How much effort does it require you to get ready each day ?

as in get ready for the day (not going out out).

For me, it takes around 30 minutes just to get my hair looking half decent and throw a little bit of make up on (minimal). For that to happen, I have to drag the hair dryer and straighteners out (which is a faff due to the awkward location of mirror and sockets, they are not near each other and I have to use an extension lead which I also have to drag out then put away again) as I wet my hair to style it. Its just such an effort. I don't do it often and I usually look like I've just got out of bed. I want to change that but it's just sooooo much effort.

It also seems lately that my hair will no longer sit how I want it to/how it used to. Don't understand why as I have not had it cut or styled differently. This means it takes me longer to faff around trying to get my hair as I like it to be.

If I then go to the gym or it's wet/muggy/damp/foggy outside my hair gets ruined and I have to start over again with the styling.

Such an effort just to look half decent.

About the same. My hair is short though so I just finger it dry. Makes a massive difference. My routine is:

Quick shower and wash face and hair.
Moisturise. Make bed whilst cream is sinking in.
Makeup- foundation, setting powder, eyes and lips.
Dress (generally quite casually).
Finger dry hair.
Spritz perfume.

Total: 30 or 40 mins incl drying/faffing about with hair.

I used to do my nails daily but don't bother since Covid.

Sounds hard work. Can you wear a hat? Sorry that’s what I do but I’m low maintenance. Love make up and a bit of glam as much as anyone , but don’t owe anyone pretty! If I’m going to the gym no one is going to see me looking flawless afterwards, I just bang my hair in a bobble.
i don’t wash it everyday , when if I shower in the gym I just wear a cap . I look a bit wild but I’m strong and healthy and my clothes are clean but unimaginative and easy care.

thunderstruckk · 06/01/2023 11:05

About 15 minutes - wash face, brush hair (sleep in a bonnet so it isn't frizzy or particularly knotted), one coat of mascara and a bit of concealer. Done! If I'm actually going somewhere fancy, then maybe 30-45 minutes if I'm showering and doing hair from fresh.

Dystopiawarming · 06/01/2023 11:07

When I actually get ready properly it takes ages.
Don't do that very much though, I WFH and look like a bag lady on the school runs. Going to be back in an in person role soon and not looking forward to it! I'm not sure I have the skills to get properly presentable anymore !

LaLuz7 · 06/01/2023 11:07

20 minutes to shower and dry hair (no styling cause mine is fine and straight and styling never holds anyway). But I only wash my hair once every 3 days. So most days showering takes me 5 minutes.

10 minutes for minimal makeup (eyebrows, full eye makeup, nothing else)

An eternity to decide what to wear to work

5 minutes to actually get dressed

Kanaloa · 06/01/2023 11:19

How much effort is it to ‘drag out’ the hairdryer and straighteners? If it’s such an ordeal why don’t you consider moving them to another place?

It takes me about twenty/thirty minutes usually. Shower, dressed, hair. I have a short haircut which is easy to sort out.

Season0fTheWitch · 06/01/2023 11:31

Before school I wash my face, brush hair, get dressed (about 10 minutes tops), put basic makeup on and jewellery (another 10 minutes)- usually while DDs are eating breakfast or if I sit down to BF youngest DD. After school and nursery run via starbucks I come back home and put more makeup on and do my hair. Sometimes change my outfit if I'm going out. That's usually when youngest DD naps so I get a good half hour+ and take my time.

Twice a week youngest DD goes to SIL and I go to the gym after the school run, so then when I'm home I take up to 2 hours to get ready

NancyJoan · 06/01/2023 11:42

I shower, get dressed and put make-up on in 20 mins. I have v short hair, so no lengthy blowdrying/styling.

When are you hauling dryer/straighteners and extension lead out each time? Put them somewhere they can stay out, move the mirror if you need to.

Moonpies · 06/01/2023 13:18

When I WFH about 15 mins. I take shower in the evening and most of the time in the morning takes skincare (foreo bear , serums). 30 mins if I'm going to office (extra time for proper makeup and clothes).

Can you do something else with your hair that doesn't require all the faff at least some days?

PeachyMama · 06/01/2023 13:24

As a mum to a 4 month old - about 30 seconds to chuck some clothes on 😂 pre baby about 45 minutes, 20 mins on make up and remainder on shower, hair and choosing outfit

whataboutsecondbreakfast · 06/01/2023 13:25

About 10 minutes.

