Are light therapy masks worth it?

Have you noticed a difference and how long did you use it for before it was noticeable? I want it for general skin tightening and redness.

Which is the best mask to go for?

Meant to say thank you!

I have had the current body LED mask for about 2 years, used regularly my face is brighter more even and no redness.

@WildFlowerBees have you noticed a reduction in wrinkles?

Fortunately I don't have many (I don't think!) although mid forties now my eyes have begun to be a bit crinkly! My skin over all looks smoother, I get hormonal breakouts sometimes and find it calms the inflammation.

I do try and take good care of my skin and my friends often comment on how 'fresh' I look.

Travelplans · 19/01/2023 18:22

Haha lucky you, I was okay until I had my second child!

SameToo · 19/01/2023 18:31

@WildFlowerBees thank you.

@Travelplans no worries! Ask away! I’m also interested.

I'm also shamelessly place marking for any recommendations. I like the sound of these but want to know if they actually work.

Lolreally · 19/01/2023 18:53

Led light therapy definitely does work clinical studies done. But tgey need to be at the correct wavelength so the red light needs to be 630nm - 640nm and blue 315nm that is the wavelengths proven to work. Red is for anti ageing blue for anti redness and breakouts.

SameToo · 19/01/2023 19:09

Thanks @Lolreally thats really helpful.

SleekMamma · 19/01/2023 22:09

Yes they do. But you need to use it regularly. And it needs plenty of led lights.

PAFMO · 20/01/2023 06:22

Apparently they do work.
I wish some of the people who put the before and after pics up would use the same light and facial expressions though! (There are lots of them on Nadine Baggott's FB group- but invariably the before pic has them with mouth turned down, frowning and no makeup, and the after they are made up, smiling and clearly have an enormous ring light in front of them!)
They do work though- not sure to what extent.

SameToo · 20/01/2023 12:22

Thanks @SleekMamma

I agree @PAFMO its misleading. If I’m spending that amount of money I just want to know realistically what I can expect.

Lolreally · 20/01/2023 12:31

@PAFMO I love an unbelievable before and after pic 😂😂😂😂.
I believe facebook stops businesses from posting them (if the system catches them).
If its any consolation they post the same before and afters in professional beauty groups and the professionals seem fooled by them too. All clamoring to know what was used etc.
I want to say lighting, makeup and facial expressions obviously 😂.
As to what extent they work it depends what you need.
Tbh I think if anything but surgery/fillers had a profound effect the rich and famous wouldnt have surgery/fillers they would use other lower risk methods.

SleekMamma · 20/01/2023 13:30

Well I saw a difference when I used the mask nearly every night for a week. Suspiciously more plumpy skin, less spotty, just more even and very fine lines were less.
Which makes sense, as the red light is supposed to make more collagen. So more structure under the skin will be pushing it up, and so less wrinkles.

I'm keeping going in case it really does work, worth the time investment. Get to listen to a podcast and it freaks out my family so I'm left alone

BlueBlueBlueWinter · 20/01/2023 13:30

I have the Dr Dennis Gross one and love it. Bought it more because of breakouts than wrinkles after seeing my friend's amazing acne-free skin after using it for 3 months. Not sure about the anti-wrinkle properties, as that side of my skin is pretty good, but definitely cleared up my acne-prone skin.

Farmageddon · 20/01/2023 13:39

I recently bought the Currentbody face mask and the neck thing. I'm not expecting miracles, but so far when I use it my face looks a bit brighter and there's less redness.

I did a bit of research into what red light (about 630nm) and infra red (about 830nm) can do. Over time they can increase collagen production by stimulating the fibroblast cells in our skin. They can also apparently reduce redness and improve wound healing. And there is no down time or injury to the skin. Blue light (about 450nm) is only really good for acne, as it kills the bacteria that causes breakouts.

Dermalux is a well known brand in the US that make the large LED machines for dermatologists offices and stuff. They make the Omnilux at home mask (which is hard to get in the UK and Ireland and really expensive). As far as I'm aware, CurrentBody and The Light Salon use their technology so are pretty identical, even in terms of the number of lights.

As for using the mask, I found it a bit uncomfortable at first, but not too bad. I know people say they can walk around and carry on as normal with it on but I found the lights too bright and distracting, so I lie down, put the black goggles on and close my eyes. It's only 10 minutes so it's fine.

SameToo · 24/01/2023 19:08

@SleekMamma which one are you using?

I got the Dennis Gross one for Christmas and can see results already. I didnt have a ton of wrinkles but my forehead looks smoother and crows feet aren't as noticable. Also look more 'glowy' if that makes sense. I use one cycle of the red lights then one of the red/blue combo per day.

Gingerodgers · 25/01/2023 03:28

I also got the Dennis Gross for Christmas, and within a week, I asked my daughter if she could see any difference. She asked what makeup I had on. She was shocked when I said zero, and she replied by saying’ wow, it’s definitely made a difference then’ I’m 54, and my daughter is a makeup/ skincare fanatic

StarsSand · 25/01/2023 04:37

I've had one for a month and I haven't noticed a massive difference yet.

Agree with above, do your research- some of them have a lot of lights but they are the wrong wavelengths etc and don't do anything.

theatrical · 25/01/2023 13:39

The Dennis Gross masks are over £400 and I can't see any in stock anywhere.

What other models are people buying?

Spring23 · 25/01/2023 13:41

Following - I bought the MZ Skin one, not the new £600 one the cheaper original 5 light one that was on offer...

I'll let you know - definitely still getting hormonal acne, fine lines etc. Skin could do with a boost!

Spring23 · 25/01/2023 13:41

I got the MZ skin £379 one for £288 on currentbody a few days back...

Emeralds23 · 28/12/2023 16:00

Just giving this thread a nudge, as I'm conseridering investing in one. Be interesting to hear how you're all getting on.

SurpriseSparDay · 28/12/2023 17:02

A relative of mine received a Solaris Lab LED Hair Growth stimulating brush for Christmas. I was intrigued as it’s such a cute looking thing. The online reviews seem mixed but more positive than otherwise. Too soon to tell if it will make any difference to her hair, but she said she’s enjoying the head massage function.
