How can I avoid dated looking make up?

I’ve recently got back into wearing make up. I feel like I do a semi-reasonable job of applying it, but I can’t help wondering if it looks a bit 90s/early 2000s. What should I do/use so that my make up looks current? What shouldn’t I do/use to avoid looking like I’m in a time warp?

Any advice/suggestions welcome. Thank you.

Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation is brilliant. Water based and comes in over 30 shades.

It's very light and has a slight glow.

The thing with glow is that if you use any powder at all (which you need to if foundation is to last) then the glow turns into matte.

I use the tiniest dusting of their Nude Finish Illuminating powder in the palest shade.

My dd borrowed it off me and didn't give it back, I had a big version as well! I need to get more myself, Feb is a tight month, so perhaps March's present to myself...be interested to see what you think (the recommendation was from Andreea Ali just to be transparent).

Just updating about the Hourglass primer.
It arrived days as ago but I only remembered to use it on Sunday. I used it over a light moisturiser then a bit of concealer and light dusting of powder foundation over the top. I thought it was nice and as my skin isn't great at the moment. Thanks again for the recommendation.

I did only buy a 10ml (around £24.00) but a little goes a long way. I think it has an oily consistency as it goes on which then disappears.

Someone mentioned tightlining earlier on in the thread, just tried it this morning and my word I look like I've been crying all day, how on earth do you do it without looking like you've been punched in the eye or got hay-fever! I really like how it almost lines the eyelashes but not how it gives me sore eyes??? 😫
