What works for sagging jowls?

Droopyjaws · 25/01/2023 22:45

I’ve just noticed that I’m starting to get sagging jowls and they look awful! Is there anything that helps get rid/slow them down (other than a facelift which I won’t be having!)? A magic cream perhaps?! I’ve read that collagen supplements can help but not sure how much truth there is in that. Has anyone had any success with them and if so, what brand?

Thank you!!

Lower face lift. I know that some posters aren't keen but ultimately it's all that works and gives people key visible results.

I've been doing Eva Fraser for years, and there has been no sign yet of jowls at 51. Not sure how that will last as the women in my family get them. Stable healthy weight also helps.

CACI non surgical facelift.

You need a course of about 10 to start with over 5/6 weeks then maintenance sessions once a month.

Not cheap, but 100% worth it IMO.

Karina More and Danielle Collins are the two face yoga/face toning exercise experts that I follow. I subscribed to Karina More initially and then found Danielle Collins. If you're on Instagram then you can access the demo videos on their feeds rather than paying for anything, and they're mainly titled so you can find exercises to target specific areas. I won't stop doing it now that I've started because I've seen the improvements.

My dh used to laugh at me doing the exercises but it was short lived and now he's used to me pulling weird faces as we watch tv.

Wow, thanks v much for all the replies. I’m not keen on a facelift but will definitely give the face yoga a go. Can anyone recommend/share a link?

I got a bit of filler in my jaw line which defines and very slightly lifts. It hasn’t reduced the flappy but underneath but it looks so much better.

Well I took up French horn and that got rid of them. Also plumped up my lips. And improved my lung capacity immensely.

Absolutely a win win .Jowl free and you can play the French Horn ! Fab.

If you have jowls, and not just a tiny bit of sagging, the only thing that will work is a face lift. People who have seen results using non-surgical methods are likely to either not have had 'serious' jowls, or are happy with subtle results.

If you want to go from jowls to a lack of them, you need a face lift. I'll be having one in a couple of years. I hate seeing how my face is changing (I'm 50) and can't wait to go back to a more youthful appearance.

How are we defining serious jowls?

I might try face yoga.

I tried the prai neck cream, it did nothing for me, I must stop watching these bloggers who promote cream that do nothing.

I’m glad I read this before buying some!!

to answer a pp, I’ve got just a slightly saggy face so I guess I’d like to slow down the droopiness rather than do anything drastic like a face lift. Im off too Google face yoga though to see if I can reverse what’s already happened !!

The other option is acceptance. Be proud that you are here. Embrace the fact that you Fe lucky enough to be old enough to get jowls. I've lost so many friends who didn't reach my age that I feel blessed.
Life is short. Being old is excellent. I'm more confident, more knowledgeable and more excepting. My face shows that I have lived a bit and fucking loved it!

This time last year I noticed that I was starting to get a saggy jawline and the beginnings of jowls. I started doing face yoga and within a few weeks the jowls had reduced, my jawline was smoother and the area under my chin was tighter. One of my eyelids was also starting to sag, and face yoga exercises have sorted that out as well. My whole face looks better- more defined, less bloating, better complexion- since I've been doing it. I do 15 mins a day whilst watching tv in the evening. If surgery or expensive cosmetic procedures aren't for you then I would definitely recommend face yoga.

@Droopyjaws at 41, i feel I'm getting jowly. How old are you? This sounds manageable. I have noticed my eyelids are becoming hooded also😭

Face yoga won't do much for your jowls or sagging, or cream or supplements. An electronic toning device might have helped as preventative or in the early stages, but won't do much now.

Thread lift, expensive, painful, minimal short term results. Some carefully placed filler might help. Otherwise facelift. Not many options if you want actual results.

all the people in my family with jowls have been up and down in weight always on the latest diet , the ones without have been a constant size. Incidently an old aunt with a jawline that could cut paper did yoga from the 70s and swore by face exercises so that is what I'm doing.

This is true. I can really see it in myself. I’ve always been on and off diets. Never been comfortable in my own skin due to constant comments on my weight from a young age. Now I’ve got this old looking neck and jawline to contend with. Feel I’d be as well hiding away I’m so self-conscious of it.

If you have no other options then it's worth trying the face yoga. You'll feel better if nothing else comes of it.

Face yoga… hmmm… don’t forget that’s exactly how you get dynamic wrinkles. From repeated facial movements. Also I’m not sure I’d be doing anything to stretch and pull at already sagging skin. Even if it did work, you’d have to do it a lot.

Think very carefully about this.

This is why I asked about a Nefertiti lift the other day - it is Botox around your jowl and neck area.Wondered if anyone had tried it.

Peta from Facerobics on YouTube.

You need to life the upper checks and exercise the jaw and neck to get the lift.

She looks amazing and you can see her own face improvement from the exercises.

Yes, I have heard that it's actually counterproductive.

You'd be better with the electronic toners.

Agree with poster above who said HRT. I started it last year and really dry skin lines had around mouth/chin nearly gone. Otherwise a facelift as creams do not work.

Cheek fillers can help lift the face in that area
