Perimenopause has given me curly hair - can I have this at my age?

I’ve given in and bought products for curly hair, scrunch dried it rather than blow dry it straight.
Ive had a mixed reaction from work colleagues (one or two quite catty comments actually).
Can I ask your honest opinion, am I too old for this?

It looks great

your colleague is a bitch- steer clear

thedevilinablackdress · 26/01/2023 21:10

Your colleague sounds like an absolute fucking idiot.

RandomMess · 26/01/2023 21:10

Love it, has movement and texture.

My hair is soft and silky, lots of it but does F all Confused

cowsaysmoo · 26/01/2023 21:12

Gosh, I wish this happened to me!
Looks lovely and you're never too old for anything that makes you feel comfortable!

feliciabirthgiver · 26/01/2023 21:13

Another vote for it looks great!

Mardyface · 26/01/2023 21:15

Why is the Diana Ross thing meant to be mean? I'm sure you could tell by the tone but... she's smoking hot?

Anyway your hair looks great. I'm trying to imagine a face that wouldn't go with it because it was 'too old' and I can't.

BubziOwl · 26/01/2023 21:16

It looks very lovely, I genuinely don't even know why someone of any age wouldn't be able to pull off hair like this though! Maybe the catty comments were rooted in jealousy

cigarettesNalcohol · 26/01/2023 21:19

Too old for lovely curly hair ?! Not at all, it looks great!

TheMildManneredMilitant · 26/01/2023 21:24

OP I'm mid 40s and mine is the same to the extent I did a double take on your photo. I've always had a bit of a wave but blow dried straight because felt a mess otherwise. However it's thinning etc so like you have tried embracing the wave recently. It's hard to get used to though so I get it.

Colette · 26/01/2023 21:28

It’s lovely !

PaperwhiteTheGhost · 26/01/2023 21:36

As everyone else has said, your hair looks gorgeous!

Hellibore · 26/01/2023 21:48

Leave your lovely hair as it is. Be less sensitive!

SueD1 · 26/01/2023 21:50

I love your hair & they are mental 🤷‍♀️

RuthW · 26/01/2023 21:50

Looks lovely. My hair has gone curly during menopause too

userxx · 26/01/2023 21:52

I'm also sporting the peri wave. I like it.

Fluckle · 26/01/2023 21:54

It looks fab, ignore your horrible colleague

But I'm amazed because I got curly hair in perimenopause too and you're the only other person I've heard have it!

With me, loads of hair fell out when I had an oestrogen crash, had to review my HRT, and the hair that grew back is curly, when it's been poker straight my whole life. If it stays curly I'll be buying a diffuser and joining you!

AftersomeAdvice234 · 26/01/2023 21:56

if anyone says that again just laugh and say jealousy doesn’t suit you.

it’s lovely - but it’s wavy not curly!

elp30 · 26/01/2023 23:43

I think it looks great!

The same thing happened to me but my hair doesn't look anywhere as nice as yours, that's for sure!

It is a totally weird thing to happen at peri-menopause. Those surprises just keep coming! But you wear it well :)

Namelesstoday · 26/01/2023 23:59

You look fab! I would swap with you any day. Enjoy your new look

melchim · 27/01/2023 00:12

The hair looks great to me! Who knew only young women were meant to have curly hair?!

EmmaEmerald · 27/01/2023 00:20

Your hair is lovely

your colleagues are weird or stupid

I normally have curly hair but recently it wants to be different every day. I'm 46, wonder if it's peri.

ByTheGrace · 27/01/2023 00:44

I was expecting you to be all Violet Elizabeth with a big bow. I can't see what on earth is the issue with your hair, it looks lovely, nice colour too. Some people are unpleasant just for the hell of it, I'd ignore.
My hair went wavy when I was pregnant, I've been meaning to try a diffuser on it for the last 20yrs!

LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 27/01/2023 00:57

You look great.

Fwiw I don’t think that sounds like an insult — especially coming from someone much younger. It sounds like it could easily have been meant positively, even if it’s come out in an awkward way. ‘Ugh’ basically = ‘omg’ and Diana Ross is famously gorgeous.

I mean as a pp said, tone is key, but surely most people are more likely to be awkward/fumble an attempt to give a compliment in a cool way — rather than actually unimpressed by your perfectly normal hair, and so nasty about it as well?

Headaches · 27/01/2023 07:51

Thanks, I’m going to keep scrunching it, If they have Diana Ross they can have the supremes too 😂

My hair has gone wavy too, more so at the back. It was completely straight pre peri. What products to you use?, your hair looks lovely.
