If your hair needs washing every day, do you wash it every day?!

My hair only looks passable on the day it’s been washed. As it take ages to dry and style, I never wash it every day. So on the second day, it will look lank and slightly greasy. I can’t leave it a third day. Occasionally I just wash the fringe and that does help.

I must be really lazy as I would look much more presentable if I just did it every morning!

Who else needs to wash their hair every day and do you?!

I have thin straight hair, if I don't wash it everyday it's really greasy! I've tried shampoos for greasy hair, even the Lush shampoo bar, dry shampoos, everything! Nothing stops that next morning grease!! It's a pain but I would say my hair is very soft and I'm so used to washing and drying it that I don't feel it's a huge chore.
Sometimes I will leave it a day if working from home but I'll still feel like it's uncomfortable on my head at that point 😂

IWasFunBeforeMum · 25/01/2023 09:04

I wash mine once maybe twice a week.

I need to shower every morning or I can't get the day started at all. My shower includes hair washing, so my hair gets washed every day.

It's shoulder length and bleached, so the professional advice would be not to wash it every day, but I can't shower without washing my hair, it makes me feel sticky and unpleasant, like I haven't showered at all.

All these videos on insta making a ritual of 'wash day' are a fat lie. I don't believe all these women have showers and don't wet their hair.

Depends. I don't, I wash my hair separately and it never gets wet in the shower. So if you're watching ones with curly hair it's probably true!
Mine is twice a week, washing doesn't take too long but the diffusing... it's a good 45-90 mins depending if I have time to finish air drying after

Yes and yes, can't stand the feeling on my scalp otherwise!

Livity · 25/01/2023 09:08

If I’m wearing it down, I have to wash it. Straight, thick hair that only looks good on the day it’s been done. I’m lazy though, so probably do that 3 times a week and wear it up on the other days.

The upside of my laziness means my hair is in good condition, as I’m not using heat on it everyday.

Absolutely can break the cycle. I did it 12 years ago and the greasiness has stayed away.

Commit to 6 weeks no shampoo, just rinse in water every day.

Yes it will go weird and sticky!

Then use shampoo every 10 days max.

Well worth it. I save a fortune in products and hours of time.

Lol

yaboreme · 25/01/2023 09:12

Twice a week max. I just don't have the time and my scalp is quite sensitive. I have long thick, wavy hair so can get away with it as it doesn't look greasy even if I know it needs a wash nobody else could tell.

I think because it's thick it's quite coarse if that makes sense, so doesn't get greasy easily.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 25/01/2023 09:12

no Grin
mainly because I'm then blowdrying again, so the ends get horribly dry while the roots remain greasy. So I use dry shampoo on day 2.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 25/01/2023 09:13

I wash it every day. Sometimes twice if i run and then go to the gym.

It used to be really long and took forever to dry. Now it's a short pixie and life is easy

IheardYouButDontWantToAnswer · 25/01/2023 09:13

I've tried washing my hair every other day, but on the days I don't wash it, it's lank and feels horrible. I'm going back to washing it daily now.

Climbles · 25/01/2023 09:16

I need to wash it everyday in the morning and sometimes again if I’m going out. Lank thin hair.
During lock down i tried to train my hair. It categorically didn’t work.

Pasadenadreaming · 25/01/2023 09:19

I wash mine daily but I do it in the evening as I like to shower in the evening after exercise. It's long and thick and air dries. I wouldn't have time in the morning for it to dry. I don't think I've ever showered and not washed my hair....I'd never be able to keep it dry and still get a proper shower otherwise!

heidihigh · 25/01/2023 09:21

I wash mine daily, I can't bear the feeling if it the second day, however my hair is very fine and gets greasy quickly. It also only takes about 5 mins to dry with the hairdryer or about an hour to air dry so it's not a massive task.

torquewench · 25/01/2023 09:27

Mine needs washing every day. It's very fine and there's a lot of it and it's lank and greasy every morning. I can manage 2 days if I use dry shampoo on day 2 but by day 3 it needs a wash. I agree with the PP saying it's BS that you can 'train' your hair. Its not like you can train any other part of your body not to sweat or produce oil.

Saying that I have a colleague who has long thick hair who gets a blow dry every 4 - 5 weeks and never washes it in between and she looks fine.

louderthan · 25/01/2023 09:49

I wash mine every day, it's very fine and gets greasy very quickly. On the upside because it's fine I can dry it in about a minute and it looks ok.

Tiffan · 25/01/2023 10:42

I'm like you OP, for it to look decent down it does need a wash and style every day but also takes a while to do.
I've just lowered my standards for day two and three and make sure I give myself time to do it well when I definitely need to.
