How much effort does it require you to get ready each day ?

potatoesalad · 06/01/2023 10:57

as in get ready for the day (not going out out).

For me, it takes around 30 minutes just to get my hair looking half decent and throw a little bit of make up on (minimal). For that to happen, I have to drag the hair dryer and straighteners out (which is a faff due to the awkward location of mirror and sockets, they are not near each other and I have to use an extension lead which I also have to drag out then put away again) as I wet my hair to style it. Its just such an effort. I don't do it often and I usually look like I've just got out of bed. I want to change that but it's just sooooo much effort.

It also seems lately that my hair will no longer sit how I want it to/how it used to. Don't understand why as I have not had it cut or styled differently. This means it takes me longer to faff around trying to get my hair as I like it to be.

If I then go to the gym or it's wet/muggy/damp/foggy outside my hair gets ruined and I have to start over again with the styling.

Such an effort just to look half decent.

Lots of time to look half decent is me as well and it's very tedious. I use so many products. Packing is a nightmare. Whilst I understand how I'm being manipulated and don't have to do any more than basic hygiene, I don't feel good when my make up is half done or my hair isn't styled and the effort makes a massive difference. I get asked if I'm feeling OK when I don't bother. I don't want to look like I'm off work sick every day.

WhatDoYouWantNow · 06/01/2023 15:26

About 40 minutes. Shower, dress, full face of make-up, hair blow-dried. If I don't wash my hair, it's about 25 minutes

QuietYou · 06/01/2023 15:40

Not long. Teeth, shower, wash face and moisturise, deodorant, get dressed, perfume. I wash my hair every other day, since I've had the dyson hair dryer it only takes about 10-15 mins to dry and I only need to put the straighteners on the front bits to shape them. I haven't worn make up daily for years now.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 06/01/2023 15:09

Shower, dressed, make up, dry my hair with products and brushes, nit just a blast with a drier- 45 mins.

Snap! And I don't even wash my face, I use wipes

I've just realized I may be a slob

UsingChangeofName · 06/01/2023 16:08

10mins or so from pillow to front door if I didn't have breakfast.

Another who doesn't understand why you are "dragging out" and then putting away hair dryers, straighteners and extn cable every time Confused
Why not just leave them out ? Rearrange things so they are just 'to hand' if you feel you need to use them every day.

Outtasteamandluck · 06/01/2023 16:16

45-60 minutes daily.

Shower / wash hair (every day) / skin care / make up / dry & straighten hair

ripandhishorse · 06/01/2023 16:46

I am up and out the door in 50 minutes. Shower, hair (every other day) and make up. Breakfasts made and eaten, dishwasher on. Packed lunch made for the DC.

LBB2020 · 06/01/2023 17:34

To get myself ready on a weekday morning takes me around 30-40 minutes (shower, daily hair wash, dry and run straighteners over, quick minimal makeup, get dressed and make beds x3). Then another 45 mins to get DC breakfast, dressed, packed lunch made, I then breastfed the toddler while having a quick coffee before rushing out of the door. On the weekends when DH is around I take my time and have a little pamper session (face mask, hair mask, body scrub etc)

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 06/01/2023 21:14

I can be out the door from bed in 40 minutes if I go hell for leather, but usually allocate an hour:

feed cat and let her out
shower/wash hair
skincare
makeup
get dressed - always sort out clothes the night before
dry/straighten hair
make bed - although if DP is WFH he will most likely still be in bed and will do it when he gets up
eat breakfast
brush teeth
get cat in
lipstick on
GO

DelurkingAJ · 06/01/2023 21:19

If it’s just me…15 minutes tops. Bath or shower night before so loo, brush teeth, brush hair, wash face, moisturise, put on clothing.

threekiltsandacardy · 06/01/2023 21:21

40mins for me from rolling out of bed to jumping in the car. Shower, dry hair and style, dressed then eyeliner and mascara = job done. It's only me and DH at home now as kids have left home, no pets so no interruptions or distractions anymore 😂

If it's such effort then set your room/mirror up so that your hairdryer and straighteners are accessible and easy to reach. Have a box or drawer to pop them in afterwards so it's tidy. You have control over it so make it work for you.

Make it easy and it will be.

Cuppasoupmonster · 06/01/2023 21:23

Depends, if ive showered the night before (optimum scenario) then 15 minutes - just a bit of foundation on my nose because of large pores, curl my eyelashes and a few strokes of mascara. I tint my eyebrows every 3 weeks so just use the brush bit of an eyebrow pencil to comb them. Luckily my hair is quite thick and highlighted so doesn’t look flat or greasy often, it’s the sort of hair you can throw up in a messy bun. Then brush teeth, dress, deodorant and a spritz of perfume. 15 minutes tops?

If I haven’t showered then maybe 40.

banivani · 07/01/2023 14:29

If I don’t have to wash my hair, ten-fifteen minutes. Do I look amazing? No, but I’ll do. Quick shower (no body lotion), deodorant, face moisturised, quick eye pencil along upper lashes, bb cream, swipe of mascara, swipe of eyebrow thingie, brush hair, put on clothes, brush teeth.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 07/01/2023 15:03

Hair clean from the night before if I've got an early start (have a silk pillowcase, so it's not ratty), if not, bathroom visit, brush teeth 3m, 5m shower for wash, Miracle Water 8s, conditioner, sit on bed, get hairdryer from top of dressing table (already plugged in), switch on, dry in under five minutes, quick application of emollient to legs, arms and neck.