VladmirsPoutine · 06/01/2023 13:30

About an hour but this also includes a coffee, browsing the news. But I'm a makeup junkie so can happily get carried away doing my base and so forth. That's to go to work - on days I'm at home probably the 10mins it takes to brush teeth and change clothes.

NegroniLover · 06/01/2023 13:45

Depends on the day. I wash my hair every second day (but will stretch this if not going out or seeing anyone other than dh / dc)
So first morning it's about a 10min shower as I wash & condition my hair & wash body in the shower. Get out & dry & then wrap hair in the towel. Wash face at the sink & put on deodorant. Fold up foot towel & hang on shower door & scoop.up laundry.
Go back to the bedroom & moisturise face & most mornings put body lotion on arms & legs & neck as skin gets dry

Straighten the bed while this is sinking in. Then sit on the edge of the bed & blow dry my hair. I brush it out first & then rough dry it to get all the heavy wet out before using the brush again. I have thick enough shoulder length straight hair.
Once hair is dry I use the straightener to smooth the top layer of hair- could achieve this with more careful drying but don't have time on week mornings.

Once hair is done I move the long mirror to the window. I get dressed & put on makeup. Liquid foundation with a brush, setting powder, bronzer powder & a cream blusher (all bobbi brown at the moment) then eyeshadow, gel eyeliner on top lids & mascara. Lip balm / gel. Finally jewellery & spritz perfume & gran coat & bag & go.
This takes me about 35 - 40mins.
Every other day takes less as I don't wash my hair

QueefofSheena · 06/01/2023 13:51

Not long, maybe ten minutes if you don’t include the shower. I wear wigs most of the time now and the amount of time it saves is insane. I started as I had hair loss through chemo but now it’s very thin and patchy so it needs a lot of work to cover that. I just don’t bother and I’m quite brazen about having mid length one day and long the next 😁

VladmirsPoutine · 06/01/2023 14:19

@QueefofSheena I wear wigs too but have found this can often take up more time because you need to style it so it sits well. The good thing with winter was I could often just pop on a hat too but now I'm back to having to style it properly it really does eat up time in my morning routine.

hamstersarse · 06/01/2023 14:21

About 45 mins

Shower, hair wash, dry, straighten, make up and dressed

I can do it in 35 at a push, but I do this literally every single day

Seems ridiculous when I see what others do

And I work from home for the most part!

I sympathise re hairdryer, straighteners etc, we have a very small bedroom and they are in the way wherever you leave them and only one plug near the mirror so they have to be put away and take turns with the socket. Nowhere else to put them either, no spare room. I normally let mine dry naturally and wear it up on non-wash days. It is quite liberating to not bother with the drying and straightening.

EspeciallyDetermined · 06/01/2023 14:46

Sorry, chopped off my post there, the rest takes about 20 mins. Clothes out the night before, also any jewellery but I sleep in rings and sleeper earrings so not essential. Shower, contact lenses, teeth takes 15 nins. Moisturise, SPF, mininmal make up take about 5 mins. Dress 5 mins, bag packed the night before so just packed lunch out of fridge (also made the night before), shoes and coat to be ready to go.

Suzie0003 · 06/01/2023 14:53

10 mins maybe
Quick wash, moisturise face then apply mascara and lip balm, neaten eyebrows with clear mascara.
I wash and blowdry my hair every 3 days in the evening which takes much longer

Ivyy · 06/01/2023 15:06

Feeling envious of you lucky ladies who don't need to spend ages covering up spots and melasma / sun damage, takes me ages and can't face people seeing me without concealer and foundation Confused

Ivyy · 06/01/2023 15:06

Blush I mean

Itsonlyagame · 06/01/2023 15:08

10 mins including shower. My hair is pixie short and doesn't need blowdried and I don't really wear make up. If I am going out it would take me 15 mins, including makeup and a bit more hair styling effort.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 06/01/2023 15:09

Shower, dressed, make up, dry my hair with products and brushes, nit just a blast with a drier- 45 mins.

arethereanyleftatall · 06/01/2023 15:13

Including a shit, 5 minutes.
Hair brushed and in pony; face washed and moisturised, teeth cleaned.
