Has anyone used them? What do you think of them?

I'm in need of a full wardrobe overhaul, I don't know where to shop anymore as everywhere looks the same/doesn't suit my figure. I'm considering using this site but open to other ways round this if there are alternatives that anyone can suggest?

OP posts:
theswoot · 28/12/2022 12:44

I am at the upper end of their sizing and also not sure that they do ethical fashion so probably wouldn’t try it myself, but a colleague has used it and she’s a fan and she’s had some lovely pieces.

Jellybean2023 · 28/12/2022 12:57

Not worth it, the ads made it look great and what I was sent was basic, overpriced tat you could find yourself on the high street. I'd suggest following some stylists you like on instagram to get inspiration. I like Beth Bartram (I think that's her name), that kind of thing can give inspiration.

astronewt · 28/12/2022 13:01

If you have really lost your way with what's current and/or what suits your shape, it can be good at giving you a reboot. But for anyone with any existing fashion sense, it's pretty shit and very limited.

Claudia84 · 28/12/2022 13:05

I used it a few years ago. First time kept the whole box, and then the next few times kept a few bits.
You have to be very clear on what you want and give decent feedback. It's not overpriced tat it tends to be from brands that you could buy direct from. But the clothes will not be 'this season's'
I discovered some new brands that I hadn't heard of before (scotch and soda, American vintage, Yas) and it definitely made me try things that I wouldn't normally buy online. I think now you can see what you are getting ahead of them sending it which I don't like - some things you need to force yourself to try on!
All in all it's good for a try out if you're in a bit of a rut but probably not something for long term. My mum still gets a box every 6 months I think.

Jumbojem · 28/12/2022 13:06

I've not used it but why not try a personal shopper instead? These can be real life or virtual, there was one on here recently who does it and she did a lovely AMA.
I follow Emily Innes in Instagram and she does online consultations about what colours and clothes suit your colouring/body shape.
Think these kind of more personal options might help you find your way more than stitch fix? The only people I know who profess to love it are trying to push a referral code so they get money off their own shop.

Passmethecrisps · 28/12/2022 13:09

I ordered one box about a year ago and every single item was hideous. The quality of the material was awful and the styling was really bad. One item was a sort of waffle material pink checked shirt. It was absolutely dreadful and no one would look good it in. I found it hard to get past this as the point was to upgrade and update my wardrobe. Every item was from their own made up brand as well and from the quality I felt hugely overpriced

IET · 28/12/2022 13:11

I have done it a few times and really don't rate their clothes. I got a lot of their "own brand" stuff, like Editor's Cut etc. Some of it fell apart after one wash.

I also find the sizing a bit small on things like their jeans. They did listen to me when I requested certain things so that is the upside. I didn't like that they sent me all black, grey and navy. This was in June or July as well! I was after summer things.

I've also done Lookiero and found their clothes a bit nicer with fewer own brand bits which I preferred. However, they didn't listen to me and just sent stuff I didn't want.

All in all I just think shopping for myself

MrsElm · 28/12/2022 13:15

I tried it and had a few nice things, but no variety, they didn't listen to me, and always lots of polyester.

I think if you want a style overhaul it would be more beneficial to book a session with a personal shopper at John Lewis. Then you can get an idea of how things look straight away.

FestivePinkFairy · 28/12/2022 13:15

I had a couple of boxes earlier this year. I wasn't impressed to be honest. Most of the stuff was poor quality material and overpriced. I think I kept one jumper but that was something I could have easily bought online myself if I'd wanted.

PoppyEyebright · 28/12/2022 13:18

I've had about 4 boxes over the past year and been pretty pleased - keeping most of the items. Depends on your budget and I agree with others that you need to be really definitive about styles and giving feedback.

Also had items not from the high street in mine, so have had a slightly different experience to some other posters.

AriettyHomily · 28/12/2022 13:19

I like it. I get a box every couple of months. Sometimes I buy the whole box, sometimes nothing. The most recent one I have kept a sugarhill jumper, a French connection top, and editors cut jeans. I'm an 18, no issues with sizing.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 28/12/2022 13:49

I'm a 16/18 and sounds like we got a very similar box!

OP I've probably had 10 boxes total, its either been great or totally wrong. However its expensive if you are the kind of person who shops sales or deals. I actually think a personal shopper session would be better, John Lewis is supposed to be good.

TheYummyPatler · 28/12/2022 13:52

I got some quite nice stuff but the quality is really hit and miss.

museumum · 28/12/2022 13:54

I like it but then I HATE clothes shopping. You need to give them lots to work with - going through the “style shuffle” games and giving feedback and instructions but I’ve usually kept 3 of 5 items. I tend to get a box each spring and autumn for a bit of a wardrobe refresh. Before stitch fix I was mostly wearing 15yr old stuff that was properly tatty.

