If you have plantar fasciitis

Then what shoes do you wear to work? If you have an office style job. I like to look smart at work but all shoes that aren’t trainers hurt my feet so much!

I think it often does just go. But stretching really helps. I wore loafers to work. And in bed wrote the alphabet with both feet. Tennis ball under foot when watch8ng telly.

Fairislefandango · 18/02/2023 19:58

I wore Crocs around the house and never wore thin-soled, unsupportive shoes. Beyond that, no specific types or brands of shoes made any difference (and I tried quite a few).

What cured my PF was the Crocs, plus: never going barefoot on hard floors, and doing stretches after every single run/lengthy dog walk or extensive time on my feet. Religiously. Having previously sworn the stretches the physio recommended didn't work. Yeah - they didn't work because I didn't do them enough!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 18/02/2023 20:07

I wear Solovair 8 hole Derby boots with PF supportive insoles. My PF is aggravated by my very wobbly left ankle, so I need ankle support. I find by wearing these 80% of the time, I can get away with ordinary flat shoes on occasion that I need to smarten up for a few hours. None of my other shoes have enough space for insoles. As I am a size 9, there is little option for buying a bigger size.

Cannot wear ballet flats at all!

I am not sure what I am going to do in the summer!

Clark’s. The uglier the better

Seasider2017 · 18/02/2023 20:08

I’ve had PF for 23yrs.
I’ve been passed round different consultants in the hospital.
orthopaedic consultant diagnosed me with PF from an mri , when I questioned him with
how do you know it’s that? He said, because I said you have.

I can’t believe you can have this for so so long, I’m now 65 and start with this aged around 42
my feet would feel so hot and sore when I walked on them.

I’ve had
cortisone injections (never again)
boot I wore overnight
shock wave therapy
acupuncture
over the years I’ve had 4 prs off orthotics made
the last ones where computer customised @ cost of £350, yrs feet still hot & ache !!
gel heel cups
probably more, but can’t think

recent mri showed NO problem???!!!
what is all the foot discomfort then

Spanielsarepainless · 18/02/2023 20:09

Stretching, as LOw have said, and rolling a spiky hard massage ball firmly under my foot helped most. Supportive shoes such as decent trainers (physios don't recommend Crocs, going by a friend's experience, but whatever works for you). Keep it elevated when you sit down, take anti-inflammatory tablets like ibuprofen.

Livedandlearned · 18/02/2023 20:23

A Dr Berg YouTube video taught me how to cure my very painful planter fasciitis.

It involves stretching the foot the complete opposite way to the way I had been doing for absolutely years.

rebekahnorris · 18/02/2023 20:30

'Fit flop' and 'Hotter' cured my plantar fasciitis. Check out their website. Good luck x

Same here

I wore boots with a small wedge and also bought insoles - I think the insoles were Scholl and I bought them from Asda. I am pain free now but if I wear completely flat shoes I can feel it starting again so avoid this type of footwear.

I did do some stretches but the most relief I had was from a frozen can of fizzy pop, I rolled it back and forth under the arch of my foot.

Multipleexclamationmarks · 18/02/2023 20:45

Pavers.
I find sketchers more comfortable but not allowed trainers for work.

MissMarplesbag · 18/02/2023 20:47

www.fitflop.com/uk/en/

I have several pairs of Fitflops in different styles. They're not completely flat & they have in built memory foam insoles so perfect for plantar fasciitis.

bingohandjob · 18/02/2023 20:59

I got PF overnight a few years back - it was excruciating. I used supportive insoles in all of my shoes (bought a job lot off Amazon just like the ones recommended above by Tial) and generally wore Ecco, FitFlop or Geox shoes and it went about two months later and I've not had it since. I kept walking and moving - I was determined to "walk it off". I'm very mindful of what shoes I wear now, Geox mainly because there's a range of styles and I know I can put them on without any need to to break them in though I can wear Converse with a pair of insoles in. I've got a pair of Crocs flip flops I use around the house to avoid being barefoot for too long as they have good arch support (bummer, as I loved walking barefoot) - this reminds me to put my pretty SaltWater sandals and "lovely" boots etc on eBay this summer! Hope it eases for you soon.

Brunonono · 18/02/2023 21:28

Birkenstocks as much as possible. I don't actually wear them to work but found wearing them all summer outside of work fixed the worst of the problem. When it got cooler, I felt the pain coming back so now wear Birkenstock slippers as much as possible!

WomanFromTheNorth · 18/02/2023 21:40

I had it and went to Shuropody and had some insoles moulded for my feet. I put them in whichever shoes I'm wearing and wear Birkenstocks round the house and it's gone now.

DeepestDarkestRiver · 18/02/2023 21:51

Reading with interest. I've had it a few times over the years and always managed to get rid of it, bit this time I've had it since July. Have tried wearing a boot at night (6 months), had physio, including a course of shock wave therapy, did all exercises religiously, stretch constantly, rested, insoles of all types, have fitflops, Birkenstocks and many pairs of Hotter shoes, all to no avail. Just saw a consultant who is sending me for a scan. Don't hold out much hope. I can't run, can barely walk, and can't even do spin class without pain. Want to cry just writing this. 😪

I had PF about 10 years ago. Went as soon as my underactive thyroid was treated.

Came back about 2 years ago..mixed in with some achilles tendonitist...went as soon as started HRT.....

Oestrogen and tendons v closely linked.

If you could have something else happening (thryoid/peri) it maybe worth getting that sorted.......

This is interesting. I think I have it at the moment. I (separately) have an appointment with the GP about peri on Monday. I’ll add it to the long list of symptoms to tell her about!

No footwear advice as I lived in trainers with it but I had shockwave therapy and mine healed within a month of it. I really recommend.

DH had this on his. Had it at the podiatrist. He needed 4 sessions and it cost about £500 all in but completely cured him. This was about 4 years ago and it's never come back.

Livedandlearned · 18/02/2023 22:28

Tight calves play a part as well

Babysharkdoodoodood · 18/02/2023 22:43

Took 5 years of stretching, wearing stupid boots at night, pain ball and 3/4 insoles. I wear the insoles all the time now, apart from sandals. I wear Teva on holiday.

Only for the last 6 months I have been suffering tendinitis in my glutea media. Yup: a pain in my butt! Can't walk properly so have resorted to a stick occasionally. Seeing a physio and about 8 different stretches x 3 a day. And it's on my favourite sleeping side so takes me forever to sleep.

I thought PF was bad but this is a whole new level of pain.

BringItBackBruno · 18/02/2023 22:47

Vionic shoes trainers and slippers. Complete game changer.

merlotlover · 18/02/2023 23:02

I've found cork bottoms like Birkenstock help or new balance for trainers
Never walk bare foot
Get your calves stretched at a sports therapist for example
And I had shockwave therapy too but I think the calf stretching was the thing that clinched it.

buckleten · 18/02/2023 23:07

I have PF and have had on and off for a few years. The best footwear I have found by a mile are Birkenstocks, even my slippers are Birks! Also Vionics are good, and sandals by Fly Flot.

CouldIHaveThatInEnglishPlease · 18/02/2023 23:17

I just wore Chelsea boots with very expensive insoles in them.
my arches dropped whilst I was pregnant, probably due to all the excess weight I was carrying. It seems to have healed its self now by wearing supportive shoes, doing foot exercises and loosing weight.

Seaitoverthere · 18/02/2023 23:28

Fitflops for me. I’ve had it a few times over the years and recently found ‘I have psoriatic arthritis so in my case is related to that.
