Does anyone wear nightshirts?

LisaLovedUp · 16/12/2022 09:01

I wear nighties- can't stand PJs.

I have 'moved up' this winter from spaghetti-strap summery cotton nighties, to short sleeved T-shirt types. I also have one long sleeved nightie from The White Company.

I am wondering about a nightshirt in jersey/ bamboo.

BUT- I'm wondering what it's like to sleep with a shirt with a collar (even though it lies flat) and the buttons and just how comfortable they are.

I wear the baggy t shirt type.

I don’t wear nightshirts though. Buttons and lack of stretchy fabrics make them uncomfortable.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 16/12/2022 09:26

Bamboo is viscose.

familyissues12345 · 16/12/2022 09:28

Not quite answering your question, but my favourite, most comfy pair of PJs are ones with a shirt top - so collar and buttons

Gwenhwyfar · 16/12/2022 21:12

If you can dress like this at the moment you're being wasteful with heating.

DreamingOfAGreenChristmas · 16/12/2022 21:22

I am currently wearing flannelette nightshirts. The collar and buttons don’t bother me at all.

I wear t-shirt style nightshirts - actual shirt style would probably need ironing.

@Gwenhwyfar i don’t know about OP but I only wear this garment to sleep in, under a big duvet. We’ve had minus six this week and it’s fine with no heating on overnight!

HappiCamper · 16/12/2022 21:30

I wear nightshirts from Yawn. They’re lovely- really comfortable.

CPHB2021 · 16/12/2022 21:34

I have two nighties from If only if. They are pricey and investment pieces but well and ethically made so I feel they'll last an age. They're buttery soft and really pretty (imo) I really want to find a similar but cheaper brand as I wear mine alternatively every few days. Xxx

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 17/12/2022 08:40

@Gwenhwyfar we don’t have the heating on overnight either.

But if people can afford and want it, who are you to say it’s wasteful? It’s their personal choice.

lipstickwoman · 17/12/2022 08:43

I don't like pjs in bed but need sleeves in this weather. I've bought long sleeved nighties without collars because I don't think they would be comfy at all.

Sainsbury's are the best by miles

I love mumsnet, been on here for years (name change all the time) but this what is so depressing about it. No matter how innocent or inoffensive the OP is, there's always a miserable git that has to come along and stick the knife in. 🙄

I went to bed nude last night. I must be a true sinner. Better burn me at the stake.

We have a warm mattress and a high tog duvet and we cuddle. There is only minimal heating in my bedroom to stop our clothes getting moldy.

Do you find this sort of comment wins people over?

I find the cotton stretchy ones twist round me at night so prefer not stretchy - have a few from cyberjammies & love them. Wash really well and as I’m a slacker never iron them ( just hang when out of wash)

I don’t think anyone asked.

mondaytosunday · 17/12/2022 09:41

I wear night t-shirts - no collar or anything. I think yea too much around my neck otherwise. @Gwenhwyfar if I'm not physically in bed I have a huge long woolly cardi over it and the t shirt covers my knees.

DisforDarkChocolate · 17/12/2022 09:44

I got a lovely one in the Seatsalt sale last year, I've been annoyed for 11 months I didn't pick up two.

Great user name though.

I have this on my John Lewis wishlist

@Gwenhwyfar can you expand a little on your thought process? Why is wearing a nightshirt to bed indicative of a person being wasteful with heating? Truly, I’m intrigued.

It means the room is warm obviously if you can have nothing on your legs.

I have a big, thick duvet and a hot water bottle. Still couldn't have bare legs in the middle of winter.

We don’t have the heating on at night. I’ve never worn anything in my legs ever. It makes me feel constricted.

In fact, l always have a leg out on top of the quilt. Even in winter.

fatsocatso · 19/12/2022 21:02

@Gwenhwyfar, are you genuinely incapable of understanding that people have different internal thermostats? In my family, I can be wrapped up in blankets, jumpers and a hot water bottle whilst one of the kids is running around in shortie pjs. It's such a colossal leap to assume what you cannot possibly know. And be nasty and accusing with it. Horrible behaviour.

@Gwenhwyfar
are you incapable of considering that not every person in the world is the same as you?
Crikey! life must be really exhausting for you if you feel the need to berate everyone who makes a marginally different choice to you and morally judge strangers in the internet for their nightwear choices Confused
