Deodorant for vag area/ crotch? (TMI sorry)

I don’t sweat too much anywhere else but find the top of my legs (groin) sweats really bad. I have to wash this area and shower twice a day because of it. The area when it sweats smells like bad B/O (like armpit stank). It’s so wierd because I never get this in my armpits, which would be a more normal and acceptable place for it 🙄… And I’m so self conscious of it. No one has ever said anything about it but I would be mortified if anyone noticed. And I wonder what if people have noticed and are just being polite and not saying anything… The shame … 😳

Does anyone else have this problem? If so can you recommend a deodorant that’s gentle (but effective!) enough for this area?

This happens to me too. Feels worse since covid.

The only thing that helps is the use of talc.

VaccineSticker · 09/12/2022 06:03

Get you vaginal health checked I wound suggest.
keep the area trimmed to help with better air circulation down there.

Namaste6 · 09/12/2022 06:14

I've read about this being a thing, particularly after covid. The advice was to wash the area with a medicated soap (not internally) and to use a medicated talk afterwards, making sure you have dried the area fully first. A check up would be a good idea too as the pp suggested. Thrush?

PermanentTemporary · 09/12/2022 06:17

I do wonder if you might have bacterial vaginosis? I had this and it's not nice but easily treated. It's a difficult time to see a GP but I would get a checkup/swab. If you have a GUM clinic locally I would go to that.

PronounsBaby · 09/12/2022 06:17

Make sure you have breathable layers on around there too. Natural materials.

I would be using less products rather than more, sound prime time for infections and the like - BV, Thrush ect

I don't know what this area is called we call it the leg hinge in my house. As it's sublease to the arm pit, i do use antioerspirant deodorant there. Have you tried that?

Gatekeeper · 09/12/2022 06:27

Use this to wash with and then apply Trust deo cream at night

SallyAnn32 · 09/12/2022 06:28

I have this but it only happens when I really need to go to the toilet TMI sorry! I've tried deodorant before and wouldn't advise it. It only happens occasionally (I've got IBS and often the urge to go is very strong).

I don't have a solution but I am relieved other people experience it too. This problem has been in my Google search history a few times 😬

Yes the leg hinge is a good way of describing it, I always think of it as a leg armpit 🤣

And I think it’s more of a sweating thing than a vaginal issue, I wasn’t sure about applying deodorant with it being so close to the vagina but I guess I could try it

I use a natural spray mineral deodorant. It was a bottle of crystals, you add water. No colour or smell. Bought in Boots a few years ago.

Wagsandclaws · 09/12/2022 15:52

I use femfresh talc to keep it dry and clean and sometimes their intimate spray.

I don't swear particularly badly but if it's hot the talc is made of cornflour so it's very fine. It does a great job.

Ruthietuthie · 09/12/2022 16:20

I would try Lume. It's a deodorant in the form of a cream that you can use anywhere. Designed by dermatologists, so it isn't going to harm anything.
(That's if you have ruled out anything medical, as posters above note. But if it isn't the genitalia, Lume should do the trick).

Terriergrrrrrrrr · 09/12/2022 18:16

A natural rock salt deodorant stick will sort that right out.

WhoppingBigBackside · 09/12/2022 19:38

Don't use talc.

fatshitcrazy · 09/12/2022 19:51

I have this exact issue and find deodorant in the leg crease area, pure cotton knickers - any other material makes it worse for me and if I'm going to the gym or know I'm going to be extra hot I use a panty line along the leg crease sides of knickers

Kissmybaubles · 09/12/2022 21:00

I applied some normal deodorant to my groin crease today, and it worked. It’s the end of the day and my vag doesn’t smell like an armpit 🎉

I like the idea of a natural deodorant, might check out Holland and barret when I’m next in town… I googled lume but looks like it would need shipping from America 🤔

Wild natural deodorant actually advertise that they are good for this stuff. Lots of scents that don't smell deodorant-y too. Their sample sizes are a good shape for the area if you wanted to try them out.

MarmiteCoriander · 09/12/2022 23:37

Another idea could be changing the shape of your underwear. If you wear knickers that have an elastic that goes into the leg hinge/crease- then the rubber/elastic isn't a natural fibre and might make it worse. Maybe try changing to a shorts style made from cotton or silk, which leaves that area free to breath.

MarmiteCoriander · 09/12/2022 23:40

Another thought- speak to your GP. I know botox is used for hyperhydrosis which is excessive sweating under the arms. Maybe there is an option to use the same in that area (usually numbed beforehand though!).

Pineapple41 · 10/12/2022 01:33

Talc is not safe - don’t use it.

Definitely get it checked out at GP/GUM clinic, OP.

DPotter · 10/12/2022 02:13

try changing your soap too
don't use talc of any type

Ruthietuthie · 10/12/2022 02:52

Sorry, I am in the US and hadn't realized that Lume was just a US brand. Is there anything like it in the UK? It's a deoderant that works by killing the bacteria that smell, but it's in the form of a cream so you really can use it anywhere.
Something like that would really work well.

BananaBender · 10/12/2022 02:59

I get this too. It stinks like armpit BO and I sweat so much down there. I’ve tried normal antiperspirant in the leg crease and it helped.

What I’ve found really helps is The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% and Zinc 1% applied down there on external areas. It helps reduce the sweating for me and reduces odour.

I wash with a 2% ketoconazole antifungal shampoo on the external areas. It seems to help too with reducing odour.

I’ve recently switched to bamboo knickers instead of cotton. That’s been helping too with less BO stink.

I for one from a health food shop. Might be worth trying. It’s a rock crystal and lasts.
