Orange jumper and navy wide leg trousers in a short length so they look cropped around the ankle.

Do I go for trainers? Navy ballet pumps? Something else?!

Bugger I've accidentally ordered those hoff trainers now , oops

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/02/2023 18:55

Platform espadrilles don't sound right to me, sorry. Maybe with linen trousers on holiday, but not with a jumper in February!

LivesinLondon2000 · 11/02/2023 19:25

@NatashaDancing
Yes I think trainers look good. Not all trainers - I don’t like trainers that are designed specifically for sport worn with non sports-wear generally but most ‘fashion’ trainers I do like.

I agree that Espadrilles also look nice but I find them not that hard-wearing and they tend to get tatty quite quickly for me.
They’re not as good as trainers for walking around all day, doing household chores, school pick-up, dog walk etc.

QuertyGirl · 11/02/2023 18:23

beat me to it @QuertyGirl. Anything but ballet shoes (hideous yokes) or trainers or god forbid loafers.

And trainers are ugly.

I love these authoritative proclamations that ballet pumps are dated when only a few months ago Vogue, The Times and others were raving about ballet pumps.

BP can make you appear quite granny in mid life though, everything changes with context. Similarly some trainers are ugly and some are not.

Anyway OP I agree with PP that says those trousers are v cruise wear and a bit deflated, I would look for similar but more structure, which can be had in m and s if you can’t be arsed with a trawl.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/02/2023 22:45

Oh ffs - more ageist shite. I don't like ballet flats, but I do like flat black or leopard print sling-backs as an alternative. Not with those trousers though.

Not a fan of those silver ones.

KirstenBlest · 11/02/2023 09:33

I wouldn't wear the trousers cropped.
Ballet slippers are only ok if there is some arch support.

I'd wear something like NB trainers

I was thinking the same, Plantar fasciitis

Those are lovely but I will never torture my feet with another pair of Doc Martens - they were the worst footwear I've ever owned. On the other hand these Lanx and Joseph Cheney boots are a joy to walk in.

Try napa milled docs. Like the sinclair.

Comfiest boots I've ever had from first wear.

I vote trainers, ballet pumps are dated

They were dated…again. But they’re back…again. I Saw an article the other day praising ballet pumps.

But I’d go with chunky loafers if I was OP, not trainers.

I do like the colour scheme of orange top, navy pants. Perhaps dark brown loafers?

No, not risking feet or money on Docs again. I prefer the look of the Lanx and Joseph Cheney boots anyway.

Docs look good on other people, but not on me. I'm sure of course they didn't look any different than they do on other people but as well as being cripplingly painful I just didn't like seeing myself in them. I gave the Docs to a friend's daughter - she loves them and they look suit her.

Oh, I love the burgundy cheanys - gorgeous - but the price is too steep for me. The value is in the look and quality though. They look like the sort of boots that would last a very very long time and you could have repaired if needed. If I could afford them, I’d buy them in a heartbeat.

wasn’t crazy about the black boots, only because they have that fabric strip at the top, around the back. The price is a lot more accessible. But they aren’t the beautiful burgundy boots, which I’m now lusting after.

HollywoodTease · 12/02/2023 01:37

Johnisafckface · 12/02/2023 01:50

There are some mean comments here. I don’t think trainers are ugly but I would wear the flats. However I’d prefer a block heel or a wedge which I guess are out of style but I’ve never really kept up with fads

The strip on the Lanx boots is black suede.

Thanks Natasha. Suede is better. I just like ‘all the same leather’ boots.

Chrispackhamspoodle · 12/02/2023 07:49

Op I would suggest adidas gazelles or adidas campus as someone said upthread,New balance (so many good colours)nikes or a white trainer. Not navy.Ballet pumps would look good too if you like them...silver or nude or leopard print.Chunky platform loafers too.But I wouldn't wear the trousers cropped with loafers.I love wide legged trousers.

Sammysquiz · 12/02/2023 07:58

I have some Superga leather trainers in a nude colour which would work well with those trainers. A bit more muted than bright white ones!

NellietheNumpty · 12/02/2023 08:14

What about All Birds. I like the look they are comfy and have eco credentials.

Benjispruce4 · 12/02/2023 08:37

Trainers or platform loafers in winter. Or if cropped how about DMs or hi top Converse? In summer some chunky sliders.

SideshowAuntSallly · 12/02/2023 09:57

I wear wide leg trousers with trainers (suede ones and not sports ones). I don't like the drawstring on those trousers though, I think wide leg trousers can look awful if they're not tailored properly.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/02/2023 11:03

Sorry but those pale blue trainers are some of the ugliest things I’ve ever seen.

DuchessOfSausage · 12/02/2023 11:54

The pale blue trainers look like supermarket ones.
