Le mer eye cream - talk me down please

PeanutJellyAndButter · 18/01/2023 23:20

I currently have a pot of Le Mer eye cream in my basket. This is hugely expensive.

I need you all to talk me down. It’s not going to change my puffy eyes and dark circles.

I have generally good skin and no wrinkles for 40ish. I don’t like wearing make up and concealer under my eyes makes me look older, so do like good skincare.

I really want to get it. I’m sure I will look fresh and young again if I use it.

I’m just so tired after the holidays and feel so grey and lacklustre.

A haircut will be cheaper and probably make me look better.

should I just buy it???

Pulling up a chair and grabbing my popcorn to see how this pans out...

Have you tried a tester to know if you like it?
I'm really intrigued whether these top dollar products deliver

Do they now have testers for La Mer? Years ago I tried to get a tester because I am allergic to a lot of things and didn’t want to spend a lot of money only to find I couldn’t use it. I was told that La Mer did not do testers.

Even if it worked I could no longer afford it now, anyway. But id like to get a tester just to see what the cream feels like on the skin. For the price it would want to feel marvellous.

I stupidly went through 2 pots ! Didn’t do anything, waste of money.

I have really good skin for my age and my recommendations for skin products are Weleda Skin Food and Lush’s Full of Grace serum bar. Very cheap, very effective.

If your eyes are puffy then you need a light cream/gel rather than something rich. Also a highlighter like touché eclat will only make you look worse. For puff and bags you need a non light reflective concealer just slightly darker than your foundation so it gives the appearance of a shadow, therefore hiding the puffiness. A light reflective concealer/highlighter is good for dark sunken eyes, cheekbones and brow bones.

Try an eye cream with caffeine in it for puffy eyes. I have a Boots own brand one which is amazing! I think the ordinary and inkey list also have some.

yousmellnice · 19/01/2023 07:06

If you really want an eye cream try a cheaper eyecream

DILLIGAFQUEEN · 19/01/2023 07:15

I use a Paula's choice omega 3 eye cream in the morning and a medical grade retinol that's especially for under eyes 3/4 times a week at night. The Paula's choice was around £10 and the retinol more expensive at £40 but I have had it ages.

OverTheHillAndDownTotherSide · 19/01/2023 07:19

Puffy eyes can be diet related. (Mine flares if I have too much salt or sugar.)

Hang onto the dosh and monitor what you’re eating for a while. See if a cleaner diet works.

RiverSkater · 19/01/2023 07:39

Caffeine serum from The Ordinary,

And tap around your eye socket every mourning and evening,

Boshi · 19/01/2023 07:39

There are la mer eye cream samples on eBay, try those first

get an ice roller, Costs a few quid but works really well for puffiness.. you put it on the freezer and roll around your eyes in the morning

ClaireEclair · 19/01/2023 07:42

My friend tried it in an shop once and said she instantly looked better. Sorry. Not what you want to hear. She didn’t buy it though.

janeeyreair · 19/01/2023 07:52

@NCembarassed that has really good reviews, I might try that. I have tried that range before and did like it.

janeeyreair · 19/01/2023 07:55

Meant to add I have used the la mer face cream and whilst it is lovely I didn't really notice a difference. I also use the Nivea sensitive night cream and the results are the same.

The la mer body scrub is amazing though, it leaves your skin sparkly and smells lovely.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 19/01/2023 07:55

If you're not against aesthetic treatments I'd get tear trough fillers over a cream tbh.It works and lasts a year before needing a top up.You can google results

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 19/01/2023 08:11

I use Gallinee eye cream which does smooth everything out a bit. I've tried a few over the past decade and this one is my favourite. They claim that it reduces darkness under the eyes, but my under-eye isn't especially dark so I can't tell whether is does or not. I particularly like that it's in a little tube rather than a pot, it's a bit of a pain having to keep cleaning an applicator before taking cream from a pot in order to keep the pot bacteria-free.

Stickmansmum · 19/01/2023 08:14

Don’t. None of it works. None of it. And I’m sorry but I laughed a bit at ‘medical grade serum’. Of all the nonsense!

Backstreetsbackalrightdadada · 19/01/2023 08:23

Ok fancy creams I have bought:

  • le mer
  • la prairie
  • augustinus bader
  • Chanel, dior etc

they’re all the same - heavy, smelly, goopy… I bet they work wonders for some people. Not for me (thought A Bader was nice but too pricey for it).

For general moisturiser (at home) this is a BLESSING… CeraVe Moisturising Cream (big white tub). In the day I use La Roche Posay non shine stuff.

for eye cream (at night) I like La Roche Posay redermic retinol yeux (in a little squeezy tube). It really helps with my lines and I look much better using it.

At night I wash my face with Cera Ve face wash, do Retinol A serum and then night moisturiser…

Anyway totally going to snoop on this thread for tips on other products!

The boring bit… healthy food, fresh air (clean air!), good sleep and exercise are the best. Drinking water constantly!! And sticking to a skincare routine, doesn’t work unless you’re strict.

Backstreetsbackalrightdadada · 19/01/2023 08:24

Also good genes :( I have terrible genes and look haggard and ten years older than I am! Everyone always thinks I’m tired when I’m fine!

TheVikingGirl · 19/01/2023 00:14

This stuff has been miracle working for me, spenny but lasts as a little goes a long way. I cannot live without it now! My make up used to crease in my lines - not anymore!

IS Clinical youth eye complex

I had a sample of this a few years ago and I remember being surprised at the difference it made.

I'd forgotten all about it, so off to buy some now!

TheFormidableMrsC · 19/01/2023 08:29

Inkey List caffeine eye cream. Marvellous stuff and as cheap as chips. Don't waste your money.

TheFormidableMrsC · 19/01/2023 08:31

Also get yourself a good, light reflecting concealer. Again, doesn't have to be expensive. My favourite is Bourjois Radiance Reveal.

Scarling · 19/01/2023 08:32

That eye cream gave me bad milia under my eyes. Haven't had them before or since I stopped using it.

SuburbanCrofter · 19/01/2023 08:36

I remember the late great Anita Roddick saying in her autobiography that there are only three things that skincare products can do - cleanse, polish and moisturise. Nothing else. And that skin is waterproof - nothing can 'penetrate' it.

Reclining · 19/01/2023 08:39

Apparently there's no difference between eye creams and moisturisers

marmaladepop · 19/01/2023 08:56

I remember Ulrika Johnsson humming and hahing about the justification of spending £100 on this years ago. She has not aged well 🤷‍♀️
