Bastarding dry sore skin on eyelids - how to sooth and calm?

So for about 12 months now, having never had sensitive skin, my eyelids are taking it in turns to suddenly go a tiny bit dry then BAM overnight really puffed, sore and even drier. Occasionally it happens under my eye but I think certainly since November I’ve had sore eyes more often than not.

No allergies apart from hay fever which I’ve managed all my life.

In the early days I found after a few days they would settle then for a few days after a tiny bit of Skin Food helped them heal and moustused very gently.

Now anything I put on my eye lid sends it mad. I barely wear any make up and only occasionally a Decleor eye cream under eyes which touch wood that seems ok.

A few weeks ago after yet another flare up on my right eyeI saw a gp who diagnosed blephatitis and antibiotic cream shifted it.

I’ve since binned all eye makeup up just in case snd was happily wearing just mascara for work last week no problems and removing it/cleaning my eyes with Blephasol which certainly on one eye seems to have cleared it.

Yesterday this was my left eye (right on pic) I accidentally dabbed a tiny bit of eye cream on it Saturday night, idiot I am,

I don’t think it’s blephatitis again as it’s not originating from the lash line.

As I say I barely use any products now so can’t pinpoint any irritant there.

No skin irritation anywhere else even on my face.

Beautician hasn’t changed wax or brow tint either.

Any suggestions of how to calm and gently moisturise it without sending it to Defcon 1 every time?!

I know it’s vain but it’s really getting me down and my eyes have aged horribly. I started thyroxine and HRT shortly before symptoms started so wonder whether there’s a connection there.

www.rightdose.co.uk/item/290769/Eurax-HC-Cream-15g.html

This works for me and is only 0.25% hydrocortisone.
Apply the tiniest amount and just for a few days at most. And keep away from tear duct.

This very quickly fixed my eyes when I had the same problem a few years ago. Occasionally, if I use a product (usually eye shadow) that sets of a bit of irritation nowadays, I can stop it developing with just one application.

Haven't read all the replies but I find eucerin cream is the only thing that will calm mine down when they get like that. If that doesn't work I use 1% hydrocortisone for a couple of days and then back to eucerin. Feather pillows does it to me

Agree with PP who said to see an optician - I have this and it’s caused by dry eyes and blepharitis. The blepharitis doesn’t go away, once you’ve got it you’re stuck with it but a warm/hot compress and blephasol twice a day keeps mine at bay. See your optician 😊

Sorry to revive the thread - I have got this again after last getting in January . The eye dr prescribed three weeks of antibiotics and a steroid ointment for eyelids which I font want to take again.

Those who got rid of it with hydrocortisone- can you buy it otc?

Thanks you've reminded me to report back Grin

So I'm now almost 2 weeks clear! And I've worn mascara in that time! Exciting!

I tried the Eucarin during my last flare up but unfortunately it was like putting acid on them. I've come to the conclusion that for my eyes at least, whether it's blepharitis or eczema my best bet is to Just Leave Them Be during a flare up.

What I did try and touch wood it's working is Blephasol twice a day. I had a brief flare up recently but I'm positive this stopped it getting worse. So I'm stockpiling the stuff. Gutted though it's tested on animals Sad

I've also invested in an eye cream from Pai after reading another thread. It's ££ - although probably comparable with Clinique etc - but they do a 90 day money back guarantee if I react at all. I'd really recommend them, they do a free video consultation too.

I've been using it under my eyes with no problems twice a day and I've progressed to upper lids the last two evenings. So far so good.

Hydrocortisone is a steroid cream. The OTC one is 1%. What was the ointment prescribed by your doctor called?

My eyes have totally flared up again too. This time the Bioderma isn't working as quickly.

It's a nuisance.

My steroid ointment was maxitrol . I had to use it twice a day on eyelids for 2-3 weeks and take low-dose antibiotics for 3 weeks. As this is the fifth time in a year and only a month after the last time I got it, I don't want to take any more antibiotics. I already have taken loads this year for asthma-related chest infections.

Quick question - the Blephasol - is it the lotion? Or is there a cream? I can only find the lotion.

Affery · 25/03/2023 12:03

Ooo I had this, it went on for about a year and nothing cleared it up properly, even hydrocortisone.

My GP requested advice & Guidance from Dermatology who recommended Elidel protopic cream and it eventually cleared up for good and hasn't come back in about 6 months.

I have just been to the doctors this week after suffering for sore itchy eyes and lids for months, not very helpful to be honest, said it could only be treated by lid hygiene and advised me to see an optician - I don’t even wear glasses so don’t actually have an optician.

However a friend recommended Blepha Heated Eyebag and it’s amazing, feels much better after a few uses.

I have been using it along with the Blephasol cleansar and a dry eye gel which the doctor reluctantly did prescribe - my eyes feel and look better today than they have for months so definitely worth trying.

It's called lotion but it's actually a liquid.

I'm still - fingers crossed - doing ok with it.

I'm actually going to try using my lash curler tonight before ALSO WEARING MASCARA.

Confused hoping I'm not getting too cocky.

Weirdly I'm not having much dairy at the mo (I LOVE yogurt) so I'm wondering if there is a connection

I am currently suffering with this. It's so painful. Happens everytime I nap or sleep regardless. What I did find was no heating on overnight helped. I also use this overnight "Xailin night ointment" and it takes the edge off. Went to the doctors only just the other day. She gave me antihistamines and eye drops, yet to try it as it's been the weekend and no pharmacy near me is open and my appointment was at 5pm.

I feel you, it's awful honestly. I get upset every damn morning about it, feel and look like I've just done ten rounds with Tyson.
