My head is so dry and itchy, its not nits! I've been using tresemme shampoo and conditioner and I think it's stripping my hair. Whats a good, gentle shampoo and conditioner please?

Also it's sulphate free (unlike the body shop ginger one which was my previous go to)

Cismyfatarse · 15/02/2023 07:01

Moogoo

I've just bought Aveeno apple cider shampoo for this

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B08W6BXJYV?ref=ppxpt22mobbbprod_image

I like this one too. So many of the shampoos for itchy scalps are for dry hair/scalp or dandruff. I don't have dandruff, my scalp is itchy and greasy, this is the best I've found.

I have to spend more on shampoo or I get itchy scalp. I find bumble and bumble is good - but basically anything that isn’t cheap,

Ditch anything with sls.

Yes, this. I had years of horrid itchy scalp only solved, and solved almost instantly by going SLS free

IWonderWhyIBother · 15/02/2023 07:17

Just looking at a bottle of treseme makes my scalp itch. Everything I’ve used over the years has been mentioned. Mine is psoriasis so it’s either flared up or not and it’s a case of trying to calm it which I tend to use Philip Kingsley for.

Fandangles · 15/02/2023 07:28

Another vote for body shop ginger shampoo and conditioner. I like that you can buy refillable bottles and stock up at the store too!

KatyS36 · 15/02/2023 07:59

E45 shampoo worked for me (better than a couple of premium brands)

SillyBub · 15/02/2023 08:13

I see I'm not the first to suggest it but definitely Body Shop Ginger shampoo (and conditioner but I've not used that but with peri menopause setting in and my once silky hair becoming drier I think I'll be adding this in soon). I've been using it for years and years and not had an irritated scalp once. My DD also uses it now and it's made such a difference to her hair and scalp too.

I make use of the refillable pump bottles (tins?) and only use a really small amount so my trip to the local Body Shop is only a couple of times a year. It was a real game changer for me.

sashh · 15/02/2023 08:15

I have psoriasis on my scalp so I get Alphosyl on prescription.

Luckydip1 · 15/02/2023 08:15

When all else fails use T Gel.

WhispersOfWickedness · 15/02/2023 08:40

Another vote for body shop ginger shampoo!

CornishTiger · 15/02/2023 08:49

Moo goo. It is 100% worth it and last for ages.

I switched to it about 10 years ago. SLS, silicone free and free of other nasty stuff too. Game changer.

My scalp used to be horrendous. Bled at times from itching. It took a while to adjust to Moogoo probably because of how sore it was. Plus there isn’t the traditional foam so that takes some adjustment as you think it’s not cleaning it. It is though

If I use anything else and cheat on moo goo I flare up quickly. My daughter uses it now too.

Day Lewis pharmacy’s stock it as well as some Holland and Barrett. Unfortunately until yesterday they had a rare free delivery offer. It’s worth paying for though. Get the trial kit.

CornishTiger · 15/02/2023 08:53

This gets you £5 off purchases over £20.

MGRE-TANI-C6C033

anyone can use it. I get points for future purchases too. I use the deodorant after ditching Mitchum which was only one that didn’t make me sweat. Much gentler and as effective.

CalloohCallayFrabjousDay · 15/02/2023 08:58

Nizoral is great.

DRS1970 · 15/02/2023 08:59

Niazoral is good.

AltheaVestr1t · 15/02/2023 09:04

Neurogena T Gel to get rid of the itch. I can only used sensitive shampoo/conditioner long term without it irritating my scalp. Garnier oat milk is good.

WandaWonder · 15/02/2023 09:17

RogueV · 14/02/2023 21:58

Nizoral
Neutrogena T Gel
Alphosyl -
To get rid

Vosene original as every day

The Philip Kingsley one is £££ and shit.

I agree with all this, never tried the last one though

Motorcyclemptiness · 15/02/2023 09:19

dermatologist recommended Nizoral to me

CrunchyCarrot · 15/02/2023 09:21

You may be reacting to an ingredient in the shampoo. I started getting an itchy scalp and realised it was the sodium lauryl sulphate. I now use an SLS free shampoo (DGJ Organics).

Geneticsbunny · 15/02/2023 09:22

I had the exact problem and switched to baby shampoo on the advice of my hairdresser and after a few weeks it completely cleared up.

I second Vichy Dercos! Only thing that works for me.

Thank you both for this, I've been searching for a shampoo with selenium in since elvive discontinued theirs!

On offer in boots atm

EffortlessDesmond · 15/02/2023 16:24

Another vote for As I Am. Dercos is good too, and there's a Davine's one that also has selenium but I've run out so I can't check for you.

RenegadeMrs · 15/02/2023 16:30

I use the system free ones from ogx. They can be found in supermarkets and frequently on offer. I found going sls free did the job for my itchy scalp.
