My head is so dry and itchy, its not nits! I've been using tresemme shampoo and conditioner and I think it's stripping my hair. Whats a good, gentle shampoo and conditioner please?

The garnier with porridge oats (white container pink cap). Word of warning not great for long term use as it dries out my hair- but I use it to fix when scalp gets dry and it’s AMAZING!! (I use herbal essences hydration shampoo to fix the dry hair!)

I haven't had time to read the whole thread, so apologies if someone has already mentioned this brand, but MooGoo is the best one I have found. I say this as someone who has tried so many different shampoos of all kinds. My scalp has finally settled down and it's such a relief. It's not cheap, but the relief is worth it.

ladymalfoy45 · 15/02/2023 18:17

Aldi Oil Shampoo. At work so can't remember. I've had an awfully itchy scalp for years and it's made such a difference.
It's in a gold/brown bottle. I'd got Philip Kingsley Scalp Serum and Eucrin Scalp Serum but this really sorted my itchy scalp.

ghostyslovesheets · 15/02/2023 18:21

Mine comes and goes but when it comes I like T-Gel or the oatmeal one mentioned above

Sadlifter · 15/02/2023 18:23

Polytar. Leaves my hair really shiny and soft as well

I've just bought Aveeno apple cider shampoo for this

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B08W6BXJYV?ref=ppxpt22mobbbprod_image

This one is absolute rubbish, it did nothing for my itchy scalp

I see I'm not the first to suggest it but definitely Body Shop Ginger shampoo (and conditioner but I've not used that but with peri menopause setting in and my once silky hair becoming drier I think I'll be adding this in soon). I've been using it for years and years and not had an irritated scalp once. My DD also uses it now and it's made such a difference to her hair and scalp too.

I make use of the refillable pump bottles (tins?) and only use a really small amount so my trip to the local Body Shop is only a couple of times a year. It was a real game changer for me.

That's got sulphates in though which will make it worse over time

I have psoriasis on my scalp so I get Alphosyl on prescription.

That will be stopping shortly. They're stopping all prescribed shampoos. They've just done it for my psoriasis shampoo and are going area by area

RaininSummer · 15/02/2023 18:39

It's far from special but vosene from the pound shop has really helped my itchy scalp.

The body shop ginger shampoo, I go between that and head and shoulders itchy scalp shampoo and they are the only ones that work for me.

This is the best. And the conditioner

NowWhatUsernameShallIHave · 15/02/2023 18:56

Tresemme is the worst shampoo I ever used

They’ve had class action suits filed against them - very stripping

I would use the Phillip kingsley shampoo

leave it on the scalp for 30 - 60 secs - maybe wan your face or something

they also do a tonic but Ive not used that

This gets you £5 off purchases over £20.

MGRE-TANI-C6C033

anyone can use it. I get points for future purchases too. I use the deodorant after ditching Mitchum which was only one that didn’t make me sweat. Much gentler and as effective.

Hi that code isn't working for some reason?

@user1494050295 The Body Shop Ginger Shampoo has Sulphates in though :(

Timeforachangeisitnot · 15/02/2023 19:02

MooGoo is great and I get on well with the OGX range.
I have very sensitive, eczema prone skinned Body Shop Ginger was way too strong for my scalp and exacerbated the problem.
Moo Goo soothed it all, and OGX is great, and cheaper, for ongoing maintenance.

NewDogOwner · 15/02/2023 19:05

Is there one that does greasy hair or one that can be used alternatively with one?

WGACA · 15/02/2023 19:15

Moo Goo shampoo is the only thing that’s ever worked for me too.

I think that goes to show that sulphates aren't the problem for everyone. I don't know what it is that causes my itchy, flaky scalp but I do know that Vosene, Head & Shoulders and anything else I have used for more than a couple of weeks results in the same whereas 8 or so years of daily Body Shop Ginger washes doesn't. 🤔

MadeInChorley · 15/02/2023 20:07

Another one for Nizoral. It was the only thing that helped me. My scalp was raw and itchy. With hindsight, I know it was a yeast infection and Nizoral was brilliant at clearing it. I no longer use it regularly, but do wash my hair with Nizoral occasionally just to preveny any flare ups.

BlossomWood · 15/02/2023 20:11

I use Aveeno itchy scalp shampoo, they've recently brought out a scented range of itchy scalp so I thought I'd try one, nope it made me itchy, so I'm back on the original.

Exactly the same as me! Body shop one is brilliant when I have a flare up

Ponderingwindow · 15/02/2023 20:19

Without knowing why your scalp is itchy, anything you try is going to just be random. That doesn’t mean it’s not worth cycling through some things, but be aware that some of the suggestions may make things worse, not better, depending on the cause.

You could have early stage dandruff or psoriasis, but you could also be reacting to a common shampoo ingredient.

@ladymalfoy45 Thanks for the recommendation. Tried this today and for the first time in months my scalp didn't feel sore and tight. Only 0.89 as well.

cocopops11 · 17/02/2023 11:58

I deal with the same thing, hair is itching after just one day :( I tried a shampoo bar from Lush, I think it was called Jumping Juniper and it really helped. The L'oreal clay shampoo which is in a green bottle is also very good

ladymalfoy45 · 17/02/2023 15:26

@grannycake hope it keeps working. I've been using it for 3 years.
