If you hate heels and have wide feet, what smart shoes do you wear at work?

My old Hamble Oak brogues are scratched and a bit shabby, plus they’re still giving me blisters three years in (I have a wide forefoot but narrow heels so they rub on the heel). I was going to buy another pair and live with the blisters, but are there any other options for a smart, conservative office? I mainly wear trousers, a mix of wide leg and skinny, occasionally a dress.

leather loafers range of styles & prices. I only buy in store as have a wide foot too.

itsnotmeitsu · 02/02/2023 22:12

My footwear these days are nearly always Doc Martens (the fleece-lined Chelsea boots are good) and Converse, or generally Birkenstock if sandals. This is after years of wearing very high heels. But now I don't take any chances about reaching the blister stage. I use blister plasters on the back of my heels before blisters have had the chance to develop. A bit of a pricey precaution but I don't have to worry about how much walking I'm going to be doing. I also carry a spare blister pack in my handbag and in the car. I really ought to buy shares in Scholl. I find even the comfiest footwear can still rub in certain places.

I've got these in the extra wide and have the same wide foot narrow heel problem. They are very comfortable and look smart for work, with black trousers or a work dress

I wear Fly London or Art Company shoes when I have to look smart. Otherwise I live in Birkenstocks

Unigoat · 02/02/2023 22:56

I struggle to find smart shoes for work due to wide feet. I tried next, m+s and hotter but non fit well. I went into schuh the other day to have a look and the assistant showed me these. They are the most comfortable shoes I've tried in ages just unfortunately not my style.

I'm the same, wide feet narrow heels and can't keep Hamble Brogues on, also can't wear even a low block heel for work (I can manage heels for a night out but not all day), so a lot of these wouldn't work for me. Fortunately I can get away with clean white trainers in summer. I keep getting ads for Sargasso and Grey in my FB, do they fit true to size?

I wear Ecco Chelsea style boots. £140 ish but worth every penny.

WinnieFosterReads · 02/02/2023 23:38

Loafers and low wedges. Wonders are so comfortable. I love them and they last for ages.

Wonders flat shoes

tempforquestion · 02/02/2023 23:41

Russel and Bromley loafers. Expensive but last years. (I've got the children's before as go to a size 6)

WhatsitWiggle · 02/02/2023 23:44

What about Ecco? Not cheap but so comfy.

greenspaces4peace · 02/02/2023 23:52

i've not tried them but Sole Bliss shoes for women are recommended for wide feet. solebliss.com/
as well as Vivaia www.vivaia.com/category/collection-c_394.html
my vivaia shoes arrived last month and i like them, comfy wide and perfect color for my need.

maryso · 03/02/2023 00:03

Not sure if this has been mentioned already; my first thought is that there must be some jobs that need staff to be comfortable while on their feet a lot and also look "glam" and an obvious one is airplane staff. Perhaps google what they wear and surely a fair few will have wide feet, too?

FiandB · 03/02/2023 08:16

Have you ever tried the brand 'Heavenly Feet' ? They're fantastic for wide feet. I've worn them for years in lots of different styles.

Optionally · 03/02/2023 13:38

The Next ones and Vivaia look good. Has anyone tried Vivaia, do they run true to size? I’m tempted to order some, but a bit worried that they will only work bare-legged and not with socks. It’s far too cold for bare ankles!

@Optionally i just bought my first pair and they were true to size. Bought online.

greenspaces4peace · 03/02/2023 17:36

i ordered for bare legs or thin nylons. Certainly not socks.

FelicityFlops · 03/02/2023 17:48

Think! ankle boots and Peter Green flat with laces up the ankles, if that makes sense.
If I want to wear heels I have Högl courts or Gabor Comfort ankle boots.

LadyEloise1 · 03/02/2023 18:16

@greenspaces4peace
Where are the Vivaia shoes from please ?
Are they European, UK or US?
The reason i ask is customs and delivery charges here in Ireland.

I've ordered some boots that are coming in the next few days. I'll let you know!

FurAndFeathers · 03/02/2023 19:19

Toms, brogues, smart trainers or ballet flats

flat ankle boot, flat calf or knee boots (groundies or timberlands)

LadyEloise1 · 03/02/2023 20:59

Thank you @greenspaces4peace
Because of Brexit ordering from the UK can be problematic - high import duties, VAT etc Sad
But they might have an EU department iykwim. Some UK companies, like Boden and Seasalt do, which makes it easier to order from them.

pigpinkstockings · 08/02/2023 03:31

Vivaia boots arrived. They are too big, I'm between a 39-40 and ordered the 40 which is huge. They are super comfy, like pulling on soft socks and the sole seems to be padded. I'll keep the right size. If the shoes are like this they will be very comfortable, like slippers. My other shoes and boots are mostly high end brands but I'm more than happy wearing these style wise, they are exactly what I need. There was no import tax, they came from uk.

AmoebicSquid · 09/02/2023 08:18

Just ordered these from Clark's

www.clarks.co.uk/c/Orinoco2-Edge/p/26166752

Bought online and delivered to store they came in at £67
