I have some s&b type goals for next year and am trying to do it on a bit of a budget...

I'm turning 40 next year and want to be looking and feeling a bit better by then

  1. I'm doing a long stint of no booze after new year and I assume I will be GLOWING after this 😂 (obviously this is free of charge and may actually save me some money)

  2. I am going to see an orthodontist about my overcrowded teeth

  3. I'm going to try and stay on top of my beauty bits and pieces; skincare, nails, hair removal etc

  4. Finally, I'm going to join the (inexpensive) gym near me (and actually go)

@FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee I've just bought these from La redoute on a 40% off offer, and they're lovely- buttery soft leather, no wearing in needed

www.laredoute.co.uk/ppdp/prod-350233413.aspx

anon2022anon · 17/12/2022 15:23

My goals are:
Exercise regularly. Even if I don't lose weight it helps my shape.
Lose weight 😂
Mole removal- I've got 3 moles on my face, that every under 5 I meet points out. Finally contacted a few clinics for removal, just got to get my guts together now.
Start making a regular effort. I have nice clothes. I'm allowed to wear them just for me, even on days I feel crap.

SurpriseSparDay · 17/12/2022 16:03

Great idea for a thread!

Hmm … Plans … I have great going out clothes, but too often find myself ‘borrowing’ them to lounge on the sofa because I rarely have enough ‘home’ clothes. Have spent all year trying to commit to a perfect source for hoodies and flannel trousers. Will probably invest in some things from Community Clothing in the new year.

Also - I almost never have the right footwear. Must try harder to buy elegant things to convert day clothes for glamorous evenings.

I pretty much gave up on make up (except for zoom calls) and perfume over lockdowns. So everything needs replenishing and revitalising.

Aureliaaa · 17/12/2022 16:17

I want to stick to a health and beauty routine. I know what I need to do and I have the products needed I just need to be disciplined and consistent with using them including weekly and monthly treatments.
I want to resume my Lumea hair removal.
I want to use up what I have from products and 'shopping my closet' instead of buying more stuff.
I want to do a big declutter, though this is not just for my clothes and shoes more of a whole house thing!
I intend to be selfish with my sleep (older DC so can do this) but they tend to want to stay up and chat late or watch something late which is LOVELY family time but I'm zonked out by 8pm some days.

My priority is health and wellness this year. I want good skin without foundation or concealer, thicker hair (better diet, less stress) and saving money by using up what I have.

I really like them but what would you wear them with?

I just can't get the boots and jeans look right. I don't know if it's because I'm short so I look dumpy.

anon2022anon · 17/12/2022 16:43

@FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee well today I've worn them with a midi dress, tights and cardi, and yesterday I wore them with full length mom jeans and a knitted jumper. I'm honestly going to hammer these boots, and quite possibly might buy more to have a pair for smart when they're reduced again

This thread looks a great read (with a cuppa and a sleeping baby... Wishful thinking 😅). What items have you purchased so far and where from?

I've bought gold stud earings, 2 silk blouses from boden and I have my eye on a cashmere jumper. All things that I wouldn't have bought before due to the cost but I'm finding it makes sense to buy one really nice quality item rather than 3-4 cheaper 'that' ll do' items.

SparkyBlue · 17/12/2022 19:48

I've done well with the clothes this year I think I've finally cracked my style (at the age of 46). I think next year is teeth and general health. DH on board with me thankfully so that will make it easier as he's had a bit of a health scare we plan on going to morning yoga together and more walking and being more outdoorsy.

Newlifenewme · 18/12/2022 16:08

I plan to sort myself out this year. I’ve already lost 28lbs and I have a bit more to lose so defo gonna up the exercise and keep eating healthy. I’m also inspired by the thread mentioned above and have made a list of staples I need to add to my wardrobe. Everything is supermarket tat or stuff that’s worn out in there at the moment. I need to start investing in myself, finding my style and working it lol

lindyloo57 · 18/12/2022 18:41

Mines is not to buy anymore makeup until something runs out, and beauty cream and lotions use up all I have before buying more, I have enough in my stach of both to last well into 2024

Ohchristmastreeohchristmastree · 18/12/2022 21:22

I want to get all my hormones at optimal levels. And continue with my fitness, hoping having my hormones in the right place might get me better results from what I do. I’m trying to get stronger and build some muscle, my hormones are getting there, tbh they were pretty poor in the summer, blood work is showing improvement though.

I think my wardrobe is kind of sorted. But probably need some better summer footwear.

I did start last year off by having a basic pamper night once a week. Bath, Epsom salts, shave, waxing, hair mask etc. It went to the wayside towards the end of the year, but I really liked it as a New Year’s resolution, to add something nice to my life instead of taking something away.

Speedmacarons · 18/12/2022 21:30

Stop binge eating junk

Use my bloody Lumea!

userxx · 18/12/2022 21:36

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 16/12/2022 19:02

Microblading. I've wanted it for years now.

Me too.

biedrona · 18/12/2022 22:27

I've got my hyperrealistic brows appointment in Feb, cannot wait.

Pigtailsandall · 19/12/2022 09:55

Great thread.

