If your hair needs washing every day, do you wash it every day?!

My hair only looks passable on the day it’s been washed. As it take ages to dry and style, I never wash it every day. So on the second day, it will look lank and slightly greasy. I can’t leave it a third day. Occasionally I just wash the fringe and that does help.

I must be really lazy as I would look much more presentable if I just did it every morning!

Who else needs to wash their hair every day and do you?!

Every day here too, can't even wash it the night before to save time in the morning as by lunchtime it looks and feels horrible.
Super fine hair here too, my daughters is much thicker and despite her been a teenager who 'should' have greasy hair she can go much longer between washes.

Merlott · 25/01/2023 06:43

Absolutely can break the cycle. I did it 12 years ago and the greasiness has stayed away.

Commit to 6 weeks no shampoo, just rinse in water every day.

Yes it will go weird and sticky!

Then use shampoo every 10 days max.

Well worth it. I save a fortune in products and hours of time.

I leave it two days if I’m just at home on the second day but I couldn’t go any more than that!

Everyone speaks about training your hair to be less greasy but it’s a load of BS I think.

This is the same for me.

On a second day I would need to be at home only and use dry shampoo.

However, now that I am hurtling into menopause I find my hair is certainly more dry and so i can see that I might change my routine in the coming years.

ComeTheSpringLobelia · 25/01/2023 06:47

My hair is very fine also.

I have a friend with very thick hair and she swears that she only washes once a week and 'no-one notices' but I can certainly tell. Sometimes as soon as she enteres the room.

wibblewobbleball · 25/01/2023 06:49

I used to wash mine every day and then a stretch of mat leave during lockdowns got me out of the habit. I have long fine hair and find it needs washing much less now. I wear it down the first day, up on the second and third and wash morning of fourth day. Sometimes can get away with wearing it down on the second. I don't like dry shampoo it makes me itch.

macaroonsandgin · 25/01/2023 06:55

I feel like I have found my people!!

I have tried for years to ‘stretch’ between washing but ultimately my hair looks rubbish by day 3 (occasionally even by day 2).

Like a PP, I can end up feeling a bit down about it, so I should clearly just suck it up and wash it as soon as it needs it if it’s never realistically going to last longer between washes 🤷‍♀️

welshpolarbear · 25/01/2023 06:59

Hi, I've come to join your club! Every day here or it just feels horrible. I have thin, fine hair and it just doesn't last two days.

Luckily though as it's fine it's super quick to dry.

You know what, I have resigned myself to the fact that I have hair that I need to wash every day.

Otherwise it looks and feels shit and makes me feel down

All hail the daily wash!

Totally agree!
when my hair feels greasy I feel greasy and sweaty.

Grumpybutfunny · 25/01/2023 07:05

Mine could be washed everyday but I can stretch it to two with dry shampoo and a messy bun! I find changing shampoos every month helps a little

ComeTheSpringLobelia · 25/01/2023 07:07

It certainly sounds like fine and thin is the key issue!

itssquidstella · 25/01/2023 07:17

Mine needs washing every other day, but I'll occasionally stretch it to a third day if I know I’m going to the gym/for a run that evening - I wear it up and wash it after I’ve exercised.

It definitely looks better down on the day it's washed, and better up on the second/third day. Being a tiny bit greasy means it holds a messy up do better.

specialk9 · 25/01/2023 07:20

Yup. So annoying. I probably wash it 6/7 days as it's a short bob so looks awful not styled. I generally don't wash it on a Wednesday as I work from home then go straight to an exercise class. So apart from the school run I'm not seeing anyone 😂

VenusStarr · 25/01/2023 07:29

I have to wash my hair daily. Occasionally I'll wake up and its not looking too bad but within an hour or 2 it's vile - I can't brush it or touch it on the second day otherwise it's just so greasy.

I hate the smell and feel of dry shampoo and my skin is greasier on day 2 of I leave my hair. I also joined the gym in November and my head gets really sweaty so on gym days I can't not wash it.

I agree,I tried once and didn't work.

I wash every other day but really only looks great the first day.

HinnyHoway · 25/01/2023 07:37

Needs washing daily but I wash it every other day really. Sometimes 3 if I’m not going anywhere that day. Dry shampoo is a must on day 2. Can just about getting away with it down and a hair band but usually it goes up in a bun, and stays up until I wash it. Hate my hair. I wish I could be one of these people who can wake
up, brush their hair and be done. I look like Wurzle Gummage in the morning

AreOttersJustWetCats · 25/01/2023 07:41

I do most days.

I exercise a lot and sweaty hair isnt a good look.

postwarbulge · 25/01/2023 07:48

When I was in my mid-teens, I washed my hair every three days. On the first day, it was a bit fly away, the second just right and a bit greasy on the third. I became conscious of the lank third-day look and started washing my hair every other day. You can see where this is going. I got down to washing it every day and it has stayed this way for the last fifty years. As I have got older, I tried washing every other day but ti just feels yukky.

iwishiwereafirefly · 25/01/2023 07:49

I have quite fine, long hair but I wash it every morning in the shower. I did try going a day without washing it and it looked ok but I just felt 'ick'.

iwishiwereafirefly · 25/01/2023 07:50

idonotmind · 24/01/2023 21:13

it’s still disgusting on the second day so training it is a load of rubbish in my experience.

Same here

This!

If I 'trained' my hair, I'd look like I'd been dunking my head in a chip fryer. 😂

HerReputationMadeItDifficultToProceed · 25/01/2023 07:56

Mine used to need washing every single day. Then I got pregnant and got hyperemesis and spent ten weeks in hospital... that reset my hair and now I only wash it once a week, it never looks greasy now and I use dry shampoo to keep it looking bouncy at the roots.

Bit of an extreme way to sort the issue, but I can confirm that your hair really does start to clean itself 😂

merrymelodies · 25/01/2023 08:17

Dry shampoo is a godsend.

MorrisZapp · 25/01/2023 08:45

I need to shower every morning or I can't get the day started at all. My shower includes hair washing, so my hair gets washed every day.

It's shoulder length and bleached, so the professional advice would be not to wash it every day, but I can't shower without washing my hair, it makes me feel sticky and unpleasant, like I haven't showered at all.

All these videos on insta making a ritual of 'wash day' are a fat lie. I don't believe all these women have showers and don't wet their hair.

Pyewhacket · 25/01/2023 08:55

Cut my hair short during Covid as I had to shower twice a day. Much easier to manage and dries a lot quicker plus it gone all curly.

Pyewhacket · 25/01/2023 08:57

It’s gone

Snowybeach · 25/01/2023 08:59

I’m assuming everybody who washes their hair every day does it in the morning? It’s a big time commitment I find as my hair is long and thick. If I do it In the evening I let it air dry but the next day it’s clean but looks straggly so really I need to wash and blow dry it every day.
