This outfit, worth recreating?

I'm drawn to this look, it's very 'me' and I am slim, have the right face/hair that would work with it, but even though I never consider anything too young, maybe it's the skirt pattern, i don't know, reminds me of the 90's (love!) but I am not sure how or where I'd wear that style. It's neither dressy nor practical.
I am late 40's Grin

Now, if I did recreate this kind of look, I wouldn't be justifying Cabbages and Roses prices, sadly. Anything excess I have is spoken for. So I would perhaps try ebay or vintage. I already have a similar jumper..

I don't like midi lengths but do suit mini's. But is this style a bit too odd? I feel stupid asking this as I don't believe in rules, but not sure it's worth the effort.

Have at it MN, insult or adore it, I'm open to ideas!

I'm not sure if you are liking the fair isle/floral combo, or the slouchy over flouncy silhouette. Boden has a fair isle jumper over a flirty skirt, and it looks nice. I think reining in the bagginess of the jumper, and flounce of the sweater makes it a bit more adult and refined, if that makes sense. It's not a look for me, but rock it if it's your thing!

I like it.. different jumper/tights ( and shoes ) nevertheless nice

SnowyPheasants · 13/12/2022 22:23

Some of these comments are priceless Grin although i agree with the positive ones too! I think if I am able to see it both ways, it should stay in my imagination for the time being.
Life is too short for rules, that's for sure! (but agree wholeheartedly with C&R prices, a touch too over the top for me, and I generally don't mind spending now and again).
They have a basic organic cotton floppy tshirt for £95! You can have the same for £25 at Superdry, I promise:)

Just to add, they make a lot of their stuff in very limited runs, hence the prices, so as an artist I kind of get that, it's the only way to make a living tbh.

Looks exactly how I dressed in the early 90's except replace the shoes with doc martens. I say go for it, it's a great outfit but again maybe trainers, Hoffs ideally, god no to biker boots, been a while since they were fashionable 😬

jay55 · 13/12/2022 22:28

It looks like what Julia Sawalha wore when she was in Press Gang.
Not sure I'd want to wear again what I wore in my teens but I did love the look back then.

seven201 · 13/12/2022 22:42

That skirt will blow up in the wind at a really embarrassing time. Speaking from experience. I like the outfit.

SnowyPheasants · 13/12/2022 22:45

oh wow i loved press gang, i know exactly what you mean, i also loved her hair!

MeJane · 13/12/2022 20:53

I don't mind the outfit but she looks like she's put on her teenager's school shoes so she can put the bin out.

Oh @MeJane I am crying with laughter!!

I know exactly what you mean! In fact I squelched through the snow today to put the recycling bin out wearing sliders they were about 20 million sizes too big.

Normally I wear teenage sons school shoes but today he'd actually taken them upstairs.

Sometimes when I'm desperate and have to wear my daughters shoes for the bins, and that's almost ballerina like tiptoe on shoes that are 40 sizes too small.

Well, when I say I'm desperate, it really means I can't be assed to go upstairs and get my own shoes!

I thought it was just me! Thanks MeJane

SnowyPheasants · 13/12/2022 22:56

I thought on mumsnet we'd all have special bin shoes by now.

I spy a hole in the market..

I love it and with the slightly chunky, but not too much, loafers. Though only criticism is that the skirt pattern/colour looks almost unseasonal, either way I don't like that pattern with the jumper.

A plain colour skirt with same jumper, or a different colour jumper. Possibly.

ArabeI · 13/12/2022 23:01

It would also work with longer boots as has been mentioned.

ArabeI · 13/12/2022 23:03

I like the skirt style and length though.

MistyRock · 14/12/2022 06:48

The skirt reminds me of one I coveted in 2008 from Oasis, I ended up buying a cheaper version from Topshop. I quite like the skirt and don't mind the jumper but I really don't like teaming up light colours with black tights.

MistyRock · 14/12/2022 06:49

And my bin shoes are my addidas sliders, I wouldn't wear them now though as it's icy as hell out and I'd probably fall over and kill myself.

Gridhopper · 14/12/2022 07:17

@MeJane @Ban 😂

l thought this was a me-specific phenomenon! My son’s shoes are a whopping 13 so more like skis, I also remember the junior school shoes and the ballet toes shuffle

liarliarshortsonfire · 14/12/2022 07:18

I'm 50 and fat, but I look at these kinds of outfits as I'd love to be able to wear them. Do it op!

Gridhopper · 14/12/2022 07:20

To answer the OP: I think the outfit is ace, I wouldn’t wear it coz I’m too boring but I’d certainly admire it

dooneyousmugelf · 14/12/2022 07:27

I think it's fine. I like it. I don't think anyone would look twice (in a good way- not an unusual outfit)

Doliveira · 14/12/2022 12:41

I would look do that look but with a tartan skirt, or a plain skirt. I wear wrinkles/ looking knackered better if my outfit has a teeny bit of dignity/ gravitas thrown in with the whimsy.

SnowyPheasants · 14/12/2022 13:48

I don't feel as smitten with it today. I think the original photo's are just lovely, and the model has such a classic beauty that the entire thing just works.

Tartan skirt would be lovely with the outfit.

ILoveShula · 14/12/2022 14:01

I wear that look but with a black jumper

Mosaic123 · 14/12/2022 14:16

I was a teen in the late 70s.
In my opinion it would look pretty frumpy, unless you are one of those magically lucky people who look fabulous in anything, even a bin liner.

Not many of them about.

Cuppasoupmonster · 14/12/2022 14:19

YukoandHiro · 13/12/2022 20:49

I wouldn't call this 90s (I was a 90s teen). It's very 2005 twee indie. I wore this sort of look to death in winter in my early 20s.

This, it’s dated and not in a good way.