SomeChickensAreJustTooBig · 28/12/2022 14:03

There have been lots of threads about Stitchfix and people have very different experiences and views of this. I’ve found it really fun and useful as a supplement to my wardrobe. There is also Lookierio which offers a similar service, I’ve tried them and they’re okay.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 28/12/2022 14:05

I tried it and it wasn't great. The service and packaging was good but the clothes were horrid. Very synthetic and nothing felt nicely made.

ChaliceinWonderland · 28/12/2022 14:08

I disagree, I love stitch fix, such a treat. I am a size 12 14 if you are specififc about what you dont want it can be good. I got a whole new work wardrobe without having to leave the housee.....

MerlinsButler · 28/12/2022 19:53

I get Stitchfix boxes. Usually every couple of months. It's good for making me try things I wouldn't usually look at. When you set your profile the budget that you set for each type of clothing will have a big impact on what brands you are sent.

Also yes to PP that you need to give feedback and do the style shuffle games as that helps the algorithm / stylist pick things that will fit your brief.

You can stop and start them as and when you like. So no commitment needed.

glamourousindierockandroll · 28/12/2022 20:01

I've kept a couple of things but you've got to be quite firm. Last time, I was very explicit that I wanted to try a wide selection of styles of jeans and when they emailed me the preview it was a mixture of all sorts. I replied saying I wasn't satisfied and they did change it.

In hindsight they were probably trying to stick to a budget but I'm not sure what the point of them is if you feel like you're just being sent random shite.

modgepodge · 28/12/2022 20:09

I’ve been using them about 18 months, was monthly but cut back to every 2-3 months as I didn’t need (and couldn’t afford!) that many clothes.

initially I really liked it, I have got some lovely things and things i wouldn’t have bothered trying on in the shop, which was sort of the point for me. Recently though I’ve been disappointed, everything has been really expensive and/or not what I need (they sent me the third bottle green jumper in a year this month…one only needs so many bottle green jumpers!!) I didn’t buy anything and was slightly ranty in my feedback, and to be fair they emailed me to apologise and clarify. I’ll give it one more shot.

I detest clothes shopping and lack imagination so it suits me. But it works out quite expensive in my opinion. Some of it is brands I would buy from anyway and good quality (joules, Boden), some of it I haven’t heard of (which is fine, I’m not label obsessed) and is definitely worse quality but not much cheaper.

Motorina · 30/12/2022 12:06

So far, so not impressed. I got one box with a referral voucher, and it was fine. Got a dress I really liked, so that was a win, and sent the rest back. Ordered anotehr box. It's in the post now, and they've sent me things I very firmly rejected in the preview, plus totally ignored my feedback/requests. I asked for wide legged cord trousers - they've sent ponte skinny fit trousers in an unpleasant colour, which won't work for my look or lifestyle. My assumption is they don't have much choice, so I'm getting what they have, but it's all going to be sent back with the £10 styling fee wasted.

KimmySchmitt · 30/12/2022 12:29

I used this during/just after lockdown, when it was difficult to go shopping and all the fitting rooms were still closed (in case you caught covid from trying on a jumper...). It meant I could shop and try things on without having to order and return from multiple sites and was quite good fun at a time when there was nothing else going on. I wouldn't use it now things are back to normal.

The quality was okay, I kept a few things from their own E&T brand and they've washed fine, still look decent and that's been a couple of years. I also kept a few things I wouldn't normally have tried (wide-legged linen jumpsuit back in 2020 when I was wedded to my skinnies), but I did end up keeping a couple of quite expensive items which I have never once worn I'm ashamed to say. It's worth trying a box or two if you can find a discount code, but the stuff I was sent didn't live up to the adverts. I do think they probably work out of a warehouse so if they don't have much in your size/style, you'll get what they can give you.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 30/12/2022 13:42

I used them for a couple of years but then stopped. I quite often was returning everything, either they weren't me at all, or they were so spot on that I already had something very similar in my wardrobe.

LadyPoison · 30/12/2022 13:48

I had two boxes from them.

The first included a colour I had stipulated I hated. The second was better in terms of colour but nothing really fitted and the overall style was somewhat dull and frumpy.

Over priced too - I was able to find one of the dresses on the net for less than half the price they wanted.

AWaferThinMint · 30/12/2022 13:55

I used them three times. Once loved everything and on budget.

Once had a couple of items I wasn't sure of and sent back

Third time ignored me completely.

I think service has gone rapidly downhill as they've grown. Very expensive for a bad service.
