Alternative to babyliss big hair

Jadedandlost · 22/01/2023 11:40

My old babyliss big hair has nearly had it. I love the concept but the soft bristles are hopeless for my thick strong hair and usually just flatten. I use very small hair sections. I’m looking for an equivalent with strong bristles that will really grip my hair. Any ideas? Thanks.

Can't believe no one has mentioned the revlon one step. They are always mentioned on these threads.

Good strong bristles!

Emmagr1 · 28/01/2023 16:20

I have the revlon one step and the big hair and I prefer my one step. I have long thick hair.

AttilasHuns · 28/01/2023 16:22

Another recommendation for the revlon one step!

Peridot1 · 28/01/2023 16:24

I would have recommend the One Step but sadly it fried my hair. May well have been my own fault for not using heat protection spray and not partially drying my hair before hand but it has happened to a few others too.

I've been through 2 Babyliss Big Hair stylers over the years. They both just "died" eventually.
Last year my daughter bought me a Revamp Progloss Perfect Blow Dry styler.
I'd never heard of the brand.
It's great! It's quite a bit bigger, and doesn't rotate, but I've got used to it really quickly. The bristles are much stronger and more robust, and they detangle the hair as you are using it.

i’m going to have a look at this if they have any in store next Thursday www.lidl.co.uk/c/rita-ora-hair-tools/c2624/w2. If it’s smaller than the Revlon One Step I might give it a go.

Reggiebo · 28/01/2023 17:01

Does the Lidl one rotate? I was looking at the babyliss one.

I don’t think so. It looks a lot like the Revlon brush, which I found easier to use than the rotating Babyliss. It was just a bit too big though.

Thanks.

Revlon One Step

catfunk · 28/01/2023 18:05

I loved my reckon step (it doesn't rotate though) but it really fucked up my hair as it's most effective on the hottest setting which fried my hair.
I switched to an air wrap and religiously use pureology heat spray and my hair's never been in such good condition.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 28/01/2023 18:11

I use a hair oil before using the One Step,it seems to protect it.

CoorieInByTheFire · 28/01/2023 18:37

The Dyson Airwrap has brush attachments, one is a round one like the big hair.

Notcoolmum · 28/01/2023 20:06

Revlon one step. I have the teal that was on offer for about £30.

Jadedandlost · 28/01/2023 22:47

Thanks all - I’m about to buy a one step 😊

Biggest tip to avoid hair damage is to remember it's a styler not a drier,so blast your hair with the hair drier until it's 95% dry then go over and style it with the One Step.

MiddleParking · 29/01/2023 11:16

The Mark Hill round brush attachment is so much better than either the babyliss or the one step.

Farmageddon · 29/01/2023 11:19

I really love my Revlon One Step. I just let my hair air dry for about 20 minutes or so and finish it with the One Step, which gives a smooth straight blowdried finish.
I haven't found that it fries my hair at all, but I use a heat protection cream beforehand. So much easier than trying to use a brush and hairdryer together.

Peridot1 · 29/01/2023 11:21

I think that’s the mistake I made @MrsPelligrinoPetrichor. It was fine when I did that but then I was staying at a friends with no hairdryer so used it as a dryer and it did a fab job! Lots of volume and bounce. So I did it like that from then on.

Currently trying to repair my hair but have bought the DryBar version to use after. Three time the price mind you! Someone recommended it on a similar thread a while ago.

Ooooo I wonder if there's a big difference? Can you update when you use it please?

DaysofHoney · 29/01/2023 11:57

You won’t regret a One Step! I tried it on my dry hair the other day and it worked too…!

Peridot1 · 29/01/2023 12:33

I will @MrsPelligrinoPetrichor.
