I have reached that ‘nothing to wear’ stage and struggling for inspiration.

what is a great stylish look that is likely to be a mainstay this season?

thinking of something I can wear at weekends that looks great for going out with friends. Something casual and day-to- evening?

im a huge fan of the jumpsuit ( still love them) but just feel the need for a bit of a change!

Season0fTheWitch · 03/02/2023 22:03

If you like a jumpsuit you might like flares?

Monty27 · 03/02/2023 22:06

Thanks for the post OP. My sentiments exactly!

Timeforanewname23 · 03/02/2023 22:13

teenager/20’s in the 90’s so definitely happy flares are back…but what to wear with them? Me&em have gorgeous wide leg trousers but they’re £195!!!

so many styles from that time are back, but I also remember the stuff I hated about some stuff- like the corsets! I wore them despite looking completely flat chested in them.

Greys, camel and cream. Any combo of coat, trousers/skirt and then pullover. Classy and smart. Wide leg denim with a slim line blazer or cinched in jacket. Long sleeve fitted top underneath or fitted polo neck. Blue jeans and then muted but toning colours for jacket and top (not black). So greens, beiges, blues etc.

Timeforanewname23 · 04/02/2023 09:34

so been googling furiously…

baggy jeans
oversized blazer
metallic leather skirt

cobalt blue
apple green

still none the wiser!! 🤷‍♀️I think I need to wait and see how the high street converts these trends into something wearable!

have always been shit at everyday wear …but too many night out/party clothes. And hardly go out anymore!!

A light colour coat - cream/beige trench style. Worn over a black trousers/jumper or a medium denim look. Simple & non-fussy.

TizerorFizz · 04/02/2023 10:32

You don’t need brights right now @Timeforanewname23 and don’t wear a mini skirt if it doesn’t suit you. Don’t splash out on metallic leather! Unless it is a must have for you. Baggy jeans are better translated as wide leg. Not baggy around the backside or waist. Oversized blazers can look extreme too. Especially if you are not tall. There are plenty more in magazines with a more structured look. I would avoid solid black and navy at the moment. Try muted shades. Use a pop of colour in tops over jeans and use camels in all the shades.

MariahsBaubles · 04/02/2023 10:35

For everyday casual cool looks, rather than hunting for a specific outfit, maybe go to a brand you trust and see what they are serving up right now.
For me I would take your search to Hush.
From the things you have referenced maybe you prefer Whistles?

safeplanet · 04/02/2023 10:39

A wider trouser silhouette will update things. Or subtle flares & a blazer. Silk bias maxi/midi skirt & nice knit.

Niftythrifter · 04/02/2023 11:28

Maybe change your thinking in terms of going something fairly “classic” and then updating with on trend accessories which you will be able to pick up fairly cheaply. For example as a pp suggested wide leg jeans can be dressed up for day and night with maybe a change of top and accessories/shoes.I think John Lewis might have some in their Anyday range which is at a good price point www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-anyday-plain-wide-leg-jeans-mid-wash-blue/p6373823

I was the same, loads of going out stuff and my job has gone significantly more casual wear since covid.

I hit vinted hard. I sold a fair bit and got about £250. Shoes sold well and bags. I really emptied my wardrobe and tried to be midful when buying new stuff to buy things that actually formed outfits and co ordinated each other, where previously i had so much random shite and nothing to wear.

I like the outdoorsy/ sports casual look but am aware i need to be appropriate for my age and size. (18)

From vinted I got:

I bought a patagonia coat for £15. Small rip by pocket that i repaired and you cant notice.
Black converse boots
white converse pumps
Black chunky boots and loafers
Dogtooth wide leg oliva bonas trousers
Black wide leg m and s trousers.
Black next slim fit cargo pants.
Navy blue chinos. Cant remember where from... prob m and s.

Then I hit sainsburys TU and got:

Combat khaki trousers
Grey joggers
white joggers
Grey and white fine knit hoodies
2 fleeces, one overhead, one short jacket.
Khaki blazer

I already had black oversize blazer and white shirt. Leggings.
A Black vest and white vest top
One black and one white long sleeved t shirt.

Ive decided i look poo in dresses and my ND is triggered by tights so skirts are out. Jeans too so got rid of them.
Ive stopped wearing jewelry apart from my watch, a silver ring and silver studs.
I feel much more put together and im finding that i have loads of outfits.

I also already had an oversize denim shirt, denim jacket and some striped mens shirts.

TizerorFizz · 04/02/2023 14:19

Denim is a pretty big trend for spring. Even bags! Obviously don’t overdo it but denim is quite glam and even swishy with softer denim in wide leg styles. Dress up or down. Not a baggy jacket. Cinch it in or get a structured one.

CinderRosie · 04/02/2023 16:14

I'm pale skinned with dark hair and eyes, and I look horrendous in this seasons beige/camel coloured everything 😫 Struggling to find anything I even like

Montague22 · 04/02/2023 16:33

@CinderRosie does grey suit you instead? Might be better if you are cool toned. Or wear camel but with a black scarf.

TizerorFizz · 04/02/2023 19:25

What’s wrong with dark hair and camel tones? Looks fine on me. You can add a pop of colour. Orange, turquoise, red, emerald are all ok with camel in small amounts. It’s how you mix in the colour that counts. So a necklace. A bag. A patterned top.

Montague22 · 04/02/2023 19:26

@TizerorFizz if you are dark haired with a warm skin tone it looks lovely. If you are cool toned it can make you look ill.

TizerorFizz · 04/02/2023 19:31

I have fair skin and wearing camel doesn’t make me look ill. What a strange thing to think! Half of dark haired women cannot wear a Max Mara iconic camel coat because they look ill! Are blonds ok then?

Montague22 · 04/02/2023 19:40

@TizerorFizz maybe you have a more neutral skin tone. Wear what you like, but for some cool toned people, regardless of hair colour, sludgy muted colours are unflattering.

I know this isn’t my best colour but do wear it- with black. If I wear a red coat I get way more compliments as it does suit me so much more.

TizerorFizz · 04/02/2023 19:45

People are drawn to red. It’s a statement. The whole point about camel is that it’s not “look at me”. It’s about cut and fabric and detail.

Montague22 · 04/02/2023 19:47

I nearly didn’t say red as obviously it’s a stand out colour. Do you think there are colours that suit you more than others?
Regardless of whether camel is iconic or understated or your favourite colour, it won’t suit everyone.

good idea- should probably have a look there.

used to be a whistle’s fan for work stuff, but much more casual these days.

also love Hush for off -duty.

Im just so fatigued by what’s on offer…it’s basically my teenage wardrobe and while I do love some of it, I’m just a bit over most of it.

I think if camel doesn’t make you look ill, then you have a warmer skin tone. ( nothing to do with fairness of skin).

I look like death in camel - even though I love it on other people.

I have a friend with similar colouring to me who looks great in it.

I'm blonde and can't really wear camel as I merge with it.

Anyway, aren't bright trouser or even shorts suits the thing at the moment?

RhadamanthNemes · 04/02/2023 22:11

There are different camel shades, not really worth an argument.

Do you have a 'look' OP? Do you want a look?

If you're totally at sea, a good idea is to get on NaP or Matches, search 'straight leg jeans' or 'black maxi skirt', anything that you may already own that you might like to build an outfit around, and see how those items have been styled.

Find one you like. Take it from there.

octoberafternoons · 04/02/2023 22:24

If you like wide leg trousers, have a look at M&S. They have lots of lovely ones at the moment.
