I have reached that ‘nothing to wear’ stage and struggling for inspiration.

what is a great stylish look that is likely to be a mainstay this season?

thinking of something I can wear at weekends that looks great for going out with friends. Something casual and day-to- evening?

im a huge fan of the jumpsuit ( still love them) but just feel the need for a bit of a change!

If you can wear pink then there were pictures of several good looking pink jackets from H&M in the times today most of which would look good with denim. Alternatively a pair of wide legged trousers - M&S have some good ones which channel Me & EM or look for the Me & Em ones on ebay.

RhadamanthNemes · 04/02/2023 22:37

I would not get the M&S wide-legged side-stripe trousers. They are becoming the floral midi-dress and white trainers replacement.

I have fair skin and wearing camel doesn’t make me look ill. What a strange thing to think! Half of dark haired women cannot wear a Max Mara iconic camel coat because they look ill! Are blonds ok then?

I am a cool toned brunette and I cannot wear camel, beige, khaki or grey with yellow undertones if I want to look well and nice. I believe it’s well understood that those types of colours are not flattering on people with cool toned colouring.

TizerorFizz · 05/02/2023 11:36

Good grief! I didn’t know that. Thank God! I’ve wasted 50 years wearing the wrong colour clothes! Who knew and more to the point, who cares? Rules are there to be broken and I’m not ditching my Max Mara camel coat. Thanks for your advice though.

JackGrealishsLegs · 05/02/2023 12:05

Bit of an unnecessary tone on a style and beauty thread @TizerorFizz . No one said you had to stop wearing camel.

OP what about a long denim skirt? I’ve read in a few places that they’re going to be on trend this season. I’m wearing mine today with tall black heeled boots and a printed turtleneck. Need to decide on a jacket though!

Timeforanewname23 · 05/02/2023 12:28

@JackGrealishsLegs i think you’re onto something with the long denim skirt. Can see that becoming a real staple for me.

@octoberafternoons @londonmummy1966 going to get to M&S …I think they ( finally) have sorted themselves out! Wide leg trousers definitely on the shopping list.

I will, however take this advice on the side stripe trousers 😂

I am sooo sick of the floral dress and trainers thing. ( shame it’s so comfy) do t want to make that mistake.

agree on side stripes- I had a pair in 2018 and loved them, but they seem to have been picked up again.

So being told I don’t look well or nice wearing camel is ok then is it? Sounds like a dictator to me. I look pretty good actually. For my advanced years.

Mydogatemypurse · 05/02/2023 13:12

I love camel coloured items and some women can really pull it off. Not me though my face literally blends into the colour and i resemble an MDF sideboard.

Im a high contrast winter colouring and if i want to wear 'neutrals' then beige is completely off the cards for me, so my neutrals are; khaki, black, navy and grey.
For flashes of colour I suit jewel tones like forest green, mustard, purple, royal blue and burgundy. I dont look great in lemon, red or pink.
But tbh I think if you want to wear something you love go for it. It doesnt really matter at the end of the day.

JackGrealishsLegs · 05/02/2023 13:24

@TizerorFizz literally no one said that.

A dictator ? Come on now. Its a coat and you wear it if you want to. Its entirely up to you. She was only saying the same as others here that for some people its a difficult shade to carry off, because it is.

PumpkinSpicedTea · 05/02/2023 13:51

Thanks for the thread @Timeforanewname23 was going to post something similar!

I'm going out for lunch on Saturday with friends and struggling what to wear!

What colour of jeans go with a black blazer? Is this an outdated look? 😂 I'm so behind the times I've just recently got into jumpsuits.

CinderRosie · 05/02/2023 14:41

I’ve checked out those M&S side stripe trousers and they’re actually really nice and look so easy to wear. All sold out in black though! If it’s being done to death though maybe it’s worth a swerve. I def want some wide leg trousers trousers though to branch out of my skinny jeans!

TizerorFizz · 05/02/2023 15:19

@CinderRosie
DD has Mango wide leg trousers. Really flattering and well cut. Better fabric than M&S.

octoberafternoons · 05/02/2023 16:35

I got these black ones from M&S recently and they are great. It's hard to tell in the photos but the fabric is a ponte jersey with a bit of texture, so a slightly heavier weight. I like that they do the short/petite lengths, most other high street trousers only come in one length and are miles too long on me at 5ft3.

I’ve got some wide leg ponte jersey wide leg trousers with buttons on the front from Saint & Sofia which I love, but I’ve just today sent back a pair of wide leg jeans I tried online from John Lewis which I had high hopes for. The legs were just too big for the stiffer fabric I think. I really want some though, I find the shape really flattering.
