What have you bought recently that was worth every penny?

For me a Frandsen puffer coat that kept me warm in the very cold weather

Due to ill health Ive found myself needing all my clothes to be really soft, comfortable, warm and suitable for mostly sitting/lying around, but I was fed up with my old leggings and jumpers so I've just bought a few bits. My favourites are:

A calf length puffer coat from Tog 24. I'd been deliberating for ages as I think they can look quite sleeping-bag-esque, but I really hate being cold. In the end I decided to push the boat out a bit and it's far more stylish than any of the cheaper high st ones I tried, and it's the warmest coat ever.

A gorgeous cosy teal jumper dress from Brakeburn for just £16.50 in the sale.

Rohto Hadalabo Gokujyun Premium Hyaluronic Acid Lotion and COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence 100ml | Snail Secretion Filtrate 96% | Skin Repair Serum both from Amazon. I now spend all day looking at my skin and marvelling at how great it looks.

This red coat from Next. It is absolutely beautiful and looks far more expensive than it is.

Me too! Got compliments when I wore it a Christmas (from a tricky to please relative!)

Stoechas · 04/02/2023 15:46

@HesMyLobster thank you, that’s very kind.
No I don’t write for a living, unless you count producing endless text about pressure ulcers and the quality of bowel motions.

I wish you much joy and success and with the £3 Sainsbos blusher.

These are fabulous!

Arnt they? I've just ordered your super dry coat 🙆

@IHaveCompletedShopping your cashmere cardigan looks amazing. Johnstones cashmere is just beautiful quality.

Thank you, it really is! Perfect for a cold Sunday AM (as I thought)

This cream blush from Sainsbury’s for £3.

Never used a cream blush before and my word who knew £3 could transform me from tired corpse husk to radiant fecund maiden with just a couple of mini blobs on the face and a quick fanny about with a brush.

OK @Stoechas I have the blush, will report back! 😃

RoxieLoxy · 05/02/2023 20:40

@TokyoSushi any update on the blush? I have too many but I'll buy it if it's as good as it sounded 😀

A Dyson hairdryer.

My cheap knockoff died a death a week or so ago, and as DH has recently got a new job, I treated myself.

I. Love. It.

I have really curly hair that I've been wearing blow dried recently - this hairdryer means instead of taking an hour it takes about 30-40 minutes, and feels so much silkier. It also holds the shape much better so my hair isn't frizzing as quickly when the air is slightly damp. I've just washed and dried using the diffuser and bloody LOVE it. For the first time, I feel like it's dried my hair in exactly the shape I wanted it, locking the moisture in instead of out, and my curls look gorgeous.

So pleased. It was pricey no doubt!

@OrderOfTheKookaburra That’s really pretty.

Thank you. I've fallen in love with the label and keep buying things from them.

Do you mean it takes 40 mins to dry it? Or now it takes 40 mins to shower etc then dry it? When I used to use a diffuser to dry mine it never took so long and mine is very thick and curly. I’m interested in your lovely curls now though!

A Joseph Ribkoff evening dress that DH bought me in a sale in one of our local independent shops last weekend.

I didn't go in for a dress but DH saw it and said I ought to try it on. As an untoned and curvy 14/16 with definite bum and belly i shy away from anything remotely clingy but this is fabulous. More than a hint of old school Hollywood glamour and the integral lining holds you in in all the right places. It's a very long time since I've put something on and felt so good in it.

I'm going on a couple of cruises this year so this will be the first thing I pack. I think I'd wear it to Sainsbury's if I could!

Sooverthemill · 06/02/2023 09:45

@NeedWineNow ooh that sounds fab picture of the dress?

NeedWineNow · 06/02/2023 10:06

@Sooverthemill

It's this one.

This merino will jumper from Boden - www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/button-front-merino-jumper-trekking-green/sty-k0617-dgr

I have it in green and the oatmeal. It isn’t itchy, hangs really nicely and washes like a dream! I was worried about the frills but they actually add a really nice detail without being over the top. I have a large bust so wear a few buttons undone and it looks good - and I always think I look a mess!

Also the wide leg jeans from Boden that were mentioned earlier. I’ve gone off Boden recently but these two items have drawn me back.

I’m currently eyeing up a Borg lined hoodie from superdry as they look so cosy!

Roundthebend45 · 06/02/2023 10:22

Wool not will! 😜

A fine knit navy hooded jumper with a big cream star on the front and cream stripes on the bottom of the sleeves from Tesco-absolutely love it, and am trying not to live in it!

I actually went to Tesco to try to find this and it is GORGEOUS!!! Unfortunately they didn't have it in my size or I would have snapped it up too!!!

It doesn’t look like your average supermarket jumper does!

Speaking of supermarkets, I jumped on the bandwagon of the Sainsburys blusher-I’ve never used cream blusher before but yes, this stuff is AMAZING!
I was a bit concerned as it’s very bright pink when it comes out of the tube, but blend blend blend and it’s amazing!

Cantonet · 06/02/2023 16:34

This real techniques make up brush.
A real game changer for me, having spent years using my fingers. Used for applying foundation & concealer, plus blending Clinique Chubby Sticks contour & blush.

Hi, please can you link to the Boden wide leg jeans? Thanks.

Niftythrifter · 06/02/2023 17:53

I bought mine in the Black Friday sale and January sales so didn’t pay this! www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/high-rise-wide-leg-jeans-indigo/sty-r0269-ddn

I recently bought a Korean skincare brand serum; skin1004 Madagascar centella ampoule and I'm in LOVE. It's so soothing, calms and redness and feels very hydrating. Really good for sensitive dry skin. Also I'm literally a lipbalm hoarder and have millions but I recently bought tinted lanolips balm in rhubarb and it's lovely. When I had DC I used the nipple cream as a lip balm and it made my lips amazing but it's nice to have a tinted one. Nice texture and subtle tint.

These are the ones I have - size down as they come up large! I’m a 12-14 and got a 10 and they are great, and still with plenty of room!