Clothes already out night before - most time is spent getting tights on, then dress over head - maybe 3 minutes?

Coffee 7-10m.

Then bit of moisturiser, eyeshadow, mascara, lipgloss (kept in handbag and applied at mirror by front door - also perfect for last minute check I'm not taking half the cat to work with me), lunchbox in bag, shoes on, coat & scarf on, phone and bag, work keys/fob/pass off their hook and attached to bag by carabiner, out the door. 7m?

Get into work, hang up coat, go and put coffee on, quick brush of hair in ladies', if looking particularly tired, slight dab of pink under eyes/cheekbones from compact that also lives in my bag. Retreat to desk with bucket of coffee and log on.

Seems to work pretty well for around 25-30 mins including coffee after emerging from my sleep deprived pit. The only thing that buggers me up is when my hair is freshly dried and I get caught in drizzle on the way to work, as it then goes poufffff. I've started keeping a scrunchie or hairclip in my bag in case that happens.

On a fuck I'm running late day, I can be dressed, hair clipped back and out in 7m, then the other stuff happens when I'm at work whilst the coffee's brewing.

The main things that make it possible are

  1. Wearing dresses. Seriously, they are an absolute timesaver.
  2. Putting everything out the night before.
  3. Everything having a place - the clothes, keys, makeup, a full length mirror by the front door, shoes - I never have to think where anything is, it's just there, right where I need it.
  4. Not going in full warpaint like an Apprentice candidate.
DoNutSweatTheSmallStuff · 07/01/2023 15:10

About 45-60 minutes for shower, hair, make-up, get dressed.

Seems a bit much.
I wish I could take less time as sometimes I can't be bothered and would rather have an extra half hour in bed but I'm one of these people that can't leave the house without make up... 😏

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 07/01/2023 15:18

Jeez, you people are quick. Takes me the best part of an hour.

5 minutes shower, hair wash. 15mins blow dry. On the rare occasions it doesn't need a wash (am a proper greaser) I still need to use dry shampoo and spend a few minutes blowdrying the dry hair to get rid of behead. I need to get a fringe cut back in so I can wear my hair up, but all the hairdressers I've been to in the last couple of years seem nervous about making big changes and just do a wafty side fringe thing.

This a big one - I am hairy AF, and need to spend a good 10 minutes tweezing my chin each morning. I tweeze at night as well and there are still loads of the wee fuckers sprouting by morning. I have looked at alternative hair removal techniques and don't get on with them, so here we are. 10 minutes skin care and light make up.

Then a few minutes staring vacantly into the wardrobe, 5 minutes ironing, and throwing it all on.

And even after all this I still only look basic work appropriate, rather than smart or glam. Throw in doing a few bits and bobs with the kids and pets and it's probably 1hr 15 from alarm going off to shutting the front door behind me.

MintyPrincess · 07/01/2023 15:30

15 min make up routine

Primer
Foundation
Setting powder
Eyeshadow
Eyeliner
Mascara.

Well, even you polish a turd for an hour, it's still a turd. So there's no point in spending that much time on my face when it could be better spent sleeping.

QueenMabs · 08/01/2023 20:14

40 mins - shower hair (wash ad dry) make up (minimal) dressing. Every single bloody day.

I often wonder if everyone spends this long.

Some aspects are quicker if I'm not at work and just staying home eg dressing (joggers) as no make up

@NeverDropYourMooncup you can't polish a turd but you can roll it in glitter.

Squishedstormtrooper · 08/01/2023 20:15

15 minutes tops. Showered the night before and hair straightened (otherwise it’s a bush). Clothes out ready, breakfast and lunch in a bag in the fridge ready. Quick once over with the straighteners, eyeliner and mascara. Dressed and out. I commute so every 5 minutes I’m late is another 10 in traffic and I really value sleep.

What hair type do you have? Mine is fine and very oily, I normally have to wash it every day.
I'm thinking of investing in a silk pillowcase. How do you wash it? Is it 100% silk?
Apologies for all of the questions!

ScarlettDarling · 08/01/2023 20:25

I could never wash my hair in a morning. It’s very high maintenance and takes ages to dry and then I need straighteners to look just respectable. It takes me an hour to get up, use bathroom, have breakfast, do make and get dressed. Wish I could speed it up, I’m sick of getting up at 6.

JaceLancs · 08/01/2023 20:59

I am very low maintenance and love my bed
clean teeth, quick wash, deodorant, perfume comb hair and get dressed takes 10 minutes
I choose clothes night before and don’t wear make up so that helps
if my hair isn’t how I would like it I must spray it, add curling cream, scrunch and go - maybe another 2 minutes
I prefer to have a shower or bath and wash my hair in an evening

sparkiesparkle · 09/01/2023 20:58

I don't style my hair really, might spritz the ends with something, or even just apply a little oil to control frizz. I may use dry shampoo. I just apply a bit of concealer, some mascara, comb my brows through and a bit of lip balm. I'm usually walking and training dogs though for. OST of the day. If I need to loom smarter I use a re on blow dry brush and apply make up properly which takes half an hour or so.

NameIsBryceQuinlan · 09/01/2023 21:16

Absolutely minimal I'd say, can get ready in 5 mins. Brush teeth, put vit c on face, put Spf on face, put cc cream on face, and a lip balm. Hair in a bun or down. It's past my waist.

Can you change your hair style so it's faster? Is your hair wavy?
