What’s going on with Boden?

HUUUUGE sale that has gone on for weeks and weeks. Very little new stock. Reminds me of recent events at Joules… Does anyone know what’s happening?

Finding it hard to think that their original target market wouldn't suit pink or yellows. I have a pink and white girlfriend who suits both.

BelenaConhamHarter · 08/01/2023 16:11

They've strayed way too far from their original concept.

I don't want to look like Heidi thanks.

CoffeeBoy · 08/01/2023 16:13

Interestingly I saw a style of cardigan I liked there, but only available in lemon, pale pink or bright pink. And I actually thought what a shame it isn’t available in blue or green or even pale brown as I’d have bought it.

Waterfallgirl · 08/01/2023 16:57

Talking of frills wtf is this www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/tulle-shoulder-jersey-top-deep-forest/sty-t1062-mos?cat=C2_S2

Antst · 08/01/2023 17:05

@Waterfallgirl, it's one of the many Boden tops that those of us who don't like showing off our upper arms will have nothing to do with! But ridiculous or not, if the sleeves were a little longer, I'd have to consider it because there's nothing else better that won't drain my bank account in a colour that's normal.

DuchessOfSausage · 08/01/2023 17:14

@Waterfallgirl , I like it

'They stopped the Boden girls knickers in any size larger than 11/12. I’ve got teens trying to fit into them still as no other knicker is a comfortable or as indestructible in the tumble dryer'
Yes they are brilliant. I wish they still did the larger sizes because I wear them as an adult but obviously can't buy them anymore. Sad.

About 10 years ago Boden briefly did some of their tops with a long length option. Only lasted a couple of seasons. My height is all in my torso, and I loved that option. Along with quality, cut and styling, I guess it didn't make enough money to pay its way.

A golden era indeed @IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads

whitesnowflake · 08/01/2023 17:36

I agree with @Tangelo about the cashmere. I bought a couple of cashmere cardigans at least a decade ago, really nice weight, lovely little buttons, still look as good as new. Going by their quality and longevity decided to buy another one a couple of years ago and the cashmere looks so cheap looking and thin and the buttons are horrid. I can see the original 2 outlasting the newer ones.

schratching · 08/01/2023 17:45

Yeah. Everyone's skint lol

That's the nicest top I've ever seen in Boden! I would actually wear that.

Makes a change from the hideous Breton short length tops and tunic dresses.

I’ve messaged Boden repeatedly to beg for a reintroduction of the larger sizes. Every year the comments under reviews are requesting larger sizes. an age 15/16 could probably accommodate an adult size 10?

I'm very sad about the demise of Boden. I bought a Velvet coat from them about 15 years ago and only finally got rid last year when the light had faded the Velvet. But all the stitching etc was still immaculate inside. Bought a 2nd hand Boden velvet coat on Vinted and, again, it's such good quality.

Per Una on Hallucinogens Brilliantly put!

mummabubs · 08/01/2023 23:18

I've literally just bought from Boden for the first time thanks to the evil that is Facebook targeted advertising. Saw a dress I really like so have ordered it, it's 'on sale' at £32, which seems fair for what it is (rrp £80, which is mad). I felt excited that I may have stumbled upon a new clothing grotto as I don't really feel I have anywhere to shop anymore... But even scanning the rest of the sale it all felt a bit meh. Reminded me a lot of Joules. Fingers crossed the one dress is nice at least!

ballroompink · 09/01/2023 09:27

I have definitely noticed the weird and impractical colourways going on. There have been a couple of plain skirts I've liked there recently. I don't want navy as I own a lot of navy already. But the other options - neon orange, neon pink, white, etc. So few people can actually wear these colours and they barely go with anything! I think they're also definitely trying to ape Sezane but the styles end up looking a bit 'off'.

Sparrow80 · 09/01/2023 14:20

Oh god all of this! I used to covet so much Boden stuff and had built a lovely collection of dresses, often in brand new condition from eBay. Now I can afford it there’s nothing I want 😵‍💫. I’ve also lost quite a bit of weight the last year which would be great but now my lovely dresses don’t fit … and I can’t find anything I like anywhere 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ If I turned up to work in those frills and colours I think they’d be worried for my wellbeing 😂🤨

RockaLock · 09/01/2023 15:10

Agree with all the comments about colours.

It's either navy, black, or something (imo) hideous.

I often wonder why retailers (ALL retailers, not just Boden, tbf) can't make sure that they do an item in at least one warm and one cool colour.

So many times, I've loved a top or a dress, but haven't bought it because it's only available in cool colours, and so would look terrible on me.

This is of course ignoring all the horrific patterns that are out there at the moment(!)

It's about the shade, not the colour per se. As someone with typical "Celtic" coloring (mousy hair, pale skin, green eyes), I am fine with dusky pinks or pinks with a little brown or beige in them. But bright sharp pinks like this one www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/sleeveless-fit-and-flare-wild-watermelon-pink/sty-d0532-pnk?cat=C1_S2_G4 and salmon pink look awful on me.

Having said that, looking at the site now, they seem to have backed off the very bright colors for now. But everything is either frilly or bulgy, with weird waistline tucks or floppy balloon sleeves

Love their coats. I've got two. The green faux fur with the big buttons and the gorgeous purple Teddy coat. Both beautiful quality.

HobnobsChoice · 08/01/2023 14:30

Ah yes, I see their notes say she is a size 14. She looks so fed up in that dress. To be fair if I was dressed as if I was about to do the cancan I'd look annoyed too. It's just so fussy!

It's the chest part that gets me. It's so clingy in the boob area. I was like wtaf is she wearing. They look like balloons🤣

Inyournewdress · 10/01/2023 00:47

I haven’t looked at anything other than the baby/younger child sections for a while but after clicking on one of the links here I saw the ‘women’s dresses’ category and I wouldn’t have recognised it as Boden at all. It’s nothing like it used to be! I would say the brand is on borrowed time unless they can turn that around fast, which is a shame because the kids section is still ok though not quite what it used to be.

Farawayfromhere · 11/01/2023 18:48

New collection out today. It’s just more of the same stuff, and there are very few things that I would buy. I think they’re actually aiming to go for an & Other Stories mixed with Sezane look but are still achieving the same Per Una on hallucinogens look.

Such a shame!

RockaLock · 11/01/2023 19:15

There's a lot of navy...

And plenty of awful patterns again.

And definitely overtures of Per Una!

Usually there are a couple of things I am tempted by, but I didn't see anything I liked enough to buy this time around.
