That little lid inside the pot of moisturiser

Do you keep it? I got given a fancy jar of elemis cream and it's got a lid inside the lid if that makes sense? Am I meant to keep it and take it on and off each time?

I think so much it annoys me and I drop it all the time creamy side down so I just dispense with all of mine.

Personal choice really, if you aren't a butterfingers like me then keep it, can't do any harm.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 15/01/2023 22:22

I don't but mainly because I constantly drop it and like buttered toast it always lands with the surface that goes back in the pot, facing down. So I'm guessing it's a hygiene thing but probably causes more to get in my potsGrin

You probably are less clumsy than me!

Enjoy using your lovely new cream.

Yes, at the moment I'm unscrewing the lid then holding the lid with one hand while trying to get the cream off the lid so I don't waste any but then I need my hands to apply it to my face really!

Enjoy using your lovely new cream. thank you I know it sounds silly but it is the fanciest cream I've ever owned and those few minutes to myself are so relaxing.

Called a shive and used to ensure formula stays fresh and can be assigned a longer shelf life. Agree they are irritating!

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 15/01/2023 22:46

On a similar, but not quite so related note, what are you meant to do with the piece of parchment that comes in tubs of butter?

I hate the idea of sticking it back down to the butters surface after every one in the house has had their hands on it, but every one else insists it makes the butter last!

DH folds it back from halfway and then I come along and throw it in the bin.

Motelschmotel · 15/01/2023 22:51

I didn’t know you were meant to keep either thing!

the moisturizer thing is always plastic, which is is annoying enough. Your pot will have a symbol on it telling you how long it will stay ‘fresh’ for after opening. It looks like a stubby round pot with the lid lifted up at an angle, and will say 6M or 12M (6 months or 12 months). None of my moisturizers last 6 months, so I throw the inner lid away.

Butter barely lasts two weeks in my house, going off isn’t a concern 😂

(Mayne I should use butter on my face instead of moisturiser 🤔)

Tallulasdancingshoes · 15/01/2023 22:54

I chuck them both out - the moisturiser lid and butter cover. Both far too annoying to be bothered with.

Petrarkanian · 15/01/2023 22:55

I use the butter paper to grease baking tins.

The plastic lid is annoying and such a waste.

IcakethereforeIam · 15/01/2023 23:18

On a similar vein, does anyone keep the foil on open tubs of philadelphia and other cream cheeses, or bin it and just use the plastic lid.

I use moisturiser from tubes (but I want a posh one now) and I immediately bin the marg paper.

Notsurenotquiteright · 15/01/2023 23:42

I keep the foil, I keep the butter paper and the plastic moisturiser cover.
they all annoy me but I often do things that annoy me

HaddawayAndShite · 15/01/2023 23:46

Keep the foil, throw the paper and the plastic. No idea why the foil doesn’t irritate me as much, plus left over soft cheese gets that weird juice on it so the foil helps keep it contained.

NewNameForXmas · 16/01/2023 00:05

Argh that is delicious stuff!

Daffodilsandtuplips · 16/01/2023 00:12

I bin the lid and the butter paper, keep the foil.
The little disc over the top of milk. DH peels it off carefully then places it inside the milk bottle lid, he reckons it keeps the milk fresh and stops it absorbing odours from food in the fridge.
Right, what do we do about the boxes tin foil comes in. I end up chucking them across the room when it mangles the tin foil in mid tear.

Nat6999 · 16/01/2023 00:13

Jimmyneutronsforehead my mum rips it off & bins it, that does my autistic sensibilities no good as I always smooth the foil back over the butter before replacing the lid carefully. I've had to leave the kitchen before now as it winds me up so much.

Monty27 · 16/01/2023 00:17

I scrape the lid across the jar and wipe the residue on my face and bin it 🤭

IcakethereforeIam · 16/01/2023 00:26

@Daffodilsandtuplips I think the thing on milk is just to stop it leaking. Does he do the same with jarred spices? That would make more sense for his reasoning.

I keep the foil on soft cheese other than philby because the lids aren't sturdy and I think it stops it drying (how it can be wet and dry out is one of life's mysteries).

@Nat6999 you have my sympathy. I'm not, AFAIK autistic, but if I use foiled butter I'd probably bin the foil immediately because sooner or later it'd be dented, torn and crumpled and I don't want to see that.

Which has just reminded me that piercing the foil on a fresh jar of coffee is one of the small pleasures that makes life worthwhile. Which sucks, because I mainly drink tea and I'm not a fan of instant coffee anyway!

Odalisque · 16/01/2023 00:35

"DH folds it back from halfway and then I come along and throw it in the bin."

made me laugh so much as is exactly what happens in our house.

Small lid in moisturiser - bin
Butter/Marg film - bin
Philadelphia foil - leave
Milk lid - bin. People who just tear a bit off are savages who can't be trusted.
Tin foil box - bin

MistyRock · 16/01/2023 03:44

Keep the moisturiser plastic lid, if you go somewhere overnight (and take your cream) you'll regret it as the cream will get all stuck in the actual lid and make a real mess.

QueenSmartypants · 16/01/2023 04:33

The shive.
Is it pronounced sheev or like hive?

Who only peels part of the milk back? That is pure evil!

@QueenSmartypants sounds like hive. The shelf life logo for 6M or 12M etc. will have been defined with it on there. Shive still seems common place for jars likely as a foil seal is a more difficult packing process. That said I always chuck it. As to butter paper whhhhhhhhy just doesn't make sense....
