Something to brighten my skin

Chocolateismyfavourite · 27/12/2022 20:33

I finished chemo a few weeks ago, and i have a good skin care routine, very happy with the products I use. However I need something to give me a bit of a glow - not oils or serums etc as already use them- I don't wear alot of make up at all, maybe some tinted moisturiser occasionally, wondered if anyone could recommend something to brighten me up a little ! Thanks in advance.

I swear by Ebrorian CC in clair. It's my skin but brighter!

Hope you're feeling well, OP.

I have been drinking alot, way more than normal as it helps clear out the chemo from my body, also due to the horrid taste I was having in my mouth I ate alot of citrus as was the only thing that helped there. Thanks for the suggestion though 🙂

Second Erborian cc cream. I know you said no serums but I also really rate True Rosehip and Rosemary oil - I use at night and it makes a difference am.

Notonyournellykelly · 27/12/2022 21:13

I find a good face scrub helps wake my skin up a bit. I make my own out of olive oil, tea tree oil, salt and brown sugar. Slap it on and scrub gently for 90 secs.

If you want a glow by using make up, try a highlighter. Either powder or cream. I like the powder

Bodyshop vitamin C skin reviver is amazing!

This is extremely good and makes a real difference in 3 minutes.

I would go very gently atm. You’ve got a lot on and the bloody anaesthetic and recovery to deal with too. Obviously you need the usual rest and and nurturing with a healthy diet rich in vitamins and minerals. Pretty sure nothing new to you.

Meanwhile when it comes to skincare, I’d tread carefully with actives in case of actives. I’d add in something with lots of hydration like hyaluronic acid and nothing stronger than panthenol or niacinamide. (Niacinamide serum from Glow Recipe is lovely. The Ordinary one has zinc and is drying.) I would also recommend ceramides for healing. There are MUCH better and enjoyable products than Cerave, such as Curel (Japanese sensitive skin range now available at Boots. Really lovely and healing. I can personally vouch for their products. They’re light-textured and scent-free.)

Erborian mentioned above is a lovely BB cream. Can’t go wrong.

Have you tried an exfoliant after cleansing? Pixi glow tonic is lovely!

Chocolateismyfavourite · 27/12/2022 21:26

Thanks so much for all the suggestions - really appreciate them.

Nars radiant creamy concealer under the eyes does wonders.
You could also try a tinted moisturizer - YSL Nu and the Laurie Mercier one are amazing. Light coverage, but two men commented on how glowy my skin looked. I use it on top of moisturizer.

Wishing you a good health!

I wouldn’t use an exfoliant at the moment. You need to baby yourself for a long time.
I think you misunderstood my advice about serums. Serums are absolutely okay if they are nurturing and nourishing. The actives must be gentle and non-irritating. Over-stimulating your poor skin atm could lead to rashes and/or breakouts as well as extra thinning, etc. When you’re already feeling unwell, they could have the opposite of the desired effect.

teaandcake22 · 29/12/2022 05:20

I would also recommend an exfoliater, Clarins do a lovely one with oil. They also have a great face oil products which I use every few days. I then use their Beauty Flash Balm. I never understood it until I had children; I use this either by itself or under makeup. The Trinny London BFF eye is also good as a concealer around the eye area. Or the YSL Touché Eclat. Good luck for Friday and wishing you good health.

teaandcake22 · 29/12/2022 05:24

A couple of other ideas for you:
Clarins have a great range of radiance foundations which are really light.

Also the Chanel Healthy Glow sheer powder is great either over foundation or just by itself.
Lastly Charlotte Tilbury have a foundation called Hollywood flawless filter. I find it's a bit much all over but a little on my cheekbones works really well. X

Thank you for all the advice and suggestions, I appreciate them all, and the good wishes.

Just to clarify, I'm exfoliating twice a week with a small grain exfoliator, it's not to harsh on my skin. A vitamin c serum. And my skin products are by Jenny love, Defiant beauty - beauty despite cancer, so, I know they are very gentle and good for my skin right now.

I have also ordered the erborian cc cream as recommended for now.

Beauty professional here.
I use Bobbi Brown Highlighting powder. Pink glow. I have RA so can look a bit flat if I have been on the steroids. I put it above my cream blusher (hourglass) and on my browbone. It is a good colour not gold which I am too old(57) to wear. I also recommend the Huda Beauty lipsticks, they are very long lasting.

Hope your op goes well. I had chemo and the same op a few years ago.

I'd also say take it easy but also understand it's nice to start feeling good about your appearance again. Is second all the body shop vit c range. Daffodil
