Sensitive skin/rosacea skincare advice

zippyswife · 11/02/2023 15:06

Had rosacea for nearly 20 years now and had got it under control with a minimal routine of avene and almond oil. For reasons I can’t remember I stopped using avene and I think from reading reviews some ingredients have changed.

It seems to be so delicate/sensitive and dehydrated at the minute and all I’m using is almond oil but I need something to calm and moisturise which isn’t going to irritate it.

any recommendations?

La Roche Posay Toleriane.
(My phone knows that's what I'm going to say the second I do a capital L 🤣)

zippyswife · 11/02/2023 15:16

Thanks @PAFMO

is that perfumed? I tried a La Roche about a year ago and it was so heavily perfumed my skin flared up.

PAFMO · 11/02/2023 15:18

No, unperfumed. It's their range for super sensitive skin. They also do a rosacea range but I've not tried that.

WeAreTheHeroes · 11/02/2023 15:21

I use The Ordinary Azelaic acid cream and it has reduced the tiny pimples and redness.

botemp · 11/02/2023 15:34

Aveeno calm and restore triple oat serum seems to be really good for rosacea skin, very soothing and hydrating (no hyaluronic acid) that could be used under the almond oil. I think they do a cleanser and moisturiser in that range too but not sure how well liked those are. The Inkey list do a gentle oat cleanser that's popular as well.

shortpeopleproblems · 11/02/2023 15:48

I came here to say La Roche Posay Toleraine range too - it has transformed my skin completely.

zippyswife · 11/02/2023 15:53

Which tolerarine products are best to start with? The Aveeno looks good too

I use avene skin soothing cream after washing with Cetaphil and it’s been life changing but yes, they’ve definitely reformulated and it isn’t quite as good as it was and doesn’t feel as nice going on but it’s still settling my skin. I’ve tried all the roseacea versions of creams including lrp and my god they caused serious flare ups, but I’ve seen other people rave about them

zippyswife · 11/02/2023 16:03

@stayathomer yes the LRP did for me last year. Maybe I should be trying the same as you as avene was the only thing I could tolerate previously. What is the name of the soothing cream? And would you recommend the cetaphil? Is that avene too?

I have quite nasty rosacea (stage 2) but my skin tolerates Estée Lauder really well - the cream cleanser, idealist serum, advanced night repair/daywear cream. I have also found Charlotte tilsbury skin stuff good and their make up works well for me too. Maybe get some samples?

great make up base too, used to buy specialist stuff but it can be an awful base and an expensive mistake.

MallowPink · 11/02/2023 16:08

Aveeno calm and restore is amazing: I have the gel moisturiser, the serum and the cleanser and would recommend them all

Appalonia · 11/02/2023 16:22

I've found Eucerin with urea to be very good. Also have you tried it cosmetics? They were formulated by a woman who actually has rosacea.

BeansOnToast32 · 11/02/2023 16:26

Eucerin Replenishing Face Cream with 5% Urea! Been using it for years

stayathomer · 11/02/2023 16:30

zippyswife hi! Below is the Cetaphil, it’s my holy grail product and I’ve repurchased over and over again, the avene is called skin recovery cream. The new one is the tolerane version and makes me so sad because the old one was just so perfect!!! Best of luck!!!

Sensitive skin/rosacea skincare advice
Mars27 · 11/02/2023 18:33

I haven't got rosacea but I have perioral dermatitis which makes me feel like my skin is on fire sometimes. I could only use Avene (and not even all the products) so when they've changed the formula I was lost.

I've been testing so much stuff and still not quite got my routine 100% right but for cleanser I use LRP Toleriane, the Bioderma Hydrabio serum and spray Avene Thermal Water on top of it day and night.

After that for daytime is Bioderma Sensibio rich in the winter and sunscreen if I'm going out which is LRP Anthelios. In the summer same cleanser and serum but LRP Hydraphase Light or Sensibio Light afterwards, then sunscreen. I've tried the Hydraphase Rich with SPF 20 but my skin didn't quite agree with that. In the evening after cleansing and serum I use the Bioderma Hydrabio creme. Hope it helps :)

PAFMO · 11/02/2023 15:18

No, unperfumed. It's their range for super sensitive skin. They also do a rosacea range but I've not tried that.

La Roche Posay - Rosaliac Intense
Recommended by dermatologists. L-R P Toleriane for the non-rosacea bits. It's sorted me out.

QuicheQuoche · 11/02/2023 18:49

I tried the Aveeno Oat Cleanser but didn’t get on with it. The only cleanser I can use is Pai. Look Fantastic usually have good deals.

Baileyshotchocolate · 11/02/2023 19:01

I use ISClinical cream cleanser and Hydro-cool serum, along with Cerave moisturiser, it’s really helped

UthredofBattenberg · 11/02/2023 19:12

I only have it very mildly, but I found cetaphil very good.

I also found oil based cleaners to be good, I've previously used simple cleansing oil, body shop chamomile very all very gently and suited my skin. I'm using superfacialist at the moment, iys quite fragrances, but doesn't irritate me

stayathomer · 11/02/2023 19:12

Oh by the way I always use the hydrating Roche posay spf. Haven’t found anything to touch it yet but it’s getting harder and harder to find around here!!!

zippyswife · 12/02/2023 19:30

Thanks all. On the back of all your advice I’ve gone down a product rabbit hole and ordered the Aveeno triple oat serum and the La Roche hydrating spf. I’ll start with the Aveeno and add the LRP spf if all good in a couple of weeks. Really appreciate the advice. Real life BF has the same problems so she’ll benefit from your wisdom too.

La Roche Posay cicaplast, only La Roche Posay I can use apart from their sun spray which is fab

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 12/02/2023 22:37

CeraVe has all but cured my rosacea,it's amazing stuff.

Doliveira · 13/02/2023 13:58

Aveeno made me flare like crazy. LRP. Toleriane dermallergo is currently working for me, applied over mineral water spray and topped with rosehip oil.

for face washing I’m using cold water and sulphur soap. Skin doesn’t object, thankfully.

FaLaLaLoopsy · 13/02/2023 14:43

@Mars27 sorry if this is already something you've looked at, but have you tried changing your toothpaste? I had perioral dermatitis for a couple of years, and on a whim recently tried using my DC's toddler toothpaste. It has made a huge difference. Not sure if it was the reduced flouride or reduced SLS, or something else, but either way I'm sticking with it and not complaining.

OP I also have sensitive skin / rosacea and can't tolerate LRP or CeraVe, but can use almond oil. I mostly use the Cetaphil designed for eczema (a cleanser and moisturiser) and various things from the Jojoba Company, which my skin seems to really like. I find the probiotic serum is really good.
