Hi.. just that really. I'm interested in having a boob job and Turkey is cheaper.

Anyone have any stories?

Sadly yes I do, someone I knew about 20 years ago. Went wrong, had an infection. I felt for her as if my understanding of her circumstances was broadly correct, it was not easy for her to find the money.

Personal opinion was that there was nothing to be unhappy about with her figure beforehand, not that I was in her shoes of course. Out of respect for her privacy have never discussed it with her or anyone else.

Oh no that sounds horrible.
I admit there is no medical reason for wanting this surgery. Its just to make me feel better

There's currently one in the papers where the woman is complaint that they exploded when she got back to Uk

PumpkinDart · 11/01/2023 20:22

My friend has hers done a couple of years ago, she was very happy with the results and said she got attentive care whilst staying out there. I have read other less positive stories but my friend is the only one I know personally to do it and she was pleased with the outcome.

I can recommend Lithuania over Turkey.

Raspberry290 · 11/01/2023 20:22

My mum’s friend had one done in her 50s. She developed an infection and lost a large some gangrenous breast tissue

Decorhate · 11/01/2023 20:24

Someone in my family went to Turkey for a different operation. They died. I really would not go there.

Sugaspunsista · 11/01/2023 20:28

Oh no these all sound terrible!!!

JustFrustrated · 11/01/2023 20:29

Turkey is renowned for being awful..

Like I say, Lithuania is the best. Far superior care to the UK.

Stressfordays · 11/01/2023 20:30

My friend had the 'mommy make over' and looks amazing! She said they were fantastic and had no issues.

Sugaspunsista · 11/01/2023 20:35

Do you know of a specific company??

Are you referring to getting implants or just a lift?

I would read up very carefully about aftercare and lifetime replacements- regardless of where you have it done. My understanding is that if its implants you want- they need to be re-done every 10yrs or so- even the ones done in the UK. You therefore need to ensure you have the life long funds to support this ongoing requirement. Obviously- a clinic, especially an overseas one, likely won't mention this, so please do your own research on this.

Maybe others on here can advise how true this advice still is also.

That's not true, it's outdated advice.

I'm off to Turkey next week for a different surgery. It's one of the top destinations in the world for medical tourism, so feeling pretty confident in the choice. Research your surgeon carefully and make sure you know what the aftercare situation is.

Not necessarily that they need to be done every 10 years, but most implants come with a 10 year guarantee which is where I think it gets confused. All that means is that if the implants were to fail within 10 years, the manufacturer would supply a new set as a replacement. However the bulk of the cost with implant surgery is the surgery itself so a pair of free £400 implants would be all you would get is they were to fail. So implants can last a lifetime, but most only have a 10 year guarantee. I think when I was researching my surgery there was one brand of implants that had a lifetime guarantee but what I'm trying to say is it's not worth much as you will still need to cover the extra £4k for the surgery lol. Mine are going strong over 10 years later and no plans to get them redone any time soon. With age and wisdom now I sometimes ponder what they will look like when im 60 (im thinking snooker balls in long socks lol) or what will happen when I have to have a mammogram when the time comes, will they get damaged etc, but at the moment it's 13 years later and they still look and feel the same.

You’ll be fine , I had procedures done and always happy with the care and outcome. Good luck

Some Turkish surgeons have been registered and have even worked in the uk. Some have international reputations as they are excellent. The key is to go by reputations and not be guided by the cheapest possible price or shiny special offers. Gozde hospital and APERA spring to mind. My sister had her stomach bypass and then the entire flappy extra skin removal thing done 18 months later. She used those two hospitals and she was delighted with the standards and hygiene. She said it was better than anything the NHS could offer ( she's a HDU nurse of 28 years).

You can get medical surgical travel insurance specifically for this sort of thing. Should anything go wrong in the first year and a Dr says you need a repair/fix/treatment due to negligence then they pay your costs to return. From what I can gather, They don't cover shoddy back street surgeons.

RogersOrganismicProcess · 11/01/2023 21:12

We used to live there. DS was ill and admitted to hospital on the Friday by the Wednesday the bedding still hadn’t been changed. Our room mate left and was quickly replaced by another sick child. Between children the bedding still wasn’t changed! Grim, not to mention dangerous.

Girlintheframe · 11/01/2023 21:17

Someone I know has not long returned from having her 2nd boob job. Think it was to replace the implants due to age. She said they were fantastic, great aftercare too. She's has no problems. Honestly they look fantastic and the scar is very tidy.

MisgenderedSwan · 11/01/2023 21:21

I know several people who recently have had many problems with following surgery in turkey. If you do run into problems, aftercare can be an issue as you cannot easily see the consultant again.

I would recommend seeing a British consultant in a private hospital - it's not much more expensive and there is proper aftercare with high standards and accountability.

bloodyplanes · 11/01/2023 21:21

Mn is not the place to ask as apparently Turkey is full of unqualified butchers for surgeons and everyone gets an infection et etc! Obviously this is absolute rubbish! I have had two surgeries in Turkey myself and i have had a fantastic experience! The hospital made our NHS hospitals look positively primitive and I actually had more pre op tests than I would have had done here in the UK. The aftercare was also fantastic. I am a fully qualified HCP so i know what im talking about. The only downside was having to endure a flight home while still sore rather than just a quick car journey, however at less than half the price the surgery would cost in the uk it was so worth it! My advice would be to do your research properly and talk to previous patients! I plan to go back in the future for another op!