I found a skincare routine this year which seems to really work for me - so staying on top of that even when tired and unmotivated

Improving my eating - I eat too much junk and a few extra kilos have crept up on me slyly. I think I mainly need to improve my breakfast and snacks - I need to commit to making some overnight oats the night before and fill them with some good stuff, plus exchange biscuits as s snack for a fruit/veggie smoothie. Generally eat more veg.

Buying less but better - This year I kept a wishlist, and although it didn't work out perfectly it really reduced impulse buying and make me consider what to get. I think the more specific you can get, the better. I currently have things like "wool blazer, lined, no polyester, in a classic pattern like houndstooth" and "black v-neck slightly boxy cashmere/wool jumper" I think more specific you can be the better

I'd also like to invest in a few jewellery pieces, funds allowing. I've really gone off jewellery but I'd like to introduce some classic, discreet pieces like simple earrings and a few pendants.

I'd also like to start wearing perfume again! I stopped a few years back when I got pregnant and was breastfeeding, and I think I'd love to find a nice, everyday scent.

LillyLeaf · 19/12/2022 10:01

Looks like I'm not the only one with a Lumea that doesn't use it. This might be my no.1 must do in the new year.

BadShepherd · 19/12/2022 10:02

I’m going to operate a 4 out, 1 in policy and continue to acquire “better” pieces.

Im going to start wearing lipstick daily and build on from there as I have enough make-up to sink the titanic yet rarely wear it.

Blueskies3 · 19/12/2022 10:56

I am going to develop a work 'uniform'.
I am going to exercise more, so I can try and lose a few kilograms.

In the future I want to get laser therapy on my upper lip and bikini area and whiten my teeth.

Ivyy · 19/12/2022 12:53

Is this Thread company the same one pp mentioned a while back (for personal styling / shopping)? I was having a look for it as it sounded good, but if it's the same one they've gone into admin?

QueefofSheena · 19/12/2022 13:14

Another one for sticking to a teeth whitening regime. I’ve lost quite a lot of weight so I want to tone up. We have one of those trainer wheel things got bikes so I’m going to put my bike on it and pedal in the shed while it’s cold 😁

I’ve got wonky boobs following radiotherapy, which shrunk one. I was hoping that losing weight might help even them up but it’s made it worse, so I’d like to get them sorted/hoiked a bit.

NeedWineNow · 19/12/2022 14:11

Such a great thread!

My plan is:

Lose a stone and get to my SW goal weight. I am going on a cruise at the end of April so am aiming to do this by the time we go.

Carry on with my weekly Zumba and ballet classes and also add additional exercise to tone up.

Shop out of my own wardrobe and not automatically buy something new when I have something to go to. I've got stuff in the wardrobe which still has the labels on so I really don't need anything else at present. If I do want to look for anything new look at preloved/charity shops first. I have been doing this recently and have had several good bargains.

Limit wine intake especially when meeting friends. I have the willpower of a gnat and am easily tempted to several 'for the road'. I'm much better off having a gin and slim tonic - I don't get the hangover and upset tummy if I drink gin!

Carry on with hair/eyebrow appointments and also add in regular nails/pedicure. It makes me feel so much better. Similarly use up all beauty products/ make up before buying more.

Last but by no means least, lay off the Aldi fruit and but chocolate.

Claudia84 · 19/12/2022 16:10

Another one for actually using up the rest of the teeth whitening formula (hoping it's still useable)
Focus on having quality in my wardrobe - stop buying clothes made out of plastic.
I've got into a fairly good skin regime with skin and me, and keratin treatments really help my hair but I'm still so lazy with it. It's like I spend the money to look nice and then I roll out of bed and don't bother brushing my hair or drying it when I wash it.

So...in the interest of building good habits I am just going to set a timer for 10 mins each morning and spend that on maintenance. So whether that's drying my hair or putting some makeup on, painting my toe nails, that's what I'm going to do. Ten minutes.

Blenheimprincess · 19/12/2022 16:15

I'm going to do dry January and maybe Feb too, I always feel great for it
I'm going to also low carb / no sugar
I have a personal trainer and I'm going to stop cancelling her
Likewise my counsellor
I'm going to say no more
I am going to book holidays every 5/6 weeks so I get more time off
I'm going to book to see friends whose company I love
I am going to work less
I am going to make sure I have loads to look forward to from January onwards
I will find a new hairdresser and get my roots done
I might get my marionette lines done on my chin as well
Teeth whitening ids a good idea but I'd have to to go the dentist first

Niftythrifter · 19/12/2022 18:29

Keep on with maintaining a weight I am happy at.

Go for a makeup tutorial

Get back to walking

invest in some decent flat shoes, ideally some Mary Janes assuming I can find some

Suzie0003 · 19/12/2022 19:33

Lose the 10lb which I have gained over the last few months from low mood.
Continue going to yoga and pilates.
Regular hair cuts of 6-8 weeks.
Whiten my teeth regularly.
Continue my skincare regime.
Moisturiser, mascara and lipbalm every morning without fail.
Keep on top of waxing and using my lumea.
Make sure I take vitamins and supplements each day.
Drink more water.
