department stores etc. If your ears don't mind "fake" gold, there's no reason to buy expensive basics.

I tend to spend money on styles that are more unusual or if I want precious stones. I am definitely going to treat myself to a pair of huggy style diamond hoops at some point, for example!

Those are cute. I don't think the non matching matters although maybe MV has something in a colour that works better with your ring? I like that the charm can be removed. <wanders off to take another browse at the MV website....>
