I think my lack of style is aging me

I'm 26 but feel and look about 10 years older most days. I think besides the lack of sleep and the stress of looking after a toddler it's my lack of any sense of style that's aging me. I just seem to end up wearing the same old things: jeans, jumpers from Matalan etc and i feel like my mum!

would be v grateful for any tips on what to buy/ where to shop. just looking through the Boden catalogue and i was thinking 'would this make the problem worse or better?' see -i really am clueless!

if it helps i'm 5 ft 1, slim-ish size 10-12 but with a baby belly which just won't shift despite running and situps etc... boobs have shrunk from 34c (DD when breastfeeding) to barely 34b, so not great

My extra 2 bedrooms actually [smug emoticon].

It's not where to put them, it's trying to find a wardrobe thats large enough, even to separate out into summer and winter. Oh god I sound so contrived

Cappuccino · 07/02/2008 14:34

I do that too it does not make me Anthea Turner

mind you if I had a house the size of Anthea's I wouldn't bother putting things in vacuum space bags

but I don't

CaptainCod · 07/02/2008 14:35

nailpolish · 07/02/2008 14:37

fimbo ikea have some lovely new bedroom stuff

and pruners told me last night about the futon company - she got lovely side tables from there

Fimbo · 07/02/2008 14:38

Oh dear NP, that is a shame.

Fimbo · 07/02/2008 14:40

I heart the Futon Company. We have a store here. Tis fab.

The Ikea Pax range would do, but the never have the damn bits you need in stock i.e. you can get some of it and then they don't have the doors etc. The nearest one is a 2hr drive which is also a pain.

Thanks though!

scampadoodle · 07/02/2008 14:41

I like that jacket, nailpolish.

scampadoodle · 07/02/2008 14:43

& also meant to say to OP: you're 26 ENJOY it! My current state of mind (I'm about to be 43) is that I can no longer get away with looking daft; teens & twenties can wear whatever mad styles & it doesn't matter. i miss those times!

GrapefruitMoon · 07/02/2008 14:44

Why are black boots chavvy with jeans???

orangina · 07/02/2008 14:44

topshop not shit. book a personal shopping experience if you are near a big shop, with a friend if possible, good fun. also try french connection. monsoon a bit mumsy i think. gap a bit hit and miss but can be good.
get good accessories/coats/shoes/boots. helps a lot.

nailpolish · 07/02/2008 14:47

thats just my personal opinion, grapefruitmoon

GrapefruitMoon · 07/02/2008 14:49

But why do you think that - black goes with everything - what colour do you suggest? - just curious!

nailpolish · 07/02/2008 14:54

black doenst go with blue jeans

i wear tan boots

GrapefruitMoon · 07/02/2008 15:00

But if you were wearing a black coat wouldn't that look odd? (You'll have to make allowances for the fact that I wear a lot of black!)

CaptainCod · 07/02/2008 15:01

nailey ahs a Thing About Blakc Boots

bozza · 07/02/2008 15:09

Maybe naily doesn't do black coats? I don't have a black one atm. Although do black boots. Have some brown (more chocolate than tan) ones that I tend to wear with jeans.

I would say that if you are wearing jeans with boots you should make sure your jeans are long enough. That is my tip. Ankle boots with small block heel and jeans that are 1.5" from floor is v. mumsy IMO.

totalmisfit · 07/02/2008 15:33

largeginandtonic · 07/02/2008 16:20

Naily

I have beloved tan boots from Clarks, they are dying though. Have found none to replace them Should have bought 2 pairs,

nailpolish · 07/02/2008 16:21

my tan boots are from clarks too

largeG&T - your photos on your profile are just lovely

largeginandtonic · 07/02/2008 16:25

Aw thanks.

My boots are sort of cowboy tan with smallish block heel. They go round my calves and are so comfy. I keep looking for them on ebay
